Peacefully, following a brief illness, Mrs. Vera Viola (Sellars) Matheson,
wife of the late Mr. Albert D. Matheson of Upper L’Etang NB, passed away at
the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on August 4, 2009. Born at
Pennfield NB on February 2, 1922, she was the youngest child of the late
Harold G. and Jane V. (Hunter) Sellars. A loving mother, grandmother, and
sister, she is survived by one daughter, Alberta Cooke (Raye) of St. George
NB, one son, William Matheson (Marion) of Fairview AB, three grandchildren;
Krista Cooke (Colin O’Leary) of St. George, Melissa Matheson of Saint John
NB and Jeff Matheson (Beverley) of Canal NB, three great grandchildren;
Josie and Katie Matheson of Canal and Emma-Lee O’Leary of St. George, one
brother, Gordon Sellars (Marion) of Pennfield and several nieces, nephews
and cousins. In addition to her husband Albert, she was predeceased by a
granddaughter, Heather Cook, three sisters; Helen Powell, Marion Carter and
Margaret Sellars, and by four brothers; Horace, Frank, Raymond and Baby
Harold.
Through most of her life Vera was a devoted homemaker, making sure everyone
who walked through her door was well taken care of. She enjoyed quilting and
met with the Bonny River Quilters when able. Vera was a member of the
Presbyterian Kirk, St. George NB and will be missed by her family and many
friends.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage
Street, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The
service will be held from the Presbyterian Kirk, St. George, on Friday at 2
pm with Rev. Dr. Stephen Cho officiating followed by interment at the St.
George Rural Cemetery. Family flowers only please. In Vera’s memory
donations to the Presbyterian Kirk, St. George, or to a charity of the
donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
