Falmouth, Me., June 28?, 1790, came to Pennfield in 1815 since which time he has
been a resident with the exception of one year and a half; left five sons, seven
daughters.

Pennfield (Charlotte Co.) 17th ult., Mrs. Polly HAWKINS, age 80. She made
a profession of religion almost 40 years ago. She was baptized by Thomas ANSLEY
and was one of the first to unite with the Baptist church.

Pennfield (Charlotte Co.) 18th inst., Margaret HOPKINS w/o Rev. William
L. HOPKINS, age 76. She was born in the Parish of Dromar, County Down,
Ireland. At the age of 17 she experienced religion. 22 years ago she was
baptized at Oak Bay, N.B. by Rev. John Francis. Her Rev. husband, affectionate
daughter and the church in Pennfield feel their loss. Her funeral was attended
by Rev. Edward Hickson.

HOPKINS,
Rev. WILLIAM L. who died October 21, 1872, was a native of Ireland. He came
to New Brunswick in 1843, and settled at Pennfield, Charlotte County. He was
then a Methodist, but adopted Baptist principles soon after his arrival, and
joined the Baptist Church in Pennfield. He was ordained in November, 1845. He
preached seven years in St. James, and then returned to Pennfield, and laboured
there successfully as pastor of the Baptist Church for twenty years. His last
illness was short. He preached twice on Lord's day, October 13th, and died, as
stated above, on the 21st, in the 73rd year of his age. "In life, as a
Christian and a pastor, he was beloved by all who knew him. In death he was
deeply lamented."

On Tuesday morn., a son of James CAMPBELL of Mosquito Cove (St. John),
age 10, went into the barn to feed the cow and slipped from the loft floor into
the rack causing, it was supposed, only a slight injury to his side. He went to
school as usual all day but in the eve. was seized with vomiting. About 11
o'clock at night he became delirious and so remained until Wednesday night when
he expired. The fall he had sustained and injured his spine, inducing
inflammation of the brain. The lad will be interred this afternoon in Greenwood
Cemetery, Carleton (St. John).

Barnabus
C. BUCKNAM was born at Falmouth, Maine, 31st October, 1802 and came to
this Province with his parents in 1805, first to Grand Manan (Charlotte Co.)
where his father built four large barques, and in 1807 to Pennfield where he
grew to manhood. He followed the business of his father, milling, ship building
and farming. He was baptized by Rev. S. Robinson on July 14th, 1833 and took a
great interest in the Church. He was many years a trustee of schools and gave
land upon which to erect a school building when more accommodation was required.
It was not until the spring of the present year that he began to fail. A series
of colds caught during his active labors rapidly brought down his strength and
terminated his career on Sunday Sept. 10th, 1882 in his 80th year. He was buried
Tuesday 12 Sept. A sermon was preached by Rev. W.A. Troop. He leaves a widow,
three sons (one in N.Y., one in Ontario, one in Pennfield) and three daughters
(2 residing in Saint John, of whom Mrs. March is one) and one at the family home
in Pennfield.

Loss
of Schr. Eddie Pierce - A telegram was received here last Thursday from
Boston, conveying the sad intelligence that the schooner Eddie Pierce was lost
in the gale of the day before and that Capt. Angus HOLMES, master of the
vessel, has been washed overboard and drowned. The vessel sailed from here
Saturday the 22d ult., for New York, having for cargo 4000 cases of sardines and
a few thousand boxes smoked herring. When 14 miles off Cape Code on
Wednesday, they were caught in the heavy gale of the day, and at noon the
vessel's sails were blown away and a plank sprung from the stern. After trying
to lighten the vessel by throwing over cargo and steady work at the pumps, the
water gained on them so fast that all hopes of keeping the vessel afloat were
soon abandoned. Fortunately a steamer was sighted and a signal of distress was
run up. The steamer proved to be the Bavaria, Capt. Ball, from Liverpool to
Boston. By this time the vessel had filled and rolled over so that the masts
were in the water, and when the steamer's life boat reached them, they were
obliged to crawl out on the vessels spars and thus be taken off. It was just
before the steamer's boat reached them, about 4 o'clock, that Capt. Holmes was
washed overboard by one of the heavy seas that swept the vessel's deck. The
rescued men, Fielding Malloch, mate, and Luke Holmes, seaman, of this town, and
W.E. Miller and Francis Myers of Lubec, were kindly cared for on the steamer,
and to the prompt and skillful efforts of the boat's crew they are indebted for
their lives. The men arrived home on Saturday's steamer from Boston. The
schooner Eddie Pierce was owned by various parties in this town, and was valued
at about $3000. There was no insurance on the vessel but the cargo of sardines
had full insurance. Capt. Angus Holmes was a man fifty years of age and he
leaves a wife and large family, part of whom are grown up. He was a steady,
industrious man, respected by all who knew him, and his sudden death is a hard
blow to the sorrowing family in whose love and welfare he had always taken his
greatest pleasure in life.

Pennfield Centre (Charlotte Co.) July 1, Sarah PRESCOTT, widow of Jesse
Prescott, 93rd year. Our sister was converted and baptized 60 years ago under
the ministry of Rev. Samuel Robinson and continued a member of the Pennfield
Baptist church. Her home was one in thousands. Here lived the mother who
lovingly and faithfully cherished and brought up a noble family. It was here to
watch over and pray for five sons and one daughter from the prating of childhood
until the oldest was in his 70th year. The ages of the five sons, who
sorrowfully accompanied the remains to the grave, taken together is 317 years,
an average of 63 years.

Our
Beaver Harbor correspondent writes: The home of Ezra MUNROE who keeps the
lighthouse on the Southern Wolf was saddened on the 31st by the death of his
daughter, Clara MUNROE, age 21. Mr. Munroe's is the only dwelling on this
island. The funeral will take place Tuesday at Pennfield Baptist church.

Sussex (Kings Co.) Jan. 9th, age 57, Susan PRESCOTT w/o Joshua Prescott,
left husband, five sons. The deceased in early life professed faith in Christ
and united with the Baptist Church at Pennfield of which she continued an active
member until she removed to Sussex (Kings Co.) when she got her letter and
united with the church here. For some years our sister has been in poor health.
Her remains were conveyed to Pennfield, accompanied by the sorrowing family,
where service was conducted by the pastor Wednesday 13th inst.

Pennfield (Charlotte Co.) Jan. 9, Bailey YOUNG, age 87 years 4 mos.
During the last 18 years, since the death of his wife, he has been living with
his only son, although at intervals he spent considerable time with his
daughter, Mrs. PRESCOTT. For more than 60 years he has had assurance of faith in
Jesus, having received his first spiritual impression by Father Ansley in the
vicinity of Beaver Harbor. His only son and one daughter were present at the
last.

Deacon
Enos POOLE, Pennfield (Charlotte Co.) eve. Jan. 3rd. For about a year and
a half he had been laid aside having had an attack of apoplexy in June 1893 from
which he never rallied. Our brother experienced a change of heart quite early in
life and was baptized by Father Magee and joined the Pennfield Baptist Church.
He was clerk of the Pennfield church for many years, but on account of failing
health resigned that office Oct. 1886. The following year he was elected to the
office of deacon and duly ordained. He was twice married. First to Catherine
JUSTASON, July 13th, 1843 and four children survive him from this union: Mrs.
James Skene, Pennfield; Mrs. George Weldon, St. John; Mrs. Charles Spooner,
Princeton, Me. and Samuel Poole, Pennfield. After the death of his first wife he
remained single seven years, when he was united in marriage to Hannah E. Scott
of Eastport, Me., March 24th, 1859. By this union four children were given them,
three sons and one daughter. One of these sons is married and living in Boston.
Another married deacon Hughes' daughter and lives with his father-in-law in St.
Stephen. The daughter and other son are at the old homestead with their widowed
mother. His children, with one exception, are all members of the Baptist
churches.

saddened Thursday, 24th inst., by the sudden death of Mrs. George HUTTON.

