MRS. JAMES FOSTER DIED LAST TUESDAY.
     Mrs. James Foster died at her home near Mebane Tuesday from the effects of pneumonia and was buried at Long's Chapel cemetery Wednesday afternoon. The funeral was conducted at Long's Chapel church by Rev. Apple.
     Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband and several children and step children. She was a daughter of Mr. John Ray.
     The News extends sympathy to all the bereaved relatives and friends.

     Mrs. Cameron F. Tew --- known and much loved woman -- Haw River, died at her home --- Haw River this morning at 10 --- her death coming as a great shock to her family.
     She is survived by her husband and seven children, the youngest born this morning.
     Funeral arrangements are not complete at this time.

MRS. REBECCA JANE BLANCHARD PASSES
     Mrs. Rebecca Jane Blanchard wife of Mr. F. U. Blanchard, aged 74 years, died at their home north of Hopedale, on Burlington Route 3, yesterday evening at 6:30, following an illness of two months; Mrs. Blanchard was one of the best known and most highly esteemed women of the county, and is of one of the most prominent families of this section.
     She is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. G .T. Lineberry, Mrs. A. O. Huffman, Mrs. W. J. Teer, Mrs. Joe Perry, and Messrs, Z. V., J. U., B. F., and E. C. Blanchard, all of Burlington and Faucette township, and one sister, Mrs. Sallie Fowler, City.
     The funeral will be held Long's Chapel tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock by Dr. P. H. Fleming. The pall-bearers will be the grandsons: Messrs. Herman Blanchard, Joseph Huffman,. Archie Lineberry, Clarence Blanchard, Curtis Blanchard, and Dallas Teer. The following will be carried by the granddaughters.

Mrs. Georgia A. Teer
    Mrs. Georgia A. Teer, wife of Mr. Charles M. Teer, of South Main street, died in Watts hospital Durham, yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock after being there six days.
    Mrs. Teer is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Misses Woodford Flossie and Margaret Teer, Herbert and John Teer and Mrs. N. B. Tillman, of this place, and Mrs. A. M. Bailey, of Greensboro, and seven brothers and three sisters, as follows: C. L. and Walker Allison, Burlington: Will Allison, Graham; Hermon Allison Stokesdale and D. F., J. H., and Sam Allison, Hillsboro; Mrs. Ed Lewis and Mrs. Henry Anderson, Burlington, R. F. D., and Mrs. Chas. Linville, Belews Creek.
    The funeral will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 11 o'clock at Long's Chapel by Dr. G. O. Lankford, assisted by Dr. P. H. Fleming and Robert Councilman, and interment made in the church cemetery by Rich & Thompson.
    The pallbearers will be: Messrs T. M. Moore, I. S. Perry, John Moore, C. F. Smith, F. M. Brown, Jim Burns and C. F. Koonce.
    Mrs. Teer was a residence of Burlington several years and during that time she had won many friends by her kind and gentle disposition and her many splendid qualities.
    She will be badly missed in her home, her neighborhood and in her church relations.

John Edward Chandler
     Little John Edward Chandler, aged 19 months, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Chandler of the Long Chapel section, died at Watts hospital, Durham, Saturday, following a brief illness.
     The body was brought to the Green and McClure undertaking parlors Saturday. The funeral was conducted at Long's Chapel Sunday morning at 11 o'clock by Dr. P. H. Fleming, and the little body interred in the churchyard.

FUNERAL FOR JESSE BERRY TERRELL
     Funeral, service for Jesse Berry Terrell, 67, whose death occurred last night at his home in Haw River, was conducted from the home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by his pastor; Rev. P. H. Fleming and interment followed in the burial plat at Long's Chapel.
     The deceased had spent most of his life in Haw River, where he was well known and highly respected. He was a member of Union Ridge Christian church, a devout believer. The following children survive; Wm. A., Miss Rosa, Levi, Berry B., Gurney M., Misses Mattie, Nellie and John B. Terrell, all of Haw River, Also a half sister, Mrs. A. L. Dawson.

