Helena Star Leavitt
1917-2014
At the Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen NB on April 5, 2014, Mrs. Helena Star
(Griffin) Leavitt, wife of Mr. Lloyd Leavitt of St. Stephen NB. Born at
Wood Island NB on July 27, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Frank
and Linnie (Wilcox) Griffin. A loving wife, mother, step mother,
grandmother and sister, in addition to her husband Lloyd, she is
survived by one daughter, Judy Hanley of St. Andrews NB, two step
daughters; Mabel Fraser of Toronto ON and Ruby (Eric) Olsen of L’Etete
NB, three grandchildren; Marc (Ella) Hanley of St. George NB, Lesley
Hanley (Ron Middleton) of St. Stephen NB and Aaron (Angela) Hanley of
Indianapolis IN, five great grandchildren; Monique, Richmond & Karlee,
Jonah & Nora, one sister, Rhoda Zwicker of St. Andrews NB and several
nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her first husband, Earl
Leavitt, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Prior to her retirement, Helena worked as a Florist. She was an avid
writer who wrote beautiful poetry and loved to tell stories. She had a
large collection of dolls and angel firgurines and still enjoyed
arranging flowers in her spare time. She was a women of faith who
enjoyed visiting the sick and reading them the Bible and sang with the
Valley Gospel Singers.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26
Portage Street, St. George NB from where service will be held from the
Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 4:00 pm with Rev. Bob
Smith officiating. The interment will be held at the St. George Rural
Cemetery at a later date. Visitation at the funeral home will take place
on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Helena’s memory, donations to a
charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