Beaver
Harbour - On the last day of the Old Year occurred the death of Mrs. Mary HOLMES
in the eighty-eighth year of her age. Deceased was the relic of Lewis Holmes who
died 27 years ago. She is survived by 10 children, 3 sons, and 7 daughters, 37
grand-children and 38 great-grandchildren. The sons are Lewis, Andrew and Thomas
all residing here, and the daughters are Mrs. David Eldridge and Mrs. Edgerton
of this place; Mrs. M.C. Holmes and Mrs. Sam'l Wood of Eastport, Me., and Mrs.
Charles Farrin, Mrs. Frank Farrin and Mrs. Orlando Bowman of Pemaquid, ME.
She is also survived by two sisters and one brother. The
elder of the sisters, Mrs. Parker of Halls Harbour, N.S. has now passed her
hundredth birthday. The younger sister is Mrs. Nash of Campobello and the
brother, Geo. Cross of Vancouver, B.C.
Mrs. Holmes was in good health until a few days before her
death. Her jovial disposition made her beloved by young and old for she did not
seem to grow old. She will be much missed, both in the home and the entire
community. A kind Christian mother, a loving neighbor and friend is gone
forever.
The funeral services were conducted from the Pennfield
Baptist Church by Rev. I.N. Thorne assisted by Rev. T.M. Munro. The floral
tributes were many and beautiful, and the long funeral procession attested to
the esteem of the community for deceased.
FUNERAL
SERVICE FOR CLYDE KENNEDY VERY LARGELY ATTENDED - Sixteen Year Old Victim of
Martinon Accident Laid to Rest by Sorrowing Chums in Pennfield Cemetery - Beaver
Harbour, Aug. 21 - The funeral service for Clyde Kennedy, 16-year-old son of
Mrs. Pethra Kennedy and the late Medley Kennedy was held on Tuesday afternoon
Aug. 17.
He was a victim of the terrible accident at Martinon last
Saturday when he and three companions were electrocuted as the well digging
machine with which they were working came in contact with live wires.
A brief service was held at the home where the body had
rested since Monday afternoon, after which the cortege proceeded to Pennfield
Baptist Church, where a service was held. Rev. H.A. Westrup, the family pastor,
officiated. The choir rendered several selections, including "No Night
There" and "Good Night and Good Morning" and Mrs. Hilbert Paul of
Woodland, Me., sang the solo, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Pall
bearers were young friends of the deceased lad. Interment was made his father in
the Pennfield Cemetery.
Until his going away only three weeks before, to work with
his uncle in the well drilling business Clyde had attended school here and the
entire community was dreadfully shocked to learn of the grim tragedy that
claimed his young life.
The Kennedy home was a profusion of flowers offering sympathy
to the bereaved family. Among the floral pieces were tributes from the Beaver
Harbour School children, the Sunday school, the Martinon Country Club, the
nursing staff of Chipman Memorial Hospital, and nurses in training at Chipman
Memorial Hospital, Packers of the Beaver Harbour Canning Co. and others.

YOUNG,
GEORGE ALFRED - St. George, Dec. 31 - The funeral of George Young, 60, who
was killed instantly Christmas Eve when struck by a truck at Pennfield, was held
Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of George McKay, Pennfield Ridge,
to the Baptist Church, Pennfield, and was largely attended. The service at the
house was conducted by Rev. H.A. Westrup. Interment took place in the Baptist
Cemetery. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. The pall-bearers were
Clarence A. Munro, Samuel McKay, Norman McDowell, O.E. Woods, Councilor A.B.
Hawkins and Rupert Hawkins. Members of the immediate family attended including
Mrs. Beryn Bradford, of New York, a sister of Mr. Young.

McDOWELL,
WILDA DAWN - Pennfield, Feb. 27 - The death of Wilda Dawn, aged 7 months, 23
days, occurred at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McDowell (nee
Gertrude Maxwell) on Sunday evening, February 18th.
She had been a delicate baby, yet during the past month or
so, had gained rapidly, but she contracted a heavy cold and in a few days time
complications developed which caused her death.
Besides her parents she left a sister, Marianne, and a
brother, Lyle.
The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at her parent's
home, conducted by Rev. H.A. Westrup, pastor of the Baptist church. Hymns used
at the service were, "Jewels", "Hope for Little Children",
and Mrs. Westrup sang a solo, "I Think When I Read that Sweet Story of
Old." The pallbearers were, James O'Brien, Boyd Munroe, Alfred Hawkins and
Raymond Hawkins.
Interment was made in the Baptist cemetery, Pennfield.

McDOWELL, WILDA DAWN

HOLMES,
BEULAH GERTRUDE - Beaver Harbour, Nov. 19 - This community was again
saddened on Saturday when it became known that Beulah Holmes, younger daughter
of Harold and Evelyn (Boyd) Holmes, had passed away. She was nine years and four
months old and though in delicate health during her brief life she was a bright
child and possessed a loving disposition. Her death occurred quite suddenly on
Saturday evening about nine o'clock.
Besides her parents she left a sister, Ruth, aged 12 years,
and the family have the sympathy of the entire community in their loss.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 and was
conducted by Rev. H.A. Westrup, pastor of the Baptist Church, assisted by a
choir who rendered the following selections, "The Old Rugged Cross",
and "Jewels", which were favorites of Beulah's and "There's a
Home for Little Children". Following the service at her parents' home the,
cortege moved along to Pennfield where interment was made in the Baptist
Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Franklin O'Brien, Norval Eldridge, Clifton
Wadlin and Lewis Wright.
The floral tributes were numerous and very beautiful. Among
them were cut flowers from the Beaver Harbour school children, and set pieces
from Connors Bros. and members of the firm where Mr. Holmes is employed.

VICKERY,
LAWRENCE FRANK - Pennfield, June 30 - The sympathy of the community is extended to
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vickery and family in the death of their youngest son,
Lawrence, who died on Tuesday, June 24. He was 23 years old April 25, and was
liked by all who knew him, especially among the young folk where Lawrence and
his guitar were very popular.
Besides his parents he is survived by Leslie Vickery of this
place, Mrs. Ashton Wilcox of Black's Harbour, Adelbert Trynor of Mace's Bay,
George Trynor of Jonesport, Me., and Mrs. Burton Scovil of Lubec, Me., and many
other relatives.
Funeral service was held at his late residence on Thursday
afternoon and was conducted by Rev. H.A. Westrup. A quartette sang the hymn
"Going Down the Valley", that Lawrence sang very often, besides
"The City Four Square" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus".
Interment was in the Baptist Church Cemetery. Pall-bearers were four of his
young friends, John Armstrong, Aubrey Hatt, Chandler Justason and Clayton Hill.

CHARLES FREDERICK "Fred" - The death of Charles Fred
Gillespie occurred at his home at Pennfield Ridge on March 24, after a brief
illness of one week. A.
Beecher Hawkins Passes At Pennfield After Heart Attack The death of A. Beecher
Hawkins, of Pennfield, for many years a valued member of the Charlotte County
Council, occurred at his home in Pennfield Monday evening, June 26, after an
illness of only a few hours. He was aged 74 years. A. B. Hawkins Funeral The funeral of A. Beecher Hawkins took place at Pennfield on Thursday and was attended by a large representation of the residents of the county, many from Saint John and other

- Pennfield, Jan. 12 - Word was received here this morning by the relatives and friends of the death of Miss Annie Justason at the Chipman Memorial Hospital late Friday evening. Although in poor health for some time her passing
was a shock to the community. Born at Pennfield 83 years ago Miss Justason was the daughter of the late Deacon and Mrs. William Justason, and is survived by one brother, W.S.R. Justason. Several brothers and sisters predeceased
her in the past years. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gillespie, who was a farmer, was 58 years old and had
always lived in Pennfield where he had many friends. He was a member of the
Pennfield Baptist Church.
Besides his wife, who was formerly Miss Gertrude Leland, he
is survived by two sons, Ritchie and Jesse, and one daughter, Mary, all at home.
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. W. Randall. Pall-bearers were
Samuel McKay, George McKay, Foster Quigley, and Merrill Woodbury. Hymns sung
were "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." Interment at the
Pennfield Cemetery.

