Mrs. Vida B. McKinstry

ST. GEORGE-The death of Mrs. Vida Bennett (Maxwell) McKinstry occurred at the Oxford Manor Nursing Home at Oxford, Mass. following a lengthy illness.

A native of St. George, Mrs. McKinstry was in her 85th year.  Born at St. George in 1889, she was the oldest daughter of the late J. David and Margaret M. (Monohan) Maxwell.

She was the widow of Harrison B. McKinstry, a former mail carrier in Southbridge, Mass. where they resided for over fifty years.

Mrs. McKinstry was a graduate of the first St. George Superior High School at St. George and of the Provincial Normal School, Fredericton and had taught in several schools in Charlotte County, and later after a post graduate course in the United States taught in that country.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past president of the WSCS of the Church; a member of the Fairview Rebecca Lodge and of the Fairview Noble Grands; a past president of the Rural Mail Carriers Association of the Massachusetts Auxiliary; a past president of the Southbridge Home Makers Club and had been very active in the Sturbridge Visiting Nurse Association.

Surviving are two sons, Philip H. of East Haven, Conn. and William D. of Southbridge; four daughters, Mrs. Harold Piehl, Charlton;  Mrs. Robert Landire, Spencer;  Mrs. Albert Guardiane, Southbridge; and Mrs. Walter Crocker, Framingham;  a number of grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers;  G. Vernon and Douglas A. Maxwell, both of St. George;  four sisters, Mrs. Harold Harwood, Southbridge;  Mrs. Stanley Cheney of Woodstock;  Mrs. Raymond Lockwood, Waltham, Mass and Mrs. Hollis Goss, Bonny River, N. B., a number of nephews and nieces.

The funeral service was held at the Williams Funeral Home in Southbridge with Rev. Prescott E. Grout officiating.

Friends of the family served as pallbearers.

Interment was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge.
