Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB On June 7, 2014, Mr. Hilton Stillman Hanley, loving husband of 74 years to Mrs. Alberta (Hatt) Hanley, formerly of Back Bay NB. Born at Back Bay NB on December 14, 1921, he was a son of the late Boynton and Mamie (Hooper) Hanley. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and uncle, in addition to his loving wife, Alberta, he is survived by three sons; Blayne (Lorena) Hanley and Calvin (Loma) Hanley both of Back Bay NB and Jeffrey (Dorothy) Hanley of Lake Utopia NB, nine daughters; Jeanette Mitchell and Anita (Phillip) Hooper both of Back Bay NB, Leah (Allison) Hannan of St. George NB, Agatha (Richard) Mitchell of Back Bay NB, Ruby (Ronnie) Hannan of Kerrs Ridge NB, Brenda (Dan) Brennan of Pennfield NB, Anne (Rev. Gordon) Cooke and Joan (Reid) Leighton both of Back Bay NB and Lori (Norman) Shorey of Moncton NB, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Ricky (Lana) Polland of Back Bay NB, one sister-in-law, Thelma Hanley of Sussex NB, one brother in law, Henry Hatt of L’Etang NB and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Hilton was predeceased by one son and one daughter both in infancy, Richard and Rhoda, one grandson, Jamie Hannan, one great-granddaughter, Clara Copeland, two sons-in-law; Weldon Mitchell and James Kernighan, two brothers; Beverley and Whitman and by four sisters; Lynwood, Athenia, Gertrude and Agatha.

Prior to his retirement, Hilton worked as a carpenter at various locations around the local community. He was a very spiritual man who loved the Lord with all his heart and enjoyed attending church more than anything. He became an ordained Minister on February 3, 1974. Hilton experienced many miracles in his lifetime and the largest miracle was for himself. He had a passion for traveling with his girls and singing. He was a friendly soul who would talk to everyone he met and he enjoyed the company of his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the Fundy Nursing Home for their compassionate care given to their father during these last months, your care and comfort will never be forgotten.

Resting at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB from where the service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with his son-in-law, Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating, followed by the interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Hilton’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
