EDNA M. LEAVITT

The death of Edna Marie Leavitt occurred on December 7, 1980 at Fundy Hospital, Black's Harbour, following a lengthy illness.

Seventy-four years of age, Mrs. Leavitt was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Jones) Oliver.

Surviving are her husband Victor;  seven daughters, Mary (Mrs. Burton Borthwick), Alice (Mrs. Keith Leavitt) both of St. George;  Theresa (Mrs. Sheldon Hooper), Blanche (Mrs. Alfred Borthwick), Lorna (Mrs. Harold Mitchell), all of Back Bay;  Olive (Mrs. Doug Quigley) of Florida and Edna (Mrs. Harry Smith), of Maine.

Also five sons; Clayton and Lorne of St. George, Allan of St. Stephen, and Redmond and Charles of Back Bay.

Forty grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

One sister, Sadie Wright of Saint John and three brothers;  William, James and Leo Oliver of Saint John.

Mrs. Leavitt was an active member of the St. George Pentecostal Church prior to her illness.

The largely attended funeral was held at the Sea View Full Gospel Assembly in Back Bay with Rev. I. Kelsey of the Back Bay Pentecostal church officiating.

Rev. Hilton Hanley and his daughters sang two favorite hymns, 'Oh I Want to See Him', and 'When I've Gone the Last Mile of the Way'.

The pallbearers were Albert Leavitt, Earl Aymar, John Borthwick of Back Bay, Burton Borthwick Jr. of St. George, Victor Hooper of Carr's Ridge and Ronald Oliver of Saint John.  Interment was in the St. George Rural Cemetery.

Many beautiful floral tributes were received and a number of donations to Memorial Funds of the Cancer Society and the Canadian Heart Foundation and to the Lincourt Manor were made.

Attending the funeral from out of town were relatives and friends from Saint John, Grand Bay, St. Stephen, Ripples, and nearby communties.