FAULKNER BABY DIES
     Ivey Eugene Faulkner, aged four months, died Monday morning at 12:05 o'clock at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Noah Faulkner, Route 1, after three days of sickness. Beside the parents, three brothers survive, Edgar, Junior, and Odell; Three grandparents, Mrs. Sarah Faulkner, and Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Smith, Route 5.
     Funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Long's Chapel, with Rev. J. F. Apple in charge, and burial was made in the churchyard. Flowers were carried by Mesdames John Long, Lloyd Matthews, and Misses Maridell, Josephine, Evelyn, and Fadene Faulkner. Laurie Mae Christopher, Vivian Roney, Myrtle Somers, and Ruby Staley.

CHILD LOSES LIFE WHEN FIRE TOTALLY DESTROYS HOME
Katherine Marie Cobb, Two Months Old, is Victim. Mother Injured In Attempt To Rescue Infant
    Katherine Marie, aged two months, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Samuel F. Cobb, lost her life in a blaze that destroyed the home at 9 o'clock yesterday morning. The origin is believed to have been sparks from a large open fireplace.
    The husband a war veteran, who came from Illinois, married a High Point lady and settled on a farm north of here, was absent from home at the time of the blaze.
    Mrs. Cobb and her mother were in another part of the house and when they discovered the blaze it had already enveloped the crib in which the baby lay. The mother's hands were burned in a desperate effort to save the baby.
    The Cobbs lived in an old house built by earlier settlers, but were building a new home nearby. Their entire household furnishings was destroyed. Funeral service for the child was conducted from Long's Chapel this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

MRS. SIDNEY A. WARD
    Funeral services for Mrs. Sidney A. Ward, 42, who died at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, at her home on Route 6, Burlington, following a three years' illness, with four days critical illness, were conducted at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Long's Chapel, by the Rev. Paschal and Rev. L. A. Nall. Interment was in the church cemetery.
    Flower bearers were: Miss Mittie Hughes in charge; Misses Edna Thomas, Lorina Whisenant, Lorina Cheek, Metha Ball Sharpe, Hazel Allison, Catherine Wiggins, all schoolmates of Miss Hallie Ward.
    The pallbearers were: Jesse Andrews, Tommy McPherson, Henry Lewis, Aubrey Kimery, T. E. Lassiter and Henry Cheek.

   Final rites for Mrs. Mary Anne Carey, 63, wife of the late William Henry Carey, were conducted this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Long's Chapel Christian church by the Elder Wilder Jones. Interment was in the church cemetery.
    Mrs. Carey died at 4:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at her home on Route 5, Burlington, following an illness of 12 days with pneumonia. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Mollie Batchelor, of Sharpesburg; Mrs. Mattie Farmer, of Elm City Route 3, and Miss Mary Carey, of Elm City Route 2; Eugene, Otis, Lonnie and Ervin Carey, all of Burlington, Route 5, and Johnnie Carey, of Elm City, Route 3, and 10 grandchildren.

   Roy Vance Hodgin, 2 years and 5 months old son of Roy M. Hodgin, and the late Mrs. Hattie Phillips Hodgin, died at 7 o'clock this morning at Duke hospital, after an illness of one week.
   The father, of 810 Maple avenue, a grandmother, Mrs. Cornella Hodgin, of Burlington and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Phillips, of R. F. D. Burlington, survive.
   Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Long's Chapel Christian church by the Rev. C. A. Brown and Rev. W. A. Way, of Greensboro.

ROY VANCE HODGIN.
     Funeral services for Roy Vance Hodgin, 2 years and five months old son of Roy M. Hodgin, were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Long's Chapel Christian church by the Rev. C. A. Brown. Rev. W. A. Way, of Greensboro, Rev. M. Neese, of Haw River, and Rev. F. W. Paschall. Interment was in the church cemetery.
     The infant died at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Duke hospital, in Durham. He had been ill one week.
     The pallbearers were: H. A. Edmunds, C. M. Andrews, Cecil Chappell, and Clarence Way.
     The flowers were in charge of Mrs. T. G. Hargrove, and carried by Mrs. Alvis Sykes, Mrs. Clarence Fuquay, Misses Nettie Belle Snyder, Evelyn Black and Lora Holder.

