on May 7, 2013, Mr. Lawrence Vernon Stewart, husband of Mrs. Freda (Cooke)
Stewart of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Elmcroft NB
on August 20, 1922, he was a son of the late Hermon and Estella (Beney)
Stewart. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to
his wife Freda, he is survived by one son Michael (Denise) Stewart of
Alberta, three daughters; Marilyn Young of Toronto ON,
Barbara (Leonard) Richard of Moncton NB and Susan (Ernest)
Richard of Pennfield NB, one step-son, David (Cindy)
MacDougall of Pennfield NB, many grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,
several great grandchildren, two brothers; Kenneth (Shirley) Stewart of
Pennfield NB and Alvin (Rena) Stewart of Blacks Harbour NB, one sister,
Doris Stewart of Blacks Harbour NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence was predeceased by two sons; Danny and Larry, one daughter, Joan
Leavitt, two grandsons; Mike Stewart and Jason
Kernighan, two brothers; Clarence and Merlin and by two sisters;
Annie and Florence.
Prior to his retirement, Lawrence worked many years as an Engineer for
Connors Bros in Blacks Harbour. He was a veteran of the Second World War
having served with the Artillery Division and he also sailed on the Queen
Mary. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature and animals, especially
cats. In his spare time, Lawrence loved to go for drives and enjoyed
visiting Elmcroft. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 39,
Blacks Harbour NB.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage
Street from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial
Chapel on Thursday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Victor Chant officiating followed by
the interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home
on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Lawrence’s memory, donations to a
charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
