Unexpectedly at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB in the evening of
January 21, 2012, Mr. Ralph A. Magowan husband of Mrs. Burla A. (
Justason)
Magowan of Beaver Harbour NB passed away.
Born at St. George NB on September
10, 1920 he was a son of the late Hazen and Olive (
Mitchell) Magowan. A
loving husband, father and grandfather in addition to his loving wife of 64
years, Burla, he is survived by his daughter, Allegra
Badiali (Magowan);
three grandchildren: Eric Badiali, Robert Badiali and Mary Magowan and by
one great grandchild, Bryce
Green. Ralph was predeceased by one son, Hazen
Magowan.
Ralph was born and raised in St. George NB and spent a great deal of time
with relatives in Campobello NB. He was the valedictorian of his high school
graduation class and received the Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. He attended
UNB in Fredericton but changed directions and joined the Army to serve 6
years overseas in WWII. He returned to complete his B.S. degree, followed by
further education at the University of Toronto. After retirement, Ralph
volunteered at Vocational Plus, reading for the blind and helped at Fundy
Nursing Home. Ralph enjoyed stating his opinions in regular articles written
in the St. Croix Courier. His great loves were books, music and singing. He
loved his church and hated to miss services. He enjoyed sitting with his
wife at their Lake Utopia Cottage, admiring the surroundings. He always
welcomed a great conversation and Ralph’s laugh could be heard around the
world. He will always be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage
Street, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 pm. The service
will be held from the Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield NB on Friday at
2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion
Branch #39 and #40 will be holding a Legion Tribute Service at the funeral
home on Thursday at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of
the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