MISS BLANCHE SQUIRES.
     Miss Blanche Madeline Squires, 15 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Squires, of Route 3, Burlington, died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at a local hospital following an illness of two weeks.
     The parents, sisters, Alton, Nellie, Leoda, Lilian, Lucile, Louise and Beatrice; two brothers, Jack and Robert, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Doughton, of Burlington survive.
     Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Long's Chapel church by the Rev. P. H. Fleming. Interment will be in the Linwood cemetery.

    Frances Ellen James, age 7, of Haw River, died at Duke hospital, yesterday morning at 4:15 o'clock following an illness of eight weeks.
    Funeral will be held from St. Andrews chapel, Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, by the Rev. Homer P. Starr and the Rev. James A. Cox, of Burlington. Interment will be in Long's Chapel cemetery.

EDGAR P. LEWIS
    MEBANE—Edgar P, Lewis, 84, of Route 4, Mebane, in the Long's Chapel Community, died suddenly at his home at 1:25 o'clock yesterday morning following two years of failing health.
    He was the husband of Mrs. Cora Allison Lewis who survives, and was born in Guilford County as the son of Ira R. and Mrs. Ellen Lewis.
    The funeral was held at Long's Chapel Christian Church this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Lewis was a member of Lee's Chapel Methodist Church of Guilford County.
    Officiating at the service today was Rev. E. J. Clawson, pastor of Long's Chapel, assisted by Rev. L. N, Clark, a former pastor.
    Survivors include his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Nelson Hammond of Burlington; eight sons, I. R., C. R., and P. R. Lewis, all of Route 4, Mebane; D. A., J. C., and H. L. Lewis, all of Route 5, Burlington, and H. G. and H. H. Lewis, both of Burlington; one brother, C. G. Lewis of Route 4, Mebane; 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    MEBANE- Mrs. Cora L. Patton, 78, of 115 W. Jackson St. died yesterday afternoon at 4:10 o'clock after a long illness.
    Mrs. Patton was a native of Rockingham County, daughter of the late John and Minnie Bell Carter Meeks, and wife of the late George L. Patton. She was a member of the Mebane First Baptist Church and of the Eastern Star Chapter in Mebane.
    Survivors include two sons, Howard L. Patton of Brunswick, Ga., and Jack L. Patton of Augusta. Ga.; and one grandson.
    Final rites will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Mebane First Baptist Church. The Rev. A. P. Hill and Dr. J. C. Trotter will conduct the service. Burial will be in Long's Chapel Church Cemetery. The body will remain at Walker's Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.
    Pallbearers will be Bennus Haley, Bedford Haley, D. B. Haley, Frank Haley, George Haley, Macon Mebane, and Clyde Bryan.

Robert B. Keck
    Robert B. (Bob) Keck, 85, of Rt. 5, Burlington, died Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his residence after three years of failing health and two weeks of critical illness.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late William Alfred and Sarah Smith Keck. He was a retired textile worker.
    Survivors include three nieces with whom he made his home. They are Miss Lois Maness, Mrs. Levonia Martin, and Mrs. Jack H. Terrell. Also surviving are other nieces and nephews.
    Final rites will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. The Rev. James Rosser, pastor of Haw River United Church of Christ, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Long's Chapel cemetery.
    The body will remain at the funeral. home through the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.

