SARAH ISABELLE CRAIG

 

BONNY RIVER—The members of the family, relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Mrs. Sarah Isabelle (Matheson) Craig, which occurred on July 20 at the Saint John Regional Hospital (Central) following a lengthy period of ill health.

            Sixty-six years of age, Mrs Craig was the wife of H. Allison Craig, the youngest daughter of the late Henry and Jessie (Sullivan) Matheson, of Bonny River, Charlotte County where she was born January 4, 1914, and where she had lived all of her life.

            Mrs. Craig was a member of the St. George United Baptist Church, and had always maintained an active interest in all phases of the work and activities of the church.  For a number of years she was an officer in the Sunday School as well as being a teacher in the Sabbath School.  She was a former member of Granite Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star.

            Isabella possessed a kind and friendly nature which endeared her to all with whom she was associated.

            Surviving are her husband, three sons, Donald A. of Bonny River; Vance E. of St. George; and Alan E., of Richmond, B.C.; two daughters, (Eleanor) Mrs. Harvey Dougherty of Lindsay, Ont.; and (Marilyn) Mrs. Merlin Frost Jr. of Bonny River; and nine grandchildren.

            Also surviving are one brother, Thomas S. Matheson of Digby, N. S.; three sisters (Alice) Mrs. Horace S. Stewart, St. George; (Martha) Mrs. Stanley Connor, Daytona Beach, Florida; and (Hester) Mrs. Everett W. Maxwell of St. George.  Surviving as well are a number of nephews and nieces.

            She was predeceased by three brothers, Harry, George B. and H. Earl Matheson.

            The funeral was held from the St. George Funeral Home to the St. George United Baptist Church which was filled to capacity with relatives and friends.

            The service was conducted by two former pastors of the church, Rev. Kenneth M. Hughes of Havelock, and Rev. Clyde A. Hicks of Berry Mills. Sacred music was softly played by Mrs. Ronald Justason.

The pallbearers were Charles V. Davis, Arthur Gillmor, R. Whidden Ganong, John Goss, Melvin Matheson and Douglas Frost.

            Interment was in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the Second Falls United Baptist Church.

            A profusion of beautiful floral tributes were received, as well as many donations made to the memorial fund of the St. George United Baptist Church, as well as donations to various other memorial funds.
