Peacefully at The Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on December 8, 2009, Mrs. Doris M. (Stewart)(Morrison) Kernighan, wife of the late Robert “Bob” Kernighan formerly of St. George NB went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Born at Rothesay NB on June 22, 1913, she was born a daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Fawcett) Stewart and adopted daughter of Mark and Ella (Leslie) Morrison. A loving mother and grandmother she is survived by two sons; Alvin Kernighan and Sidney (Karen) Kernighan both of St. George NB, three grandchildren; Allison Kernighan of St. George, Cara (Adam) Hatt of Blacks Harbour NB and Debbie Kernighan of St. George, great grandchildren; Abby Kernighan and soon to be expected Baby Hatt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Bob, she was predeceased by brothers; Sidney and Stanley Stewart and Jim Morrison, and sisters; Hilda Stewart, Ethel Holt and Ella Tatton. Doris was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Doris was a long time and active member of the St. George Baptist Chruch where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She loved to knit and enjoyed piling wood in her home. Doris was a very hard worker who, along with her late husband Bob, was very active on the St. George Rural Cemetery Board and could often be found working in and around the cemetery.

Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, St. George NB from where the service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm with Rev. Darren Millett officiating followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Thursday from 10 am until Noon. In Doris’ memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff of the Fundy Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care of their mom during her time there.
