Oddbjørn Per Skodje

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB, following a brief illness, Mr. Oddbjørn (“Obbie”) Per Skodje, beloved husband of Laura Elizabeth (Hennessey) Skodje of Blacks Harbour, NB, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends, on July 28, 2004. Born in Ålesund, Norway on March 24, 1958, he was the son of Aslaug Elida (Dypvik) Skodje of St. George, NB (Søvik, Norway) and the late Peder Ingvald Skodje. A loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, he is survived by Laura, his loving wife of 26 years; his mother, Aslaug; two daughters, Krista of Halifax, NS and Jenna of Blacks Harbour, NB; one son, Kristoffer of Campbell River, BC; one brother, Stig (Rosalie) of St. George; two aunts, Lilly Tennfjord of Søvik, Norway, and Anti Storheim of Valderoy, Norway; two uncles, Gustav Skodje of Vigra, Norway and Erling Dypvik of Søvik, Norway; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; especially best friends Greg (Mary) Hatt of Blacks Harbour. Oddbjørn was pre-deceased by one son, Eirik Skodje in 1978.

In 1962, at the age of four, Oddbjørn moved to Bathurst, NB from Søvik, Norway. In 1964, he moved to Georgetown, PEI, and then on to St. George, NB in 1968, where he graduated from Eastern Charlotte Regional School in 1976.  He was president of the class of 1976. Oddbjørn was an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic by trade for 20 years, having worked for the Irving Sawmill in Pennfield, then for Connors Bros. Ltd., Blacks Harbour, in the Can & Cover Division.

Rested at the St. George Funeral Home (755- 3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Saturday at 11 am, followed by interment in St. George Rural Cemetery. In Oddbjørn’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice were appreciated by the family.
