All have some genealogical materials; however, the Gates County Public Library, Hertford County Public Library, Lawrence Memorial Library and the Northampton County Public Library have the most extensive collection of materials. Chowan University
The Whitaker Library at Chowan contains 120,000 books and 17,000 periodicals. Of importance to researchers is the McDowell Collection of Archives and Antiquities that contains yearbooks and annuals and the Creech Collection that has Southern Baptist history materials. East Carolina University
The Joyner Library is located on East Fifth Street in Greenville. Their Manuscript Collection and Verona Joyner Langford NC Collection have value to Bertie researchers.

Martin Community College
The college library is located in Building 2 on the main campus in Williamston. The Francis Manning Room in the library has reports and papers primarily on Martin County; however, there is cemetery and family data of interest to Bertie County researchers.
