MAUDE MARY (MAILLET) (SMITH) FRASER 

               Peacefully, at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB on October 20, 2002, Mrs. Maude Mary (Maillet) (Smith) Fraser of 82 Utopia Road, Utopia, NB, wife of Charles R. Fraser.  Born in Rogersville on September 14, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Teddie and Obeline (Doiron) Maillet.  A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Charlie; three sons, Wally (June) Smith of Utopia; Ronald (Diana) Smith of Rosehill, NB; David (Carol) Smith of Edmonton, AB; one daughter, Janice (Aubrey) Delong of Canterbury, NB; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Richard (Arthur) of Moncton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Maude was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Smith; brothers, John, Amie, Edward, Angus, and Raymond; one sister, Lena and one niece, Marlene Freimanis.

               In her early years, Maude worked at the Moncton Children’s Home in Moncton, NB.  As well as raising her own family, she was also known as “Mom” by her two nephews, William Smith of Calgary, AB; Aubrey Smith of Dartmouth, NS and niece, Gloria Smith of Moncton, NB whom she also raised.  Following her marriage to Charlie in 1962, she looked after the Southard children for a number of years.  She was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church, a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #40, St. George and was a Silver Cross Mother.

               Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB where the family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.  Prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 3 pm.  Branch #40 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct their tribute service on Wednesday at 7 pm.  The funeral will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 11 AM with Rev. Fr. Maurice Swift officiating, followed by interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery.  In Maude’s memory, donations to the Passamaquoddy Lodge Building Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
