 R.N. 1907 - 2002 Alice Blanche Grace Crickard R.N., 95, formerly of Cornell St. Moncton, passed away at K. E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. Born in St. George, NB on June 1, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander & Margaret Catherine (Sherrard) Crickard. She was a member of St. George's Anglican Church. Miss Crickard was a Registered Nurse having trained and worked her entire career at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal where she had been a supervisor for many years. She is survived by several cousins. Alice was the Last Surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by five sisters, Helena, Dallie, Marian, Agnes and Elsie; one brother, Reginald Crickard. At her request there will be no service at the Funeral Home. A Committal Service will be held at St. George Rural Cemetery, St. George, NB at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Bros. Funeral Home, (506) 857-8564.

HOOPER, MYRTLE HARRIETT - The death of Myrtle Harriett Hooper occurred at the Passamaquoddy Lodge Nursing Home, St. Andrews, NB on November 17, 2002. Born in Back Bay, NB she was the daughter of the late Peter and Lulu (Towers) Hooper. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Frederick Hooper; son, Perry Hooper; great grandson Corey Hooper; sister, Agnes Oliver and brother, Stinson Hooper. She is survived by three sisters, Beulah MacFarlane of Toronto, Goldie Mawhinney of Saint John and Alma Corey of Pennsylvania; one brother, Guilford Hooper of St. Andrews; one daughter-in-law, Alberta Hooper of Bayside; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Resting at MacDonald Select Community Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held 2 pm on Wednesday from the MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Anderson officiating. Interment will take place in the St. George Rural Cemetery. ALLEN, LYDIE MILDRED - Peacefully at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB on November 15, 2002, Mrs. Lydie Mildred (Campbell) Allen, wife of the late Dr. James R. A. Allen of 41 Campbell Hill Road, St. George, NB. Born at L'Etete on July 21, 1911, she was a daughter of the late William and Pearl (Dick) Campbell. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by one son, David (Sandra) of Ottawa, Ontario; one daughter, Rosslyn of St. George, NB; three grandchildren, Glory, Charity, and Skye Bryant; one brother, Steve (Bernice) Campbell of Breadalbane; one sister, Rhoda Palmer of St. Andrews, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lydie was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, sewing and was a great cook. A longtime resident of St. George, she maintained her residence for 87 years. She was a member of the St. George Baptist Church. There will be no visitation by request. A Memorial service will be held at the St. George Baptist Church on Monday at 2 PM followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Passamaquoddy Lodge Alzheimer's Wing or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. HOLT, SADIE PAMELIA

 - Sadie Pamelia Holt passed away peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on October 29, 2002. In her 96th year, Sadie was born in St. George on August 8th, 1906, the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Noble) Lee. She married Leroy Mitchell Holt of Bocabec, NB who predeceased her in 1957. She is survived by two sons, Donnie Holt and wife Carolyn of St. George, NB; Angus Holt and wife Betty of Saint John, NB; one daughter, Helen (Holt) Mowatt and husband Carl of Augusta, Maine; six grandchildren, Jeff Holt and wife, Gladys, Pammie Holt, Robert Holt, Coleen Holt, Carla Mowatt, Andrea Mowatt-Greene and husband Ken; three great grandchildren, Nathan, Jessica and Mallory Holt; one sister, Marion Price and one brother, Jed Lee and wife Myrtle and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Everett and two sisters, Louise and Celia. She was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother and was loved by many friends and family, including her extended family at Fundy Hospital Nursing Home. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB (755-3533) with visiting on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held from the Gary E. GOODEILL, Charles Austin

Peacefully, at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, N.B., on February 1, 1999, Mr. C. Austin Goodeill, in his 98th year, of Lake Utopia, husband of Vivian D. (Hamilton) Goodeill.  Born in St. George, January 24, 1902, he was the son of the late Levi and Elizabeth (Jack) Goodeill.

    He is survived by his wife, Vivian;  one son, Larry and his wife, Donna, of Lepreau;  three daughters, Alice Young and her companion, Hazen Wilcox, of Lake Utopia, Lillian Spinney, of St. George and Frances, Mrs. Blair Thompson, of Bayside;  five grandchildren;  four great-grand-children; two brothers, Joseph Goodeill, of White Horse, Yukon and George Goodeill, of St. Andrews;  several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one sister, Bessie Spinney and three brothers, Roy, Stanley, and Otty.

    Austin was a lifelong resident of Lake Utopia.  He was formerly employed with N.B. Tel and had worked for St. George Pulp and Paper for 35 years.  Austin and Vivian recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

GILLMOR, FAUSTA JANE--At the Saint John General  Hospital on April 14, 1969, Miss Fausta Jane Gillmor of St. George in her 77th year.  Survived by three sisters, one brother, several nieces and nephews.

    Resting at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, until April 15 when the body will be taken to her residence on the St. John Road, St. George, from where the funeral will be held Wednesday with service at 2 p.m.  Interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery.