W. T. Sumner
     William T. "Willie" Sumner, 88, of Cook Rest Home in Reidsville, died at noon Wednesday after one month of critical illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late William and Nannie Loy Sumner.
     He is survived by one brother, Cliff Sumner of Burlington.
     Final rites will be conducted Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock in Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. R. B. Buckner, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church will conduct the service, assisted by the Rev. Luther A. Nall, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Long's Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.
     The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home through the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from7 to 9 o'clock. At other times they will be at the home of a niece, Mrs. Annie May Dickey of 1428 N. Graham-Hopedale Rd.

Terrell, Joseph A.
    Haw River - Joseph A (Joe) Terrell, 83, of Rt. 1, Haw River, died at his home this morning at 2 o'clock following two years of failing health and two days of critical illness.
    A native of Orange County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Fannie Robertson Terrell. He was a member of Haw River United Church of Christ and was a retired Duke Power Co. lineman. He was a veteran of World War 1 and a member of the Haw River American Legion Post.
    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosa Foy Terrell of the home; four sons, Harold Terrell of East Chicago, Ind., Jack Terrell of Rt. 5, Burlington, Melvin Terrell of Haw River, and Richard Terrell of Graham; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Final rites will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Haw River United Church of Christ by the Rev. James L. Rosser, pastor. Burial will follow in Long's Chapel United Church of Christ cemetery.
    The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 7 to 9 o'clock.

William Everette Squires
   BURLINGTON — William Everette Squires, 88 of 2046 McCray Road died Sunday at the Hospice Home after a lengthy illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late James Onslow and Mary Jeffreys Squires. He was the husband of Ruth Ector Squires for over 66 years.
   He was a member of Long’s Chapel United Church of Christ where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, the Men’s Fellowship, he served on the board of Deacons, Trustees and was a honorary Elder. He was a retired farmer and logger.
   Survivors include his wife of the home, daughter, Glenda (Jerry) Baumgarner of Burlington, NC, grandchildren, Shawn Baumgarner and Lance Squires. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Larry Everette Squires, a sister Iola Carey, brothers Clyde Squires and Harvey Squires.
   The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. at Long’s Chapel United Church Of Christ with burial in Long’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday. At other times at the residence.

David D. Sutton
     MEBANE — David D. Sutton, 50, of 516 North 2nd St., died Sunday, October 2, 2005, at his home after 10 months of failing health due to a brain tumor. He was the husband of Mindy Boone Sutton and son of the late Dallas and Oteleyn Smith Sutton.
     A native of Alamance County he was a homebuilder, devoted husband, father and grandfather.
     Survivors include his wife Mindy Sutton of the home; daughters, Ashleigh N. Boone of the home, Crystal D. Sutton of Asheboro, Heather R. Mills of Beckley; sons, David A. Sutton of the home and Shawn D. Sutton of Burlington; five grandchildren; brothers, Bucky Sutton of Mebane, Lee Sutton of Eden, Denny Sutton of Burlington, Tommy D. Sutton of Mebane; sisters, Mrs. Bob Wilson of Eden and Dale S. Keitz of Dallas, Texas.
     He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Longs Chapel United Church of Christ Cemetery by the Rev. Bobby Fann. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Iris Marie Shepherd Fonville Wingo
   BURLINGTON — Iris Marie Shepherd Fonville Wingo, 85, of Sandy Cross Road passed away Friday, November 18, 2005 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health. She was born November 19, 1919 in Guilford County. The daughter of Marcia Gerringer and Byrd Shepherd, she was the wife of the late William J. Fonville and the late Charles Leroy Wingo. Iris was a member of Long’s Chapel Christian Church and graduated from Elon College in 1937 where she was chosen "Miss Elon". She married William J. Fonville, Sr. in 1938. He died September 16, 1961. She then married Charles L. Wingo in 1969 and moved to Newport News, Va.. In 1984 she moved to Florida where she lived until Charlie’s death in 1999. While in Florida she was a member of the Family and Community Education (FCE) Program. She served one year as the president.    Survivors include her daughter Marcia Fonville Cope and her husband Kenny of Canton, N.C., sons: William Jerry Fonville, Jr. of Burlington, Robert Shepherd Fonville and his wife Carmen of Newport News, Va., grandchildren: Belinda Fonville Beeson and her husband Bryan, Kelly Cope Hartzog and her husband Shawn, Shannon Cope Setzer and her husband Will, Jason, Benjamin, Matthew, and Karie Fonville, and great-grandchildren: Payton and Sayla Fonville, Zachary, Caroline, Sarah and Asher Hartzog, Austin and Weston Setzer. Her husbands, parents, an infant daughter Harriet Marie Fonville and a granddaughter Kimberly Fonville, preceded her in death.
   The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Long’s Chapel Christian Church by Dr. James Baughn. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
   The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of Jerry Fonville, 1648 S. Fonville Rd., Burlington.

