BUCKNAM, Samuel Edgar: He was born June 26, 1831 in
Pennfield, NB to Barnabas C. Bucknam & Elizabeth Hawkins. Served in the
Union Army in the American Civil War. He enlisted at Bath, Sagadahoc, ME with
Co. K of the 19th Maine Inf. as a Cpl. on June 22, 1862. He was honorably
discharged as 2nd Lt. Samuel E Bucknam for disability on Mar 8, 1864, also at
Bath.
He fought in a number of battles during the war, most notably
the Battle of Gettysburg, where he was injured. According to a document in his
file, he "was wounded on the 2nd day of July 1863 at the battle of
Gettysburg in his thigh and was laid with with [sic] said wound until on or
about August 10th, 1863 when he returned to his regiment. He was also taken Sick
with disease of the Stomach and on the 14th day of January 1864 he was granted a
leave of absence for 20 days but did not improve and it was extended 40 days
longer and at that time being no better he was discharged..."
CROSS, Aaron: He was born in Beaver Harbour, NB to Andrew Cross & Margaret Noran. When the Civil War broke out, he was in New Hampshire and enlisted with the Seventh New Hampshire Regiment at the age of 18. He contracted malaria while fighting in the South. Following his discharge, he returned to Calais, ME, and in 1865, married Miss Margaret E. Wyoming. They had two daughters, Margaret L and Ella Mae (Mrs. Frank Holt, St. Stephen). He established a bakery in Calais, ME. In about 1898, he went to the Klondike gold fields and returned about 3 years later. Died in 1908 at the age of 64. He is buried in the Holt Lot in the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
JUSTASON, William: He was born Nov 3, 1828 in Pennfield, NB to Wilmot Justason & Elizabeth Hamilton. He enlisted in Company E of the 6th Maine Volunteer Infantry at Eastport, ME, on May 7, 1861 and was discharged on June 4, 1861. The reason for his short service and his pension application was a hernia that he received when he slipped while trying to put up a new flag pole at Eastport, ME, where he was stationed. Died July 5, 1902 in Pennfield, NB and was buried at Pennfield United Baptist Cemetery.

TATTON, Joseph W: Age 23 when he enlisted with Co. D
of the 1st Maine Cav. on Nov 2, 1861 & was mustered out on Dec 6, 1864.
