EDITH MARIE STEVENS

Relatives and friends were saddened to hear of the death of Edith Marie Stevens which occurred on May 29, 1985 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Saint John, N. B., following a lengthy illness.  A daughter of the late William Robert Irvine and Elizabeth (Essansa) Irving, she was born February 9, 1900 at Eastport, Me. She was married to the late Harry Stevens.  She was a member of the Second Falls United Baptist Church.  Survivors are her children:  Mrs. Robert Fudge (Althea) of Saint John, James Alden, Earl;  18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren;  three sisters; Mrs. Arthur (Mattie) Hughes of Lepreau, Isabelle Fernett and Mary Berry both from New Hampshire;  three brothers Charles, William, and Robert all from Providence, R.I.;  several nieces and nephews. One son William, predeceased her.

The funeral was held from the Second Falls United Baptist Church with Rev. John Bunting officiating at the service. the hymn Safe in the Arms of Jesus was sung by Anne Pollock with Esther Thompson as organist. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Stevens.  They were Howard McLean, Blaine Burgess, John Stevens, Mark Stevens, Albert Stevens and Kenneth Stevens.

Interment was at the family lot in the St. George Rural Cemetery. Many beautiful floral tributes were received and numerous donations were made to various memorial funds.

Attending the funeral from out of town were those from Providence, R. I., Nova Scotia, Moncton, Saint John, St. Stephen, Blacks Harbour and other nearby communities.