Prominent Citizen Was Veteran Of County Council And Active In
Many Groups
He had eaten his midday meal as usual and was about the farmstead
until about 2 o'clock, when he was stricken with a heart seizure and lapsed into
semi-consciousness from which he failed to recover. Death occurred shortly after
7 o'clock that evening.
Mr. Hawkins was a former warden and a veteran of nearly 40
years in the County Council, where his judgment was highly respected and had
also been active for nearly half a century in the Liberal Party. A
public-spirited citizen, he was prominent in community services and had been
associated in recent years with the A.R.P., the Children's Aid Society, the
County Board of Trade and other progressive organizations. His position in his
community made him a key figure in any such undertakings, and he lent valuable
assistance to all of them. A keen follower of sports, he took great interest in
the development of community spirit by this medium. Personally he continued
alert in mind and body despite the advancing years. His duties included overseer
of the poor and sub-deputy register of vital statistics, and fraternally he was
a member of the Orange Order.
Besides his farming activities he had for years harvested
large crops of cultivated blueberries, most of which were exported to New York
and other U.S. centres, and through careful selection and packaging a keen
demand for Pennfield blueberries was built up.
A son of the Caleb T. and Margaret (Hopkins) Hawkins, he is
survived by his wife, formerly Charlotte G.Thompson, daughter of Capt. James and
the late Mrs. Thompson, Chance Harbor, five sons, Charles A., proprietor of the
Pennfield Corner store; James A., on the office staff of Noorthryn Aircraft
Corporation, Montreal; L.A.C. Alfred H., at the R.C.A.F. Pennfield depot; Arthur
B., at home; and L/Bdr. George J.P., now in France; and three daughters, Mrs.
William Southard, St. George; Mrs. James R. O'Brien, Pennfield, and Mrs. Jack H.
Golding. There are also ten grandchildren.

The Charlotte County Council was represented by Herman Morrell, warden, a position which the late Mr. Hawkins had held in previous years. Among others present were E.A. Shaw, Robert Akerley, Frank L. Mallory, county
secretary, Charles Mallory, St. Andrews, High Sheriff of Charlotte County, and Hon. J.J. Hayes Doone, provincial secretary-treasurer. Pall-bearers were Raymond Hawkins, Samuel A. MacKay, Rupert G. Hawkins, E.O. Woods, Ernest
Hawkins and Clarence Munro. Floral tributes included those of King Edward L.O.L. No.92, which lodge, in regalia, formed a processional escort and conducted a ceremonial of committal in the graveyard adjoining the church, and set
pieces and cut flowers from the Charlotte County Council, church organizations and others.
Rev. Mr. Randall of the church service made appreciative reference to the late Councillor Hawkins' gratuitous and service to the county in past years and his support of all community welfare activities. A male
trio rendered the hymns.

Mr. Borthwick was born September 20, 1874, in Pennfield, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Chadbourn) Borthwick, where he grew to manhood. When a young man he went to Lewiston, Maine, where he was employed by
the late Donald Woodworth as salesman for 27 years. He was a member of Tranquil Lodge of the Masonic Order of Auburn, Maine. He was highly respected by all who knew him. Due to ill health he returned to Pennfield nine years ago.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Mrs. Viola Borthwick; one brother, John Borthwick; and two sisters, Mrs. John Little and Mrs. Mary Justason, all of Pennfield; also several nephews and nieces.
Prayers were said at his home and services were held in the Baptist Church, of which he was a member, by Rev. William Randall. Three favorite hymns, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul,", "Nearer My God to
Thee," and "Rock of Ages" were sung by the pastor and Mrs. Randall.
The Masons attended in a body and interment was made in the local cemetery.

A daughter of the late William and Charlotte Shaw, she was in her 79th year, and a life-long resident of Pennfield. A faithful member of the Baptist Church, she was loved and respected by all.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lottie Murray and Mrs. Norman McDowell, of Pennfield, and Mrs. M.L. McRae, of Craiglands, Sask.; one son, Roy, of Pennfield; one sister, Miss
Gertrude Shaw, of Boston; one brother, Charles Shaw, of Centreville, N.S.; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. William Randall. Pall-bearers were three grandsons, Ross Murray, Pte. Blair Murray, and F/Sgt. Bernard Justason, and
Norman McDowell, Walter Chamberlin, and John Stewart.

He was united in marriage in 1897 to Lillian McQuade, daughter of the late Hugh and Mary McQuade. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter and four sons, Mrs. Arthur Lee, Bonney River; Albert, St.
George; Prescott, Black's Harbour; and Judson and Harold, of Pennfield; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Clarke, Lubec, and Mrs. Sewell, Whiting, Me., and also 14 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at his home to the Pennfield Baptist church, Tuesday afternoon, March 13, conducted by Rev. William Randall, the pastor. Favorite hymns were sung, and a duet, "No Night
There", by Rev. and Mrs. Randall. The pall-bearers, members of the Orange Lodge, were Enos Justason, Clarence Munro, Merrill Woodbury, Robert Akerley, Sandy Holland and Edward Wasson,. Floral offerings were numerous and
beautiful, including one from Connors Bros. store staff, and the L.O.L. Interment was made in the Pennfield Baptist cemetery.

Born at Pennfield in 1879, she was before her marriage Miss Amy Edith Justason, daughter of William and the late Relesa Justason. Besides her husbands she leaves to mourn two sons, Victor, at home, and Stanley,

Known to young and old about the community as Miss Annie she took an active part in all church and Sunday school matters, missionary work and the ladies sewing circle. For a number of years she was superintendent
of the Sunday school as well as Sunday school teacher, and superintendent of the Cradle Roll, and her passing will leave a place in church work that will be hard to fill
The funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon by the pastor of the church, Rev. William Randall. Mr. and Mrs. Randall sang a duet and a quartet by Mr. and Mrs. Randall, Mrs. Judson Justason, Jr.
and Austin Munro, and a solo by Rev. William Randall. Pall-bearers were Aubrey Hatt, Angus Justason, Joseph Justason and Charles Hawkins. Those attending the funeral from outside points were Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Conley, Mr. and Mrs.

W.S.R. Justason Dies At Pennfield After Brief Illness
Widely Known Business Man, Long Prominent In Church and Community, Nearing 74th Birthday
Pennfield, Aug. 21 - The death of William Somerville Robertson Justason occurred at his home here Monday afternoon, Aug. 19m after a month's illness.
Of Loyalist descent, Mr. Justason was the son of the late Mary E. (Chaffey) Justason and William H. Justason, of Pennfield. He was born here Aug. 24, 1872.
A lifelong resident of Pennfield, Mr. Justason was a man of sterling qualities and took a keen and active interest in community welfare. He was well known and highly respected throughout the Province.
For more than 30 years he owned and operated a grocery and general store at Pennfield Corner and was also postmaster for the district for a lengthy period. A member of the Pennfield United Baptist Church, he was
a deacon for 50 years as were his father and grandfather, who was a pioneer founder of the church here, in politics he was a Liberal.
The last of a large family, Mrs. Justason is survived by his wife, the former Susie Knight Prescott of Pennfield, and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with service in the United Baptist Church here, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.L. Randall.

