Stinson Leavitt
Peacefully, at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB on October 25, 2004, Mr.
Stinson Leavitt, husband of the late Doris (Spinney) Leavitt,
formerly of Back Bay, NB. Born in Back Bay, NB on August 30, 1912, he was a son
of the late Addison and Alice (Cook) Leavitt. A loving father and
grandfather, he is survived by four daughters, Christina Leavitt of St. George,
Lorreen (Stewart) Brown of Beaver Harbour, Lorraine (William) Justason
of Pocologan, Etta (Vance) Cooke of Back Bay; 6 grandchildren, Michelle
Leavitt (Peter Smith) and Stinson Jr., both of Back Bay, Herbert (Dione) Brown
of Beaver Harbour, Allen Brown of Pennfield, Tony Justason (Tracy) of Pennfield,
Rocky Justason of Seeley’s Cove; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Manford)
Cook of Back Bay, and Gracie Henry of St. Stephen; several nieces,
nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Edna Doucette;
two grandchildren, Theresa Justason and April Dawn Brown; four brothers, Victor
Leavitt, Vinton Leavitt, Addison Leavitt and Tom Patterson; three
sisters, Alice Leslie, Bernice Hanselpacker and Reecey Holt.
Stinson was a self-employed fisherman and peddled fish for most of his life, and
was known throughout the area for his smoked fish.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St.
George, NB. The service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm from The Gary E.
Waycott Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating, followed by
interment in St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home on
Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Stinson’s memory, donations to the Canadian
Diabetes Association or the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
