2010, Mr. Clifton Alexander Thorne, husband of the late Mrs. A. Marie (
Kingston)
Thorne, formerly of Canal NB. Born at St. George NB on February 7, 1918, he
was a son of the late Johnny and Carrie (
Hanselpacker)
Thorne. A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by three
daughters; Ramona (Gary)
Vance of St. George, Patricia
(Mort)
Frost of St. Stephen NB and Mary (Roger)
Young of Canal, six sons; Clifton (Deannie)
Thorne
of Lake George NB, Bobby (Belinda) Thorne of Canal, Joseph (Debbie) Thorne
of Oven Head NB, Edward (Nancy) Thorne of Bethel NB, Christopher (Brenda)
Thorne and David Thorne both of Canal, 17 grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren, one great great grandson, one sister, Marjorie
Reid
of Chilliwack BC, one sister in law, Ruby Thorne of St. George and several
nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by
two brothers; Arthur and Delbert, one daughter in law, Barbara (Scott)
Thorne, one brother in law, Jim Reid and one sister in law, Lillian Thorne.
Clifton was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the First
Light Anti-Aircraft Division where he operated as a Dispatcher by
motorcycle, serving in England, France, Holland and Belgium from 1940 …
1945. Following the war, Clifton worked as a meat cutter at Base Utopia and
also worked for the D.O.T. He and his late wife Marie, operated Marie’s
Diner, where he cooked until its closure in 1994. One of his first job’s was
a Stone Cutter for the quarries around the St. George area and he was the
last surviving stone cutter of that era. Collecting antiques, fighting with
his kids and loving his grandchildren were his passions in life. He was a
member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40 in St. George, who will be
remembered for his storytelling and his great sense of humor. He will be
sadly missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage
Street, St. George from where the service will be held from the Gary E.
Waycott Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne
officiating. The family would like to welcome friends to a reception
immediately following the service which will be held at the St. George Royal
Canadian Legion, Branch # 40. The interment will take place at the St.
George Catholic Cemetery in the Spring. Visiting at the funeral home on
Sunday from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. By request, family
flowers only, and donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
greatly apprecaited by the family. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40
will hold a Tribute Service Monday at 7 pm at the funeral home.