Laura W. Christie 

Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Charlotte County Hospital, on February 11, 2003, Mrs. Laura (Hatt) Christie, aged 82, passed away. Born at Lake Utopia, NB, she was the daughter of the late Wellington and Ethel (Anderson) Hatt

Laura is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Rod) Krolouski of St. George, NB; 3 sisters, Hilda (Arthur) Christie, Lake Utopia, Alice (Alonzo) Hall of St. George, Marjorie (Malcolm) Moses of Blacks Harbour; three brothers, Arnold (Isabelle) Hatt, Lake Utopia, Aubrey (Marjorie) Hatt of Pennfield, and Sherman (Ellen) Hatt of St. George, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Pearl (Clarence) McHugh, and Edith (Rupert) Kelson.  

A loving mother and sister, a great homemaker, she loved Bingo.  She was a member of St. Marks Anglican Church, St. George, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Granite Chapter #15. 

Resting at St. George Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday 7 – 9 PM, Thursday at 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM.  The service will be held on Friday from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at 2 PM with Rev. Eric Caldwell officiating.  Interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.  An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be held at the St. George Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7 PM.  Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.  Funeral arrangements under the direction of St. George Funeral Home, St. George, NB.

Jed Doren Lee

Peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 23, 2003 at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB, Mr. Jed Doren Lee of St. George, NB, loving husband of Myrtle (Gaudet) Lee. Born in St. George, NB on June 23, 1915, he was a son of the late Harry and Gertrude (Noble) Lee. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jed is survived by five sons, Wayne (Janie), Carl (Diane), John (Debbie), Philip (Connie), and Leonard; two daughters, Linda (Brian) Titus, Nancy (Danny) Henry; fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Price of Oak Haven in St. Stephen; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Ralph and Everett; three sisters, Sadie Holt, Louise Kernighan, and Celia Hoyt. Jed was a veteran of WWII serving overseas for five years. Following the war, he worked for the Department of Transportation as a Bridge Crew foreman for nearly forty years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40, St. George, NB.

By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 2 pm.

In Jed's memory, donations made to the Passamaquoddy Lodge or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Selina Rheta (McInnis) Matthews

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John N.B., on April 4 2003, following a period of failing health, Mrs. Selina Rheta (McInnis) Matthews of Letete N.B., wife of Herbert Matthews.

Born at Lowell Mass., she was daughter of the late Joseph and Selina (Cowdell) McInnis. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Rheta is survived by her husband; one daughter Elaine (Terry) Cooke of Miramichi N.B.; Two grandchildren; Sharon Cooke of Saint John and Stephen (Lissa) Cooke of Miramichi; One great grandson, Christopher; One sister, Marion (Richard) Leslie of St. George NB, and several nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by one brother; Walter McInnis and two sisters; Grace Bigney and Viola Keniston.

A resident of the Letete area, Rheta was an active member of the community. She was a member of the O.E.S. #15 of St. George as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, branch # 40 of St. George.

The family will receive friends at the St. George Funeral Home (755 3533) 26 Portage St., St. George NB, on Sunday from 2PM to 5 PM. A  memorial service will be held on Monday at 3PM  from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, at the funeral home, with Rev. David Haddon officiating. Interment will follow at the St. George Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit; the NB Heart and Stroke or the Canadian Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.


Milton Iona Hatt

Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, on March 29, 2003, Mr. Milton Iona Hatt, husband of the late Josephine (Cook) Hatt of Letang, NB. Born in Letang, NB on December 28, 1913, he was a son of the late Samuel and Ida Mae (Leavitt) Hatt.

Milton is survived by two brothers, Henry Hatt of Letang, Eldon Hatt of Cornwall, Ontario; four sisters, Annie (Allen) Whirty of Old Ridge, NB, Lillian Thorne of Canal, NB, Alberta (Hilton) Hanley of Back Bay, Geraldine Barry of Caithness, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by seven brothers and five sisters.
Milton was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed working in his yard and in his wood shop. At his request, there is no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 3 pm with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 2 pm till service time at the chapel. Interment in the St.George Rural Cemetery. Marvell Anita Matthews

Peacefully, at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB on April 17, 2003, Mrs. Marvell Anita Matthews, 96, of St. George, NB.

Born at Eastport, Maine, on January 21, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Walter Steen and Virgie (Morse) Steen. A loving mother and grandmother, Marvell is survived by 5 grandsons, James, Cleveland, Laurie, Maurice and Vance; 3 granddaughters, Lorraine Cook, Rose Justason, and Lynn Landry; one brother, Dollard (Melva) of Maces Bay; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Dave O. Matthews; one daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Webster Leavitt); 2 grandsons, David and Dennis; 5 brothers, Hollis, Otty, Albert, Fred, and Walter; 6 sisters, Norma, Eve, Marjorie, Virgie, Francina and Mary.

Marvell loved gardening and knitting. She had been a packer at Connors Brothers Ltd. for over 30 years.

Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB (755-3533).  The service will be held at The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Monday at 2:00 pm. Interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery at a later date.  Visiting at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.


Lyman John Bell

Unexpectedly at his residence in Utopia, NB on March 28, 2003, Mr. Lyman John Bell of Utopia. Born in Pleasant Ridge, Charlotte County, NB on July 21, 1928, he was a son of the late Robert and Effie (Noddin) Bell. Lyman is survived by two daughters, Melinda Bell of St. Andrews, Betty Caissie of Minnesota; three grandchildren; one brother, George (Verna) Bell of Beaver Harbour; one sister, Sarah (Mrs. George Wilcox) of Waweig; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by one daughter, Cathy; one brother, Colin Bell; one sister, Norma Bell. Lyman was a heavy equipment operator by trade, and was employed by Fundy construction prior to his retirement.

By request, there will be no visitation. A grave-side service will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery at a later date. Irene Ruby Hatt

               

 

 

    Peacefully, following a brief illness, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on April 30, 2003, Mrs. Irene Ruby (Thompson) Hatt, wife of the late Percy Alexander Hatt, of St. George, NB and Fredericton.

    Born in Bocabec, NB on April 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Steven and Annie (Parker) Thompson of Bocabec.  A loving mother and grandmother, Irene is survived by one daughter, Ruby (Glenn) Henry of Fredericton; one grandson, Shane, one granddaughter, Lisa (Mrs. Gary Kendrick), both of Fredericton; four great-grandchildren, Laura, Cody, Ashlee and Devin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

               She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Wesley and Harold Thompson, and Harold Maxwell.  Irene loved cooking for her family and friends, especially pies.  She loved the outdoors and reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of the St. George United Baptist Church and the Granite Chapter #15 OES, where she was a member for more than 40 years. 

               Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB, from where the  service will be held at The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Saturday at 12 noon, with Rev. Charles Yerxa officiating.  Interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery.  Visiting at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9.  The Granite Chapter #15 of the OES will be holding a tribute service on Friday at 7 pm at the funeral home.  Donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation,  Charlotte County Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

LILA PHYLLIS LEAVITT

  Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, July 1st, 2003, Ms. Lila Phyllis Leavitt, of 182 Princess Street, Saint John, NB. Born in L'Etang, NB on June 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Elisha and Lillah (Hooper) Leavitt. A loving sister and aunt, Lila is survived by one brother, Beverley Leavitt of Letang, NB; two nieces, Rosalind Leavitt of Saint John, NB and Belva (Mrs. Charles Hooper) of Rothesay, NB; two nephews, Dr. Preston Leavitt (Barbara) of Fredericton, NB and Dr. Eugene Leavitt (Dorothy) of Cobble Hill, BC; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; one sister-in-law, Susan Leavitt of Cobble Hill, BC and a dear friend, Irene Stevens of Saint John, NB. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Roland and Sanford; three sisters, Jean Weatherby, Florence Leavitt and Muriel Leavitt. Lila was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending her flowers, and was a former member of St. Marks Anglican Church, St. George, NB.

HENRY JOSEPH MATHESON

L'Etete:

Henry Matheson passed away on October 19 at Fundy Hospital after a long illness.  He was 78. 

Henry was born in St. George on November 9, 1909, son of the late George and Azelda (Bussiere) Matheson.  He was the husband of Marion and father of Elizabeth, Vance, and David.  He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by  one son Ricky, and two brothers.

Before his retirement in 1969, he worked for Connors Bros., Blacks Harbour.  He was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, St. George.

The funeral service was held at the St. George Funeral Home on Oct. 22 with the Rev. Philip Ward officiating.  Ruth Matheson played the organ and sang Just a Closer Walk With Thee.  Pallbearers were Burton Matheson, Bedford Matheson, Wayne Matheson, Mark Matheson, Garnet Matheson, and Al Hooper.

Along with many floral tributes, donations were made to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, Fundy Hospital, L'Etete Christian Church, Hospice of Charlotte, Inc., and the Heart Fund.  Interment took place at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Among those attending the funeral were people from Campobello, Deer Island, St. Andrews, Saint John, Machias, Blacks Harbour, and Fredericton.

LEAVITT - After a brief illness at the Fundy Hospital, Blacks Harbour, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1990, Mildred Marguerite Leavitt, 92, widow of the late Wesley John Leavitt Sr. of St. George, daughter of the late Martin and Lola Bradford; survived by five sons, Wesley of Blacks Harbour, Frank of Fredericton, Keith and Herbert of St. George and Vance of Pennfield; two daughters, Norma Brown of London, Ontario, and Mildred (Tilley) Parks of St. George; one brother, Don of Pennfield; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.   Predeceased by 17 brothers and sisters.
    Rested at the St. George Funeral Home.   Funeral service was held from the Cornerstone Tabernacle, St. George, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Roach officiating.
    Interment in the family lot, St. George Rural Cemetery.