Barnette Wilson Smith
    
BURLINGTON — Barnette Wilson Smith, 91, of 1777 Deep Creek Church Road, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at the Hospice Home of Alamance.
    She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Long’s Chapel United Church of Christ and the Young at Heart Seniors at the church.
    Survivors include a daughter, Libby S. Rainey and husband, Dean, of Burlington; son, Jennings (Jimmy) W. Smith and wife Rachel of Burlington; grandchildren, Brian Rainey and wife Deanna, Randall Smith and wife, Janna, Alexa Flynt and husband, Mark, and Michael Rainey and wife, Lisa; and great-grandchildren, Parks Colin Flynt and Jackson Jennings Rainey.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jennings Smith; her parents, Jasper and Nona Wilson; five sisters; and two brothers.
   The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at Long’s Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. James Baughn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Visitation will be at McClure Funeral Service in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence of Libby and Dean Rainey, 1807 Deep Creek Church Road, Burlington.

    GRAHAM — Russell M. Stewart , 82, formerly of 169 Trollingwood Road, Haw River, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
    Survivors include a daughter, Patricia S. Bosquet of Haw River; a son, Peter S. Stewart  of Cary; and three grandchildren.
    A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Long’s Chapel Christian Church.

Ray W. Lewis
    MEBANE — Mr. Ray W. Lewis, 74, of 3164 Barnett Road, Mebane, died at his residence on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2:21 p.m. following several years of declining health.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Kay S. Lewis, who survives, and the son of Clyde R. Lewis and Neva Madden Lewis, both deceased. He retired from farming and the textile industry. He was a member of Long’s Chapel Christian Church.
    In addition to the wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Rita L. Hopkins and husband, Bobby, of Burlington and Mrs. Lisa L. Simmons and husband, David, of Elon; four grandchildren, Jared Hopkins, Kaylan Hopkins, Kendall Simmons, and Griffin Simmons; one sister, Mrs. Liz L. Dixon of Mebane; one brother, Mr. Allen Lewis and wife, Sonaha, of Mebane; and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral will be conducted at Long’s Chapel Christian Church on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. James Baughn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at Long’s Chapel Christian Church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the residence.

James "Jim" Marvin Vestal Jr.
    BURLINGTON — Mr. James "Jim" Marvin Vestal Jr., 83, of 1453 Morningside Drive, Burlington, died at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 10:35 a.m. following 1 ½ years of declining health and three weeks critical illness.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of 57 years to Mabel Birchfield Vestal , who survives, and the son of James Marvin Vestal Sr. and Nina Fleming Vestal , both deceased. He was U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from IBM. He was a very active member of Front Street Christian Church.
    In addition to the wife of the home, survivors include one daughter, Susan Vestal Baughn and husband, the Rev. Dr. James Baughn, of Burlington; one son, James Robert Vestal and wife, Candace, of Alamance County; two grandchildren, Angie Cobb of Windsor and Robin Senter of Charlotte; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Cobb and Hunter Cobb.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Alex Vestal .
    The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Dr. Dace Lewis, and the Rev. Dr. James Baughn. Burial will be in Long’s Chapel Christian Church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence.
    Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
    The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Don Chaplin and the rest of the staff at Alamance Regional Medical Center and the Hospice Home.
