At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on Saturday, April 25,
2015, Mr. Melvin Eben French, beloved husband of Helen (Hooper) French of
the Fundy Nursing Home in Blacks Harbour and formerly of Back Bay NB. Born
at Back Bay NB on July 21, 1928 he was a son of the late Thomas and Gertrude
(Hanley) French. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in
addition to his wife Helen, Melvin is survived by his daughter: Brenda
(Blair) Golden of L'Etange NB; stepdaughter: Hope (Kenny) Hooper of
Fredericton NB; stepson: Grant Hooper (Kathryn Clark) of Back Bay NB;
grandchildren: Krysta (Chad) Hanley and Jay (Jessica) Golden both of of
L'Etange NB; step grandchildren: Geoffery Hooper of Fredericton NB and
Nicole (Mike) Thompson of L'Etete NB; great-grandchildren: Payton Hanley and
MacKenzie Golden; step-great-grandchildren: Keenan, Kohen and Konner
Thompson; sister: Mildred (Mered) Hatt of L'Etange NB; brothers: Clarence
(Isabel) and Reginald (Jacqueline) French both of St. George NB as well as
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife
Mary (Matheson) French; brothers: Valmond, Boynton and Glendon;
step-daughter-in-law: Faith Hooper.
Prior to his retirement, Melvin was a Carpenter by trade having worked at
St. George Pulp and Paper, Saint John Dry Dock, Point Lepreau and Connors
Brothers in Back Bay from where he retired. His most memorable job was
working with the Inuit in Baffin Island. Melvin spent his remaining years at
the Fundy Nursing Home with Helen.
Resting at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB from where the
service will be held on Monday at 2 pm with Pastor Gordon Cooke and Pastor
Wayne Matheson officiating. Interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Visiting at the church on Sunday from 7-9 PM. Family flowers only as
requested by the family. In Melvin's memory, donations to the NB Heart and
Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Charlotte
County Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
