MURRAY E. LEAVITT

BACK BAY--The death of Murray E. Leavitt occurred at the Saint John General Hospital on Jan. 28, 1980, following a few weeks illness.

Mr. Leavitt was born at L'Etang on May 12, 1906 and was the only son of the late Robert and Martha Leavitt.

Since his marriage to Audella Hooper fifty-three years ago, they have raised(resided?) at Back Bay where he was engaged in the fishing industry, retiring from work a few years ago.

Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, (Marjorie) Mrs. Burpee N. Tucker Jr. of L'Etete, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; six sisters, (Vera) Mrs. Floyd Matthews, (Roberta) Mrs. Ward Dick both of L'Etete, (Viola) Mrs. Blair Cunningham of Upper Mills; Miss Marado Leavitt, of St. Stephen;  (Margaret) Mrs. Emery Justason of Black's Harbour; and (Stella) Mrs. Frederick Boie of Boston, Mass. Two sisters, (Addie) Mrs. Charles Thompson, Black's Harbour, and Miss Irene Leavitt died a few years ago.

The funeral service, which was very largely attended, was held in the Chapel of the St. George Funeral Home at St. George, conducted by Rec. Wayne T. Cunningham, pastor of the Sea View Full Gospel Church. The hymn 'Beyond the Sunset' was sung by the choir of the church, with Mrs. W. T. Cunningham as organist.

The pallbearers were four nephews, Maynard Justason, Gary, Michael and Merlin Cunningham, Glendon Tucker and Terry Matthews.

Interment was in the St. George Rural Cemetery.

Many beautiful floral tributes were received, and donations given for the Memorial Funds of the Sea View Full Gospel Church, the L'Etete Church of Christ, the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Eastern Charlotte chapter of the New Brunswick Heart Foundation and the Gideon Bible Society. Attending the funeral from outside points were relatives and friends from Boston, Upper Mills, St. Stephen, Saint John, Lepreau, Black's harbour, and from areas of the community.
