The death of Shirley Helen (Anderson) Smith of Saint John, NB, wife of the late
Morton Smith, occurred on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Saint John Regional
Hospital. Born in St. George, NB, she was a daughter
of the late George and Ethel (Kernighan) Anderson. Shirley was employed
with the Bank of Nova Scotia as a Securities Supervisor until her retirement,
and was a member of Portland United Church, Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority and the United Church Women. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley
“Corinne” (Donald) Cuming of Dorval, Quebec, A. Lynn Morrison of Saint John; one
brother, Robert (Theresa) Anderson of Fredericton, NB; one sister, Alice
(Alonzo) Hall of St. George; three grandchildren, Christopher (Chantel) of
Beaconsfield, Quebec, Gregory Morrison of Halifax, NS, and Jennifer (Tim)
MacIntyre of Burlington, ON; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Riley Morrison, one
great- granddaughter, Marissa MacIntyre, several nieces and nephews. Besides her
husband and parents she was predeceased by two brothers, James and Holmes
Anderson, one sister, Mercedes Mennie, and son-in-law, John Morrrison.
Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John,
NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A
funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from Portland United
Church at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Remembrances
may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Portland United Church or a charity
of the donor’s choice.