- Pennfield, Jan.1 - The community was saddened on Dec. 29, when the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Windsor Justason closed a young life very suddenly.
The funeral was held from the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Justason on Tuesday last, and was largely attended. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Randall, pastor of the Pennfield Baptist
Church. Bearers were Aubrey Hatt, Harley Hatt, Robert Anderson and Chandler Justason. Hymns sung were "Jesus Loves Me" and "Precious Jewels". Interment was in the Baptist Cemetery.

HELD FOR MISHAP VICTIMS - Funeral services for two of the three victims of a
traffic accident here Friday morning were held yesterday afternoon. Linda WASSON,
15, of Pennfield and Randall McLaughlin, 16, of Blacks Harbour, died as a result
of injuries received when the car in which they were passengers struck a
culvert.
Service for Miss Wasson was conducted in Pennfield United
Baptist Church by Rev. William L Randall, of Harvey Station. Pallbearers were
Dyrlin Justason and Aubrey Hatt, both of Pennfield, and uncles William Wasson,
Advocate, NS, Clifton Wasson, Elmsdale, NS, Arlie and Trueman Wasson, both of
Truro, NS. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Service for Mr. McLaughlin was conducted from the
Reformed Baptist Church, Blacks Harbour, by the pastor Rev. William Morgan,
assisted by Rev. Arthur McElroy, pastor of United Pentecostal Church.
Pallbearers were Alvin Stewart, Blacks Harbour, and cousins Austin and Elwood
Merrill, Blacks Harbour, Jarvis Wilson, Honeydale, Wilfred McLaughlin, Halifax,
and Raymond Morrow, Oak Bay. Interment was in the Community Cemetery.
Funeral service for Gerald Leavitt, 16, who was driver of the
car, will be held this afternoon from Calvary United Baptist Church here. He was
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Watson Leavitt, Blacks Harbour.
An inquest into the mishap will be conducted by coroner Dr. R
D Smith, of St. George, at 7 pm, Tuesday in the Blacks Harbour fire hall.

ULMONT ARTHUR "Benney" - Pocologan Man Dies in Hospital - Pocologan - The
funeral of Ulmont A. (Benney) Williams was held from the residence to the
Pocologan United Baptist Church with Rev. L.B. Estabrooks officiating, assisted
by Lic. Donald Craig.
Bearers were Gorden Powell, Arnold Haggerty, Arnold Mitchell,
Ronald Spear, Ken Justason, and Charles Farquharson.
Interment was in the Pennfield United Baptist Cemetery.
Mr. William's death occurred at the Fundy Hospital, Black's
Harbour, after a short illness. He was 57.
Born at Halderville, N.B. in 1910, he was the son of the late
Edward and Ida (Lasquie) Williams. At the age of seven he moved to Pocologan
with his family where he resided until the time of his death. Of a quiet,
unassuming nature, he had many friends.
He was a fisherman, employed by Shaw and Ellis Ltd. for a
number of years. He was a member of the Pocologan United Baptist Church.
Surviving are; his wife, the former Doris Justason of
Pennfield; one daughter, Mrs. Donald Waugh of Lakewood Heights; one son, Arthur
E. Williams, at home; one sister, Mrs. Everett Haggerty, Pocologan; two
half-sisters, Mrs. Raymond Cameron of Pocologan, and Mrs. Earl Watson, Black's
Harbour; two half-brothers, Russell Shaw, Saint John West, and William Shaw of
Guelph, Ontario; several nieces and nephews; two aunts, Mrs. Alice Beldin,
Sommerville, Mass., and Mrs. Harry Clark, Hampton; and one uncle, Hal H. Lasquie,
Memet, Cal.
Many floral tributes were received.
Relatives attending from a distance were his half-brother,
William Shaw and cousin, Mrs. Pat Candeliere, East Boston.

Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the United Baptist

Mrs. McDowell's death occurred unexpectedly at the Charlotte
County Hospital, St. Stephen following a period of ill health.
The former Evelyn Viola Justason, she was born April 11,
1899, a daughter of the later Walter D. and Nellie May (Jack) Justason at
Pennfield. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Pennfield.
Mrs. McDowell was twice married, her first husband the late
Raymond Hunter, Pennfield died 55 years ago, and her second husband, the later
Robert J. McDowell died in 1964. A son, Keith Hunter, died several years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hollis K. Justason, Black's
Harbour and Mrs. Barry Roberts, Duncan, B.C. Several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Also three brothers, Joseph E., Dyrlin C. and Vincent C.
Justason all of Pennfield. A sister Mrs. William Redstone of McAdam, several
nephews and nieces.

JOSHUA P. JUSTASON - Pennfield - The death of Mrs. Lillian Josephine
Justason, widow of Joshua P. Justason occurred at the Fundy Hospital, Black's

In her 100th year, Mrs. Justason was a daughter of
the late Hugh and Mary Jane (Cross) McQuade, and was born July 27, 1875 at
Pennfield., Charlotte County where she had resided all her life. Her husband
died in 1944.
Mrs. Justason was a member of the Pennfield United Baptist
Church and during her earlier years was active in the Women's organizations of
the Church.
Surviving are a son, Judson S. Justason, Jr. of Pennfield; a
daughter, Mrs. Arthur B Lee Sr. of Bonny River, several grandchildren and a
great-great-granddaughter Tammy J. Lee of Moncton, several nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held from the St. George Funeral Home to the
United Baptist Church, Pennfield where the service was conducted by the Pastor,
Lic. Ronald E. Curtis, Assisting was Lic. Robert M. Johnson.
Pallbearers were Arthur E. Lee Jr., Sheldon A. Lee, Neil and
Howard Justason, Paul Ukrainetz and Ralph Magowan.
Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the Church.

B. JUSTASON - The death of Joseph B. Justason occurred at the Fundy
Hospital, Black's Harbour on October 18, 1978 in his 88th year.
Born in Pennfield, he was the son of the late Ezra and
Margaret (Doone) Justason. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Mennie), one
daughter, Heather (Mrs. Douglas Hatt) of Back Bay, one grandson, Jason Hatt, one
brother Elmer of Pennfield and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Pennfield United Baptist Church. In
his earlier years he worked at fishing and farming.
The body rested at the St. George Funeral Home until Saturday
when the service was held at the Pennfield United Baptist Church with Rev. Fred
Gay officiating. There were many floral tributes as well as memoriams to
charitable organizations.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were from Saint
John and Montreal.

GARY - Relatives and friends were shocked to learn of the tragic accident
which claimed the life of Gary Leroy O'Neill in his fortieth year. The
snowmobile accident occurred at Rockhill Park in Barrie, Ontario.
Gary was born in Beaver Harbour on August 27,1940. He
attended Pennfield Public School and E.C.R.S. in St.George.
He moved to Toronto with his wife Cora (nee Lawton) where
they resided at 2 Holland Park Avenue at the time of his death. He was a foreman
at Canada Packers Ltd.
Gary had a friendly manner with everyone and loved both
winter and summer outdoor sports.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Cora; one son Danny; two
daughters, Linda and Laura; two brothers, Jack of Brampton, Ontario, and Kenneth
of Toronto, Ontario; three sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Rogers and Mrs. Bonnee Vanags,
both of Toronto, Ont. and Charlene of Pennfield, mother Nina O'Neill of Beaver
Harbour and father, Mr. John O'Neill of Pocologan. Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Brown's Funeral Home, Dufferin
and Eglinton, Toronto. A memorial service was held in the United Baptist Church.
His immediate family were present. Both services were widely attended.
Rev. F. Gay officiated. Interment was in the Pennfield
Baptist cemetery.

