Land Records

        This section of the Queens County site will contain misc. items pertaining to land records for the county. Over time, it may include such items as brief excerpts from Memorials for Land (Land Petitions), as well as surveys of conditions for the the large tracts of land that were given to certain individuals as rewards for services rendered, or who were granted the lands for purposes of settlement of numerous tenants.

        Additional papers re the Col. Spry grant, on the Saint John River, can be found in the University of New Brunswick Law Library, so Andrew Gunter has told me.

Timothy Wetmore Account of the Improvements made on Col. Spry's Land on the East side of the River Saint John exhibited with a Petition of James Spray (Wheaton) in behalf of Co. Spray  30th June 1786.

{This is found in the Surveyor General's papers at PANB.}

There are two additional pages relating to these people. One is a list of people who have not taken out leases with Col. Spray, recorded 29th July 1786 and contains four data columns for no. of acres before and after the survey that are cleared, and the number of years and months on the property. The other sheet contains a list of names for persons who have taken out a lease. No date. This sheet only records land that has been cleared pre and after the survey.
