Sheffield Church1792The Wardens and Vestry of Sheffield and Burton, namely: Gabriel DeVeber, Gervas Say, Charles Harrison, Isaac Hibbard, Edward Vener, Richard Bartlett, Samuel Tilley, Peter Watson, Silas Smith, Jacob Cook, James Chase, Samuel Austin - state that a meeting of the inhabitants voted for a Church of England to be established in Sheffield, and that in the original grant of land in Maugerville and Sheffield, there were four lots reserved for public uses. The dissenters claimed said land to be exclusion of the Church of England, no improvements were made prior to the settling of the Loyalist. Memorialist ask said lots for the use of the Church of England.
