Wendal Sterling Cooke of Saint John passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a period of failing health. Born at Back Bay, Charlotte County on July 14, 1944, he was a son of the late Arnold and Lois (Seamans) Cooke. Wendal was a carpenter by trade, and had also worked at the YMCA, and for a short time at Connor Bros. He enjoyed playing cribbage.
Wendel is survived by his son, Adrian Cooke (Janice Meunier) of Picadilly; his daughter, Trena Hanley (Peter) of Saint John; three grandchildren: Tyler of Picadilly and Shayla and Jeremy of Saint John; six brothers: Rufus (Andrea), Vance (Etta) and Arnold Jr. all of Back Bay, Gerald of Saint John, John (Brenda) of Deer Island and Burton (Evylynn) of Blacks Harbour; five sisters: Jean Leavitt (Clem), Violet Cooke (Bob) and Connie McVicar all of Saint John, Sally Berry of Blacks Harbour and Gail Guadette (Aimy) of Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wendal was predeceased by a son, Dennis; sister, Janice and brother, Lawrence.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:00 Noon from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in the St. George Rural Cemetery on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 11:00 AM. For those who wish, remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
