MRS. RAY TRAVIS

St. George, Jan. 29 (1930)

Death's Grim Reaper again visited our midst on Thursday morning last, when the entire town and community was called upon to mourn the loss of one of St. George's most popular young married ladies in the death of Mrs. Ray Travis (nee Myrtle Brown) at the early age of nineteen years.  She was the youngest daughter of Mrs. Gussie Brown and the late John Brown of Upper Letang.  Mrs. Travis was married in July, 1929, and had made her home in New River, until a few weeks ago when medical attention necessitated her moving to St. George where she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Elmer White.  A very popular member of the younger set, through her genial and kind disposition, her loss is keenly regretted.

She leaves to mourn besides her sorrowing husband, her mother, six sisters, Mrs. Elmer White, Mrs. Joshua Seamans, Mrs. Lloyd Seamans, Mrs. Hazen Spear, of St. George, Mrs. Ambrose French of St. Catherines, Ont., Mrs. Leonard Ells of Berlin, N.H.;  three brothers, Harry of Black's Harbour, Albert of St. Catherines, and Jack at home.

The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the residence of her sister, Mrs. Elmer White, and Mr. White, to St. Mark's Church, where service was conducted by the Rector, Rev. A. R. Yeomans, who spoke very feelingly of the sterling qualities of the deceased and on the loss of one so young.  The pall bearers were Albert Brown, Gene Brown, Jack Brown, and Winfred Travis.

The profusion of floral tributes which banked the casket both in the home and church testified to the esteem in which this young lady was held.  Interment took place in the family lot in the Rural Cemetery.

Among those out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Travis, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Travis, Miss Madeline Travis, Joseph Haggerty, sr., and sons, Roy Daly and Ernest Shaw of New River, Mrs. Henry Taylor of Lepreau, Albert Brown of St. Catherines, Ont., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of Black's Harbour, Miss Lillian Boynton of Grand Manan and Miss Edna Kaye of New River.
