Winters brought varying amounts of snow, and in early times, snow was welcomed as it smoothed rutted roads and made traveling by sleigh comfortable and convenient. With the era of automobiles, snow was not as welcomed, and it could result in closures of roads, as was the case in this storm at Pennfield Ridge on February 29, 1952.