CHANDLER C. A. - Pennfield - Many relatives of Chandler Council Alexander
Justason were saddened to learn of his death which occurred on Oct. 2 at the Dr.
Vernon Snow Nursing Home at Hampton, where he had been a patient for the past
three years.
In his 84th year, he was the son of late Angus M. and Mary A.
(Justason) Justason, born April 12, 1905 at Pennfield, where he spent most of
his life.
He was a faithful and active member of the Pennfield United
Baptist Church where he served as an usher for 55 years, as well as being a
member of the Board of Trustees of the Church for several years.
Over the years, while his health permitted, he was engaged in
weir fishing in the L'Etang River area.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mable Holmes, formerly of
L'Etete; his son Aubrey W. Justason of Norfolk, NY; one daughter, Eudora (Mrs.
Harley Hatt) of Pennfield; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one
sister, Katherine, Mrs. Maynard K. Campbell, Pennfield; several nephews, nieces
and cousins.
The funeral was held at the St. George Funeral Home at St.
George and the Pennfield United Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Glenn A.
Gray officiating.
Two solos were rendered by Mrs. Brenda Gay, Because He
Lives and Some Golden Daybreak with Mrs. Albert Cowie of Oak Bay as
organist.
Four grandsons served as pallbearers - Larry J. Hatt, Gregory
A. Hatt, Timothy R. Hatt and Edward V. Phillips, and two cousins, Wayne and
Gilbert Hooper.
Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Beautiful floral tributes were received and many donations
made to the various memorial funds - given in Chandler's memory.
Among the many attending the funeral were those from Norfolk,
NY; Fredericton; L'Etang; St. George; Back Bay and other communities of the

occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Pennfield on Feb. 15, 1906. She was a member of a
family of nine children of the late Gilbert and Lillian (Hatt) Justason.
She left Pennfield at the age of 20 to live and work in the
U.S.A. where she was married to the late Perley Rines.
Surviving is one son, Gilbert and predeceased daughter
Lillian both of Massachusetts.
Later she married the late James Emo. Surviving is one son,
James of Salem, Mass. She is survived by four sisters, Margaret Grant of
Beverly, Mass., Helen Baker, Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen and Myrtle Shaw of
Florenceville, and Leona Justason of Pennfield; 10 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren.
The wake was at the St. George Funeral Home until the service
was held at the United Baptist Church, Pennfield with Rev. Glenn Gray conducting
the service.
The hymn Beyond the Sunset and Son Go Bring My
Children Home was sung by Nadine Cooke of Back Bay.
Miss Nancy Justason was organist and the twenty third Psalm
was sung by Nancy and Rev. Gray.
The pallbearers were the four grandsons, Warren and Eric
Rines, and William and Barry Justason, Ronald McGee and Richard Stewart.
Interment was in the Baptist Church Cemetery. Many beautiful
floral tributes were received as well as a number of memorial donations to the
church building funds and Cancer Society. Relatives and friends attending the
funeral were from Salem and Middleton, Mass., Florenceville, N.B. and Saint John
and all nearby communities.

Gertrude Annie (Maxwell) McDowell, widow of Thomas M. McDowell, of Pennfield;
survived by one son, Lyle McDowell and one daughter, Marie Ann Wiezel both of
Fredericton; one sister, Ada Tracy of McAdam; five grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

1991, Mrs. Hilda (Eldridge) Justason (age 60 years) of Norfolk, New York,
daughter of the late Oscar and Mildred (Cross) Eldridge. Mrs. Justason was a
retired Office Manager of Barrett Paving Material Company Ltd., of Norfolk, New
York; survived by one daughter, Cindy (Mrs. Edward Clary) of Norfolk, New York,
one brother, Gilbert Eldridge of Beaver Harbour, two sisters, Juanita (Mrs.
Leverett Bates) and Myrtle (Mrs. Grover Ralston) both of Beaver Harbour and
several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation at the request of the family. The
funeral service will be held at the Pennfield United Baptist Church on Monday at
2 p.m. with Rev. Glen Gray officiating. Interment in the Pennfield Baptist
Cemetery, Pennfield, N.B. St. George Funeral Home in care of funeral

- At the Fundy Hospital, Black's Harbour, on September 19, 1992, Arnold M.
Alexander of St. George in his 92nd year, husband of the late Mabel (Hawkins)
and Ella (Armstrong) Alexander; survived by one son, Alan of Enfield, Nova
Scotia, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Richardson and Miss Dorothy Alexander, both of
Central Blissville, and Mrs. Jane Cross of St. Andrews, five grandchildren, Mrs.
Susan McGee of St. Stephen, James Alexander of London, Ontario, David Alexander
of Whistler, British Columbia, Miss Mary Ellen Alexander and Miss Joanne
Alexander, both of Scarborough, Ontario, three great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son, James, and four brothers, Frank,
Hazen, Ralph and Raymond.

ALEXANDER, ARNOLD M. -
One of the oldest and highly respected citizens of our town, Arnold Miller
Alexander, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Fundy Hospital, Blacks Harbour,
following a lengthy period of poor health.
He was born March 12, 1901 at Fredericton Junction, a son of
the late Sterling and Amanda (Miller) Alexander.
He attended the local schools in that community, worked with
the Canadian Pacific Railway at Fredericton Junction for a time, then later with
the Winterport in Saint John.
In 1923 he came to St. George where he has since resided.
Making his home at first with his uncle, the late Dr. C. C. Alexander, employed
with him for several years as an office boy and his chauffer.
In later years he was employed with Milne Coutts General
Grocery and Feed Store.
During this time he carried on an extensive farming and
marketing operation, dealing with potatoes and other garden produce. As well as
blueberries and cranberries. During the winter months he was employed at the St.
George Pulp and Paper Mill until it closed operation in 1967.
Arnold was a member of the St. George United Baptist Church
in which he maintained an active interest while his health permitted. Having a
strong musical talent, he was a member of the former male chorus club of the
church and a member of one of the earlier St. George bands.
Fond of hunting and fishing, he also served as a guide with
the late guider, Jack Armstrong, St. George.
Twice married, his first wife was the late Mabel Hawkins,
formerly of Pennfield and the second being the late Ella Armstrong of Pennfield.
Over the years Helen Frye of Back Bay was a good family
friend of Arnold and his family.
Survivors include his son, Alan C.; daughters-in-law, Irene
Alexander of Enfield, N.S. and Mrs. James Alexander Sr. of Scarboro, ON; five
grand children, Susan McGee, St. Stephen, James Alexander Jr., London, ON, David
Alexander, Whistler, B.C., Mary Ellan and Joanne Alexander, both of Scarboro,
ON; four great grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Richardson and
Miss Dorothy Alexander of Central Blissville, and Mrs. Jean Cross of St.
Andrews; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, James, and four brothers, Hazen,
Frank, Ralph and Raymond Alexander.
The funeral service was held in the United Baptist Church
with the pastor Rev. Jonathan P. Steeper officiating.
An euology, a very fitting tribute, expressing love and
admiration of his grandfather was delivered by James Alexander of London, ON.
A solo, It Is Well With My Soul was sung by
granddaughter, Susan McGee of St. Stephen. The hymn In The Garden was
rendered by members of the church choir and the congregational hymn was My
Faith Looks Up To Thee. The organist was Mrs. Elaine Gordon and pianist was
Mrs. Rosemond Guptill.
The pallbearers were George (Geoy) Hawkins, Beecher Hawkins,
Fred MacKillop Jr., Clarence French, Stuart Hawkins and William Southard.
Interment was in the Cemetery of the United Baptist Church at
Pennfield.
Beautiful floral tributes were received and a number of
donations were made to various memorial funds including the Fundy Hospital
"Seniors Home."
Following the graveside service an informal reception was
held for the immediate family and relatives in the lounge of the St. George
United Baptist Church.
Attending the service were those from Nova Scotia, St.
Stephen, London and Scarboro, ON, Fredericton Junction, Central Blissville, St.
Andrews, Beaver Harbour, Fredericton, Pennfield and Saint John.

