In October of 1952, Blacks Harbour herring seiners were pulled up side by side against the wharf, waiting to go out and make the catch. From time to time, a glut of herring would enter the estuary, and the vessels would chase in off the high sea and make the catch by netting off the mouth of the river in order to cluster the fish, trapping them in their nets.
