Phyllis Hortence Buchanan
Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on March 5, 2012, Mrs. Phyllis Hortence Buchanan, wife of the late Mr. Merlin V. Buchanan of Second Falls NB. Born at Second Falls on May 22, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen (Frost) Kinney. A loving mother, grandmother and sister she is survived by her children; Pauline Craig of Bonny River NB, Audrey Noddin of Caithness NB, Neil (Edna) Buchanan of Second Falls NB, Ramona (Lyle) Boyd of Canal NB, Glendon (Kaye) Buchanan of Second Falls NB, Crystal (Dale) Shaw of Utopia NB, Charlotte (Glen) Norman of Second Falls NB, Carol (Gerry) Henry of Bonny River NB, Duane (Ellen) Buchanan of Second Falls NB and Curtis Buchanan (Rose Patterson) of Second Falls NB, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, two brothers; James Kinney of Second Falls NB and Arnold (Bunny) Kinney of L’Etete NB, one sister, Bertha Faloon of Georgia and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Rachael Matthews, one sister, Amelia McKinney and by three grandchildren.

Phyllis spent her life being a loving wife and raising her family. She was an avid outdoorswomen who loved hunting, fishing and spending many seasons at Victoria Lake, where her late husband was a Warden. In these last several years she spent her summers at Island View Campground where she enjoyed many games of Bingo. In her quiet time, Phyllis enjoyed knitting, playing cards, especially 63’s, having a cup of tea and was known to make the best Molasses cookies. She will be sadly missed by her large family and many friends. Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Second Falls United Baptist Church, Second Falls NB.

Resting at the Family Worship Center, Mount Pleasant Road, St. George NB, from where the service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Reg Ward officiating followed by the interment at the Second Falls United Baptist Church Cemetery, Second Falls NB. A reception will be held at the Bonny River Fire Hall, Bonny River NB immediately following the interment. Visiting at the church will take place on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Second Falls United Baptist Church Rebuilding Fund would be appreicated by the family.