- At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, N.B. on December 4, 1992, Mr. Harold
Taylor Holmes, in his 89th year, of Beaver Harbour, husband of the late Evelyn
Saunders Boyd; survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Steele, of Beaver Harbour,
one sister, Mrs. Myrtle M. Roper, of Prince Rupert, B.C., and several nieces and
nephews.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St.
George. Cremation in Saint John, N.B. at Fernhill Crematorium. Memorial service
was held on December 8, 1992, at 2:30 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment in
the Pennfield United Baptist Cemetery.

(Justason) Baker, wife of the late George Joseph Baker; survived by one
daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Clarence Penny) of Saugas, Mass.; thee sisters, Mrs.
Margaret Grant of Beverly, Mass., Mrs. Myrtle Shaw of Woodstock, N.B. and Mrs.
Leona Justason of Pennfield; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;

DeWITT, GEORGE E. -
George Edward DeWitt jr. passed away at the Charlotte County Hospital Dec. 13,
1993.
George was born Nov. 28, 1928, the son of the late George E.,
and Regina (Gullison) DeWitt. George grew up in McAdam, in a family of seven
children. He was an avid sports fan. In his youth he played both hockey and
baseball. In the later years he stayed involved in both sports as a coach. He
coached teams in both Blacks Harbour and McAdam.
George was a truck driver for many years. He drove a mail
truck, between McAdam and St. Andrews for Paul Woodcock. He drove an oil truck
for both Imperial (Esso) and Irving Oil. He also drove a gravel truck for Earl
Grieves.
In 1962, George took his family to Blacks Harbour where he
worked for Connors Bros. for many years.
On April 12, 1993, George suffered a stroke which left him
paralyzed. But he didn't let that stop him, as he fought back and learned to
walk again. Over the next few months he enjoyed many outings with his family.
George is survived by his wife Brenda (Seeley) DeWitt. George
was a loving father to six daughters; Mrs. Edward Guitard (Terri); Mrs.
Samuel Whittier (Betty); Mrs. Manuel Legacy (Tammy); Freda DeWitt; Kim
DeWitt, all of St. Stephen; and Mrs. Brian Tatton (Greta) of St. George.
He is also survived by three sons; Richmond DeWitt of St.
Stephen; Roger DeWitt and Jody DeWitt, both of Newfoundland; three step-daughters,
Cindy Legacy of St. Stephen; Tammy Dickenson of McAdam and Angela Legacy of
Alberta; four step-sons Joey Legacy of McAdam, Guy Legacy of St. Stephen, Ricky
Legacy of St. Stephen and Jeff Legacy of Jacquet River; two brothers, Bill
DeWitt of McAdam, Fred DeWitt of McAdam; and two sisters, Gene McLaughlin of St.
Stephen and Annie McDonald of McAdam.
George was a loving grandfather to 23 grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
George was pre-deceased by his first wife Georgina Mavis (McVicar),
his brother, Horace DeWitt , his sister, Rita (DeWitt) Varney and grandson,
Charles Justason.

Campbell of Pennfield, husband of Katherine Margaret (Justason) Campbell, son of

Joan (Mrs. Frank Wallace) of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Brian and wife
Carol Wallace of Fredericton, Brenda and husband Gregg Wilson of Fredericton,
Beth of Fredericton and Brent of Halifax; one niece, Ida Mae Coates of Saint
John and several cousins.

CAMPBELL, MAYNARD KEITH
- Maynard Keith Campbell of Pennfield passed away at his residence on May 8
after a lengthy illness.
Prior to his retirement from the Dept. of Transportation as a
service truck operator he owned and operated a service station at Utopia and was
an employee of Connors Bros. as the mail car operator. He was an active member
of the Pennfield Baptist Church where he served as Superintendent of the Sunday
School and on the Board of Deacons.
He has a love of hunting, fishing and nature. He had a keen
interest in young people.
He was born in Bonny River, the son of the late Wellington
Campbell and the late Frances (Keith) Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Justason) Campbell;
one daughter Joan and her husband Frank Wallace of Fredericton; four
grandchildren; Brian and his wife Carole of Fredericton, Brenda and her husband
Gregg Wilson of Fredericton, Beth of Fredericton and Brent of Halifax; a niece
Ida Mae Coates of Saint John and several cousins.
The body rested at the St. George Funeral Home with service
following at the Pennfield Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Gray officiating
Carolyn Coulton was organist with musical selections by the Church Choir and
solist Greg Hatt. Scripture was read by Larry Hatt. A poem was composed as a
tribute to his grandfather was read by grandson, Brent.
Active pallbearers were Harley Hatt, Roy Swanston, Keith
McDowell, Vernon Spear, Walter Spear and Paul Justason.
Honorary pallbearers were Weldon Theriault, Aubrey Hatt,
Lewis Justason, Fred Cooke, Ken Hawkins, Clint McCumber and Arnold Young.
Interment took place in the adjoining Pennfield Baptist
Cemetery.

AUBREY W. - Aubrey W. Justason passed away on Aug. 22, 1997 at
Hillside Nursing Home in Messena, N.Y., after a lengthy illness.
He was predeceased by wife, Hilda G. (Eldridge) Justason, and
father, Chandler Justason.
He is survived by daughter, Cynthia Clary, and grandson,
Matthew, of Massena, N.Y. Also survived by mother, Mabel E. Justason, and
sister, Eudora Hatt, of Pennfield, N.B.
He lived in Pennfield all his young life, moving to Norfolk,
N.Y. around 37 years ago.
Funeral service was held, Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Pennfield
United Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Gay officiating. Text was taken from Psalm
23 and St. John Chapter 14. Rev. Gay and wife Brenda sang Some Golden Day
Break and Keith McDowell sang a favorite of Aubrey's When I've Gone the
Last Mile of the Way.
Pallbearers were Donald Justason, Paul Justason, Chris
Larsen, Larry Hatt, Gregg Hatt and Timothy Hatt.
Aubrey's family in Pennfield wish to express their special

NOEL BLANCHARD - "It was with great sadness that I learned of the death
of my brother Noel Blanchard Justason, on Friday of last week. We haven't seen
each other for the past few years as he bought a farm about 20 miles from Cape
Enrage, where he had been a lighthouse keeper. He was three years older than me,
born and brought up in Pennfield, mother and father, Bertha and Barney Justason
.
He leaves to mourn his oldest sister Nina O'Neill,
Fundy Nursing Home, Charlotte Brown, Beaver Harbour Road, Eunice Fraser, St.
George, Herbert Justason, Beaver Harbour Road, and his daughter Debbie Cook of
Beaver Harbour.
I'm remembering a brother who looked after me at the little
local school, who took Paul and me out in his boat when he was a fisherman in
Beaver Harbour, of the brother who took my kids to their first Sunday School
Christmas concert in Beaver Harbour Baptist Church, and made sure there were
gifts there for Mike and Pat. Sorry we lost contact."

"We attended a sunset memorial service for my brother, Noel Blanchard
Justason, on Thursday evening in the church yard of the Pennfield Baptist
Church, where as a boy he faithfully attended church and Sunday School. His two
granddaughters conducted the family service and many of his family were in
attendance.
Blanchard's ashes were buried in his parent's plot, Bertha
and Barney Justason.

Seniors. Before retiring, Doris was employed by Connors Bros. as a packer.

