Clamming at Pocologan, and many other flats along the Bay of Fundy, was a popular recreational activity as well as a way of picking up some income during hard times when pulp mills or sawmills were adjusting inventory or closed. It was reported in "The Saint Croix Courier" in April of 1952 that there were more than 1,000 acres of clamming flats being worked from Oak Bay to Lepreau.
