MRS. MABEL REVIVA (COOK, LEAVITT) CURRIE
Friends and relatives were saddened by the death of Mrs. Mabel Currie, on Feb. 22, 1988, at the Fundy Nursing Unit in Blacks Harbour.
Born at Back Bay, on May 26, 1901, she was the youngest child of the late Johnsire and Elizabeth (Hodgson) Cook.
She was the last of a family of eight children. William Henry, Alice, Janie, Elizabeth, Cora, Lonzo and Chester, all lived to be elderly people, some over 100 years. Her sister, Lizie had predeceased her, on Jan. 2 of this year, in her 102nd year.
Married to Webster Leavitt in her early life, they lived in Blacks Harbour, Back Bay and St. George, before his death in 1949.
She then went to Toronto for some time, coming back to New Brunswick and working in Saint John for many years, where she met and married Bill Currie, a First World War veteran, on Oct.7, 1972.
He died a few years ago, and she kept right on working, tending people in their own homes, many younger than she was. At this time, she was well into her seventies - a very active lady.
She is survived by two sons, Gilbert of St. George, Webster of Saint John, two daughters, Cora (Morrison) Amero, of Saint John, and Blanche Leavitt of Sussex, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Mrs. Theresa Leavitt of Back Bay.
Three sons, one daughter, and three grandsons also predeceased her.

The funeral service was held in the St. George Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Norman Shorey, pastor of the Seaview Full Gospel Church. Rev. Shorey also played and sang When Life is Ended. He was assisted by Rev. Terry Messer, pastor of the Cornerstone Tabernacle, St. George.
Pallbearers were three grandsons: Monte Morrison, Cora's son; Morris and Cleveland Leavitt, Webster's sons; with Ronald and Samuel Leavitt as honorary pallbearers, sons of Gilbert; three nephews, Freddie and Earnest Matheson, and Sylvester Hooper.
Her body is resting in the Pennfield Vault where it will go for interment beside her first husband in the St. George Cemetery.
Beautiful floral tributes, cards of sympathy were received, and donations were made to the Heart Fund, Cancer Society and Church Building Fund, in her memory.
Messages of sympathy were received from Edmonton, Alta., Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Fredericton, N.B., as well as a special letter from Mr. Fred McCain, MP, Ottawa.
Relatives arrived from Dartmouth, Newcastle, Toronto, Saint John, Sussex and the surrounding communities to pay their last respects to a much loved lady.