The funeral of Doris M. Williams of Pocologan, N.B., wife of the late Ulmont
(Benny) Williams was held from Pennfield United Baptist Church where the service
was conducted by Rev. Grant Alcorn, assisted by Rev. Shawn White from Edith
Avenue Baptist Church. Choirs from Pocologan and Pennfield Baptist Churches,
under the direction of organist Carolyn Coulton, sang "Sheltered In The
Arms of God". Other hymns included "Blessed Assurance" and
"How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were grandsons Michael and Russell
Williams, Jody Wortman, Royden Stewart, Corey Gagnon and Jeremy Smith. Among the
floral tributes were those from the Vice-President, Faculty and Staff of UNB
Saint John, Staff of Fundy Mini Market and Officers and Directors of Connors
Bros. Ltd. Many donations to the Pocologan Baptist Church were received,
including ones from Members and Friends of the Church, The Friendly Circle and
the Senior Choir of Edith Avenue Baptist Church. Donations to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation were received from the Staff of Bank of Nova Scotia, Blacks
Harbour and UNB Saint John Physical Plant Staff. A donation to Big Brothers and
Big Sisters was received from Meridian Construction Inc. Donations were also
received to the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church; Fundy Bay Senior Citizens Club;
Memorial Fund of Fundy Nursing Home and the Pennfield United Baptist Church.
Gideon Bibles were also placed in her memory. Interment took place in the
adjoining cemetery.

WINDSOR MORIN ALEXANDER - On February 10, 2002, Windsor Morin Alexander
Justason, Winnie to his family and many friends, peacefully passed away at the
Saint John Regional Hospital in the presence of his beloved family. For the past
several years Winnie had endured debilitating health, but managed to stay at
home under the loving care of his wife, Marjorie. Winnie was born to Edgar and
Clara Justason on November 10, 1923 in Pennfield, N.B. where he had lived for
his 78 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie May (Bell) and
three sons; Douglas and wife Paula of Saint John; Robert and wife Linda of
Pennfield and Terry and wife Sandra of Pennfield; seven grandchildren and three
great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald and wife Hazel and Sheldon and wife
Joan of Pennfield and two sisters, Marjorie and husband Aubrey Hatt of Pennfield
and Theresa and husband Robert Anderson of Saint John and several nieces,
nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Allen; one daughter, Janice
and a brother, Wilmot Justason. Winnie was well renowned in the area as a master
carpenter and cabinet-maker and in later years as joint proprietor with his wife
Marjorie, of the W & M Groceries Store on the Blacks Harbour Road in
Pennfield. Winnie was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason at St. George
Lodge No. 12 F&AM in St. George, where he had been a member for 44 years. He
was also a member of the Grand Royal Arch and Perceptory Lodges in St Stephen;
the Granite Chapter No. 15 Easter Star of St. George; Church of Christ in St.
George and the Fundy Tides Seniors Club of Pennfield. Some of Winnie’s most
enjoyable times were spent with his family, friends and especially
grandchildren, during the summers at the family cottage at Lake Utopia. After
retiring in 1984 he continued to spend time in his workshop making furniture and
transforming blocks from the woodpile into detailed woodcarvings. His family and
countless friends will sorely miss his love of children, kindness, easygoing
nature and quick wit.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street,
St. George, N.B. with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The service
will be held from the Church of Christ, 71 Carleton Street, St. George on
Wednesday at 2 PM with Rev. David Haddon officiating. Interment in the Pennfield
United Baptist Church Cemetery. Granite Chapter No. 15 O.E.S. will hold their
tribute service on Tuesday evening at 7 PM followed by St. George Lodge No. 12
F&AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of New
Brunswick or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
family.

GOLDING,
ALICE THOMPSON - At the Passamaquoddy Lodge Nursing Home in St. Andrews N.B.
on December 11, 2002, Mrs. Alice T. Golding Formally of Pennfield N.B. Born in
Pennfield N.B. on April 9, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Beecher and
Charlotte (Thompson) Hawkins. A loving mother and grandmother, Alice is survived
by two daughters: Jane McIntyre and her husband Norman of Cambridge Ontario and
Susie Langley and her husband Wayne of Toronto, four grandchildren: Don and Tim
McIntyre and Sara Beveridge, all of Toronto and Paul Bredderman of Greensboro
North Carolina, six great-grandchildren: Maggie, Bridgette, Evan, James and Alex
McIntrye and Hannah Beveridge, one brother: Arthur Hawkins (Lois) of Pennfield,
one sister: Florence Southard of St. Andrews, one sister in law: Mid Hawkins and
several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters: Mabel Alexander
and Margaret O'Brien and four brothers: Charles, Alfred, James and George
Hawkins. Alice was one of nine children of the Hawkins family and was raised by
Susie and Will Justason of Pennfield.
She attended Horton Academy, and graduated from Acadia
University and completed a Dietic Internship in Montreal. Alice was a longtime
member of the Pennfield Community and active in the community for most of her
life. She was a longtime member of the Pennfield Baptist Church, the Goodwill
Club, and was the Church Clerk as well as Sunday School Teacher for several
years. Alice also had been a member of the St. George Curling Club, Badminton
Club and Local Rifle Club. She had a great interest in the outdoors as she loved
fishing and partridge hunting as well as gardening. Alice also had a great love
for children and her special cats. This year Alice celebrated her 90th birthday
at the Passamaquaddy Lodge where she resided for the past four years. She will
be sadly missed.

George N.B. with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The service will be
held on Sunday at two p.m. from the Pennfield Baptist Church followed by
interment in the Church Cemetery. Donations to the Passamaquoddy Lodge, the
Pennfield Baptist Church or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated

CAMPBELL, KATHERINE MARGARET - Peacefully at
the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., following a brief illness.
Mrs. Katherine Margaret (Justason) Campbell, wife of the late Maynard Keith
Campbell of Pennfield, N.B.
Born in Pennfield, N.B., on November 13, 1915, she was the
daughter of the late Angus and Mary (Justason) Justason. A loving mother and
grandmother, and dear friend to many, she is survived by one daughter, Joan
Wallace of New Maryland, N.B.; four grandchildren, Brian (Carole) Wallace and
Brenda (Mrs. Greg Wilson), Beth Wallace all of Fredericton, N.B., and Brent
Wallace of Ottawa, Ontario; two great grandchildren, Miramda and Travis Wallace
of Fredericton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband and
parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Chandler Justason.
Kay was employed a short time by Connors Bros. Ltd., but most
of her life she was homemaker, caring for her family and neighbors. She was a
life time member of the Pennfield Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday
School for 50 years. She was a Dominion Life Member of the Women's Missionary
Society and a long time member of the Charlotte Liberal Association.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street,
St. George, N.B. with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will
be held on Wednesday at 2 pm from the Pennfield Baptist Church, followed by
interment in the church cemetery.

- EVERETT, ALICE MARGARET - Alice Margaret Justason-Everett of Gagetown
Nursing Home died peacefully at the Oromocto Hospital on December 30, 2003. She
was the wife of the late Hazen Justason and daughter of the late Clifford and
Clara (Hope) Teare. She is survived by one daughter Helen Boyd of Ontario, one
brother Ellery Teare of Australia, daughter-in-law Lillian Justason of Saint
John, four grandchildren, Mark Boyd, Russell Justason Jr., Greg Justason
(Elizabeth) and Lisa Cummings (Nick). Also survived by four great grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews. Alice is predeceased by her son Russell
Justason, one brother Clyde Teare and two sisters Winnifred Mawhinney and Ethel
Galbraith.
Resting at A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street,
with visitation on Friday January 2, 2004 from 2-4 pm, immediately followed by
the funeral service in Cavanagh's Chapel at 4 pm. Internment in The United
Baptist Church Cemetery in Pennfield at a later date.

