Hugh Phillips Obituary-St. George Rural Cemetery Old

52, September 24th, 1924 - There passed away on Saturday, 13th inst., one of
St. George's oldest citizens, Hugh Phillips. He was born at St. George
in 1837 and was a life long resident there. During his lifetime he gained and
held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. Throughout life he
cultivated and practiced those Christian graces which never fail to influence
home and community for good, and the large attendance at his funeral from all
parts bore ample testimony to this.
He was married in June 1863 to Margaret Connacher, who died in 1894 at
the age of sixty years. His second marriage took place October 30, 1895, to
Annie J. Gray. The children to the first marriage were John J. of
Waweig, Henry D., deceased, Georgie Ella, (Mrs. Herbert Harvey) St.
George, Herbert Wesley at home, Frank A. of the granite firm of Philips and
Slack, Vermont, Alice Elizabeth, deceased and Jacob, deceased.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1895 and a member of the St.
George Masonic Lodge since 1888. The funeral service was conducted at the home
by Rev. E.J. Kerr, assisted by Rev. F.J. Leroy and at the grave by the members
of the Masonic Lodge. The pall bearers were Dr. H. I. Taylor, M.P.P. Frank
Chaffey, Anthony Tayte, Saml. Austin, John A. Crickard and James Gray.
