Obituary - Mrs. Flora MacVicar
Many relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Flora MacVicar wife of Angus MacVicar of Mascarene, which occurred at the saint John General Hospital on Wednesday June 20, 1962.
Mrs. MacVicar was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hoyt) Stewart born May 10, 1895, at Mascarene where she had lived the most of her lifetime. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Mascarene.
Besides her husband, Mrs. MacVicar is survived by three sisters, Mrs. William Matthews (Bertha) of L'Etete; Mrs. Bert Armstrong (Grace) of St. George and Mrs. Cecil MacMahon (Josephine) of Walnut, California; several nephews and nieces. Three brothers and a sister died a number of years ago.
The largely attended funeral was held from the St. George Funeral Home, where service was conducted by Rev. C.A. Hicks, pastor of the United Baptist church, assisting him was Rev. dr. John Y. Garrett. Two hymns, Good Night and Good Morning and Abide With Me were sung by members of the Church Choir.
Pallbearers were Jack D. Armstrong, Cecil S. Leland, Lieut. Col. J.O. Spinney, Vernon C. Southard, Eugene McNichol and Earl Fiander. Interment was made in the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Many beautiful floral tributes were received as well as Gideon bibles, testifying to the esteem in which Mrs. MacVicar was held by numerous relatives and friends.
Among those attending the funeral from out side points were Mr. Sherman Stewart and his daughter, Miss Peggy Stewart of Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Rattray, Saint John; Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Richardson of Moncton as well as many from all sections of the community.