HAWKINS, MILDRED F.- Hawkins, Mildred (Mid) F.
(Stuart) of Pennfield N.B. peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital on
Tuesday, August 17, 2004.
Survived by one daughter, Carole of Richmond Hill, Ont. three
sons, Stuart (Dianne) of Pennfield, Barrie of Richmond Hill, Ont. and Dwight (Jaye)
of Fredericton, one sister Kathleen of Fredericton, four grand-children and two
great grandchildren. Predeceased by infant daughter Charlotte Gail, husband
Alfred, twin sister Grace, sisters Marion and Christine and brother Chauncey.
Mid was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was known
for her lively conversation and wonderful apple pie. She was forever young and
will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

St. George, NB, with visiting on Thursday, August 19, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 pm.
The service will be held from the Pennfield United Baptist

JUSTASON, MABEL EUDORA - At the Fundy Nursing
Home, Blacks Harbour, NB, the death of Mrs. Mabel Eudora Justason, 99, wife of
the late Chandler Alexander Justason, occurred on February 13, 2005, at her
residence. Born in Back Bay, NB on January 25, 1906, she was a daughter of the
late Lewis and Floretta (Towers) Holmes.
Mabel is survived by one daughter, Eudora Hatt (Harley); five
grandchildren, Larry, Greg and Tim Hatt, Laurel Phillips and Cindy Clary; ten
great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Laura Cooke; several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by one son, Aubrey Justason; two sisters, Blanche Grant and
Cora Dick; one brother, Willard Holmes; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Campbell.
Mabel was a life long member of the Pennfield United Baptist
Church, and was active in the Women’s Missionary Society as well as being a
Sunday School teacher for many years.
Resting at the Pennfield United Baptist Church with visiting
on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. and on Tuesday morning from 10 am till noon,
followed by the funeral service at 2 pm with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating.

JEAN KATHLEEN - Unexpectedly at her residence in Riverside-Albert, NB on
March 22, 2007, Jean Justason, wife of the late Noel Blanchard Justason.
Born at Preau, NS on June 7, 1938, she was a daughter of the
late Harden and Ruby (MacNutt) King. Jean is survived by one son, Charles
Coleman (Sharon) of Hamilton, ON; two daughters, Angela Gray (Billy) of Anaheim,
CA and Tina Wiggins (Jon) of Pickering, ON; step-daughter Debra Cooke of Beaver
Harbour, NB; two sisters, Shirley Ingalls, of St. George, NB and Carolyn Holt
(Donald) of St. George, NB; one brother, Mackenzie King (Doris) of Utopia;
several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two sisters Edith King & Gladys
Bertin.
On March 30th Jean’s ashes were laid to rest
next to those of her husband at the Pennfield United Baptist Cemetery.

HAWKINS, ARTHUR BEECHER "Art" - Unexpectedly
at his residence on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, Mr. Arthur Beecher Hawkins,
husband of Lois (Justason) Hawkins of Pennfield Ridge NB. Born at Pennfield NB
on September 22, 1913, he was a son of the late Arthur and Charlotte (Thompson)
Hawkins. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife;
Lois, two sons; Roger (Pam) and Beecher (Joyce), both of Pennfield, one
daughter; Karen (Ellis) Hawkins of Fredericton NB, five grandchildren; Jennifer
(Steven) Campbell of Red Deer AB, R.J Hawkins (Jill Leavitt) of Saint John NB,
Sara Hawkins (Jason Moses) of Pennfield, Nicholas (Amy) Hawkins and Shanna
Hawkins both of Saint John, three Great-grandchildren; DJ, Julia and Grant and
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family having been predeceased by an infant daughter Charlotte
Elizabeth, four brothers; Charles, James, Alfred and George and four sisters;
Mabel Alexander, Alice Golding, Florence Southard and Margaret O’Brien. Art
was well known in the area as a farmer, growing the famous Hawkins potatoes and
was a dedicated family man. He was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, #12 F
&AM in St. George and a Shriner as well as a lifetime member of the St.
George Curling Club which he help construct.

VICKERS, BERTHA "LILLIAN" - At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB on
July 16, 2008, Mrs. Bertha “Lillian” Vickers, wife of the late Benjamin
"Bennie" Vickers of Beaver Harbour NB. Born at Beaver Harbour on April 3,
1926, she was a daughter of the late Medley and Petra Kennedy. Lillian is
survived by adopted son, Joe Barrio (Suzanne Burt) of Lansdowne ON, two
granddaughters; Jennifer Vickers (Kevin Vance) of L’Etang NB and Tina Vickers
of Edmonton AB, four great grandchildren; Alec Swain, Hannah Swain, Addison
Vance and Ethan Hawke, daughter in law, Rowena "Maisy" Vickers of St.
George, sister in law, Marion Kennedy of Halifax NS, her best friends; Ellen
Nightingale, Brenda Gay, Mary Olmstead, Hazel Gilmore, Mavis Leavitt and more,
and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Lillian was
predeceased by one son, William, one sister Ruth and by three brothers; George,
Parker and Hermie. Lillian was the last surviving member of her immediate
family.
Prior to her retirement, Lillian was employed by Connors Bros. in Blacks Harbour
as a packer and also the Bank of Nova Scotia in Blacks Harbour as an appraiser.
She was a volunteer Ambulance Driver throughout the local community. Lillian was
a member of the Girl Guides Of Canada, The Order of the Eastern Star, Granite
Chapter # 15 at St. George and a long time member of the Beaver Harbour Baptist
Church. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Mary grew up in Pennfield and graduated from the Eastern Charlotte Regional School (St. George NB) in 1955; and from Acadia University (Wolfville NS) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1958. Her employment career took her to
Montréal QB, Calgary AB and Fredericton NB. She retired in 1995 from her position with the federal government as project officer with the Canada Employment Centre under Human Resources Development Canada (Fredericton, NB). Mary
had a good sense of humour, was a voracious reader and a lover of cats. She is survived by her loyal cat "Jake".
A memorial service will be held at the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George NB on Sunday, September 6 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at 1:30 PM
prior to the service.

MEALEY, BEATRICE ILENE "Bea" - Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on May 9, 2010, Ms. Beatrice Ilene Mealey of Pocologan NB. Born at Pocologan on October 12, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Harry
and Hazel (Campbell) Mealey. A loving sister, aunt and friend, she is survived by two brothers; Charlie (Georgina) Mealey and Kenneth Mealey both of Pocologan, two sisters; Hazel Winters and Alice McLane both of Pocologan, she was
"Special Nanny Bea" to Erik and Kaitlyn Hansen, Racheal and Bella O’Neil and Carl and Laura O’Neil and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Cecil Mealy and by
one sister Bessie O’Neil.
Bea was a kind and generous person, who left work at Connors Brothers to care for her mother and father. She liked animals, reading and listening to Country and Western music, especially Buck Owens. She collected and enjoyed old
TV shows and movies, including The Lone Ranger, Shirley Temple, The Andy Griffith Show and of course, I Love Lucy. Bea loved to laugh and have fun. She enjoyed talking on the phone and gathering with her family and friends. She
will be missed by all who knew her.

WORMELL, MAYNARD GUY "Bud" - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on November 4, 2011, Mr. Maynard “Bud” G. Wormell, husband of Mrs. Marietta (Foster) Wormell of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Woodwards Cove, Grand Manan NB on July 14, 1919, he
was a son of the late Clyde and Winnifred (Flagg) Wormell. A loving husband, uncle and friend he is survived by his wife Marietta and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud was predeceased by brothers, Glenn, Vic, Reg and
Clayton.
Prior to his retirement, Bud worked for the Maintenance Dept. at Connor’s Bros in Blacks Harbour NB. He was a veteran having served during World War II with the 15th Heavy Battery Royal Canadian Army, Coastal Artillery. He was a
long time member of the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Resting at the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour NB, from where the service will be held on Sunday at 11:00 am with Rev. Jeff Hoyt officiating, followed by the interment at the Pennfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visiting hours at the church will take place on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Bud’s memory, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan
