MRS. WILLIAM DEWAR

St. George

Relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. (Mame) William Dewar, which occurred on March 24, following a lengthy illness at the Rocmaura Nursing Home in Saint John, where she had been a resident for several years.

In her 90th year, Mrs. Dewar, the former Mary Teresa Scammel, was a daughter of the late John and Mary Scammel.  She was born July 24, 1888 at St. George where she resided the greater part of her lifetime.

She was a member of the St. George's Roman Catholic Church.  Her husband died in 1961, two sons also predeceased her.  Edward V. and J. Roy Dewar and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Glidden, died in 1976.

Surviving are three sons, G. Everett, Manor Road, St. George;  Horace M., Sault Ste. Marie;  Ontario;  and Arthur J. of Hawaii;  six daughters, (Madeline) Mrs. Fred MacVicor of Belleville, Ontario;  (Margaret) Mrs. Roy Beaton, Providence, R. I., Mrs. Irene Burke, Buffalo, N. Y.; (Alberta) Mrs. Frank McAleenan of Campobello; (Geraldine) Mrs. Herbert Likely of Saint John;  and (Jean) Mrs. Burton A. Justason of Goose Bay, Labrador.  Also surviving are 28 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces.

The funeral was held from the St. George Funeral Home following prayers to St. George's Roman Catholic Church, where the Funeral Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Kevin M. Barry.

The pallbearers were five grandsons and a family friend, Lawrence E. Dewar, Sherman F. Dewar, Steven Cody, Richard Justason, Jack McAleenan, and Charles Fraser.  Interment was in the Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Hill, St. George.

Beautiful floral tributes were received, as well as a number of mass cards, and donations to the various Memorial Funds given in memory of Mrs. Dewar.
