Harold G. Davidson of Woodstock passed away on January 14, 2003
at Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born at Lower Southampton on
January 18, 1931, he was a son of the late Guy and Daisy (Howland)
Davidson. He is survived
by his wife, Loverine I. (Fox) Davidson; a daughter, Donna
Davidson-Slater (Edward), Houlton, Maine; four sons, Brian
Davidson, South Korea, Rober Davidson (Mary), Meductic, Blair
Davidson (Donna) Meductic and Terry Davidson (Tammy), First Eel
Lake; a sister, Myrtle Grant, Moncton; his mother-in-law,
Marjorie L. Fox, Woodstock; five grandchildren, Sarah Powell (Robert),
Jeffery Davidson, Melissa Pires (Sean), Krista Davidson and Heidi
Davidson; several nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by
two brothers, William and Roy Davidson. Resting at Flewelling
Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, with visiting hours
Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from
the funeral home chapel on Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 2 p.m.
Rev. Leonard Cousins officiating. Interment will be later at
Hillman Cemetery. Honorary pallbearer will be Wilfred Patteson.
Active pallbearers will be David Alward, Ed Slater, James
Dickinson, Jack Moore, Eugene Stairs, Arwood Moorcroft, Robert

Albert "Bert" Davis passed away Sunday, January 20,
2002 at his home in Waterville, NB. He was born February 2, 1901.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary and daughter Jenny Kimball.
He is survived by sons, Charles (Florence), Donald (Jeane), Lloyd
all of Waterville, Ivan (Tammy) of Woodstock, 20 grandchildren,
24 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great- grandchildren, niece and
nephews. Resting at the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street,
Hartland on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM with the funeral on Thursday
at 2:00 PM from the Britton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will
be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland. Donations can be made

DAWSON, CHARLES MICHAEL - 1904-2002 -
Charles Michael Dawson of Bath, NB, passed away at the Northern
Carleton Hospital Bath on February 12, 2002 at the age of 97.
Born in Johnville, he was the son of the late John and Mary (McQuire)
Dawson. Charlie is
survived by his wife Lena, two sons John (Marilyn) of Slave Lake,
AB and Wayne of Florida. One granddaughter Dianne. Remains
resting at Kilcollins Funeral Home 31 Hospital St. Bath, visiting
Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of the Christian Burial will be
celebrated on Friday February 15, 2002 at 11 AM from St. John the
Evangelist Church Johnville. Rev. Keith Neilsen officiating
assisted by Charlie's son Wayne. Interment to take place at a
later date in the Johnville Cemetery. There will be a legion
memorial service on Thursday evening 6:45 PM at the funeral home.

DAYE, OSBOURNE ROYCE (OSSIE) - The death of Osbourne Daye of
Woodstock, NB, husband of Lois (King) Daye occurred at Carleton
Memorial Hospital on February 16, 2003. Born in Fredericton July
27, 1914, he was the
son of John J. and Gertrude (Savage) Daye. Ossie was a well-known Barber in Woodstock for
many years. He and Lois would have celebrated their 65th
anniversary on April 11th, 2003. In addition to his wife, he is
survived by five children: John (Charlene) of Saint John, David (Debbie)
of Woodstock, Margie Patterson (Rev. William) of Douglas Harbour,
James (Micheline) of Cambellton, and Douglas (Marlene) of Saint
John, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons, and one niece and
one nephew. He was predeceased by his parents. Step-mother
Vaughan and one brother, Allan. Resting at The Carleton Funeral
Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Rd, Jacksonville, NB with visitation on
Tuesday February 18th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will
be held at the St. James United Church on Chapel Street in

Woodstock on Thursday, April 4, 2002. He was born April 11, 1947
and was the son
of the late Clinton and Marguerite (Shaw) DeLong. He was predeceased by one
brother Grayson. He is survived by sister, Janet (Joe) Olmstead
of Fredericton, brothers Peter (Karen) DeLong of Fredericton,
Garth (Janet) DeLong of Sarnia, Ontario, three aunts, nieces and
nephews. Resting at Britton Funeral Home, High Street, Hartland

The death of Marguerite M. DeLong occurred at the Central
Carleton Nursing Home in Hartland, NB, on February 17, 2002. Born
January 13, 1924 to the late Ethel (Cook) and Harley Shaw in Mainstream. Marguerite was
the wife of the late Clinton C. DeLong. She was a longtime
resident of Hartland and a member of the United Baptist Church.
Marguerite was predeceased by a son, Grayson, brother Hazen (Goldina)
Shaw and sister Myrna (Norman) Prosser. She is survived by a
daughter Janet (Joe) Olmstead of Fredericton, Gene DeLong of
Hartland, Peter (Karen) DeLong of Fredericton, Garth (Janet)
DeLong of Sarnia, Ontario, eight grandchildren, three step
grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, one sister Winnifred (Lauriston)

Vaughan DeMerchant of Perth-Andover, age 54, passed away
peacefully at Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital on February 15, 2004.
Born in Perth-Andover, he was the son of the late Harold and
Beatrice (Goodine) DeMerchant. He leaves behind his wife Eunice
DeMerchant (Butler); his children Angela (Gerald) Pelkey of
Fredericton, Tim (Kenda) DeMerchant of Perth-Andover; his
grandchildren Joshua and Lauren "Muffin" Pelkey, Cole
and Tory "Baby Girls" DeMerchant; his sister Norma (Harry)
Evans of Presque Isle, Maine; brothers Harold Jr. (Ellen) of
Arthurette, Rev. Bennie (Theresa) of Brazil, Robert of Kintore;
and several nieces and nephews. Vaughan was a founding member of
the Perth-Andover Rotary Club, served on the Hotel Dieu St.
Joseph Hospital board, served on Perth-Andover Village Council,
and was a member of the Perth-Andover Fire Department for many
years, just to name a few groups he was part of. Resting at
Calvary Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church with visitation on
Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday
February 17, 2004 at 2 pm from the church. Rev. H. M. Lewis
officiating, assisted by Rev. Bennie DeMerchant and Rev. D. T.
Ferrel. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. In lieu

Age 79 of Mount Pleasant, N.B., passed away at Carleton Memorial
Hospital, Woodstock on October 4, 2003. Born at Mount Pleasant on
May 12, 1924 Gerald was the son of the late Vinal and Olive (Woodcock)
Derrah. He was a life long farmer. He was an active member of the
Mount Pleasant United Baptist Church, a long time member of the
Florenceville School Board, Woodstock Carleton Memorial Hospital
Board, Carleton Co-operative Board, Carleton County Council and
was active throughout his life in the Progressive Conservative
Party. He is survived by his wife Sydney (Manuel); by two
daughters Judy (Jack) MacQuarrie of Moncton and Carolyn (Randy)
Derrah-Murphy of Fall River, N.S.; by three sons Brian of Ottawa
and Chris (Norma) and Richard (Sue-Ellen) of Mount Pleasant; ten
grandchildren Jason, Matthew, Jordon, Devan, Julie, Lauren
Derrah, Jonathan and Amy MacQuarrie; and Emily and Rachel Murphy;
and sister Avis Whitehouse. He was predeceased by daughter Brenda
and brothers Charlie, Earl and Ray. Resting at the Britton

James S. Dickison, age 67 of Canterbury, passed away on Friday,
October 3, 2003 at Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born in Ludlow,
Maine, he was a son of the late Stanley and Ruth (Lloyd) Dickison.
James enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed
brewing his own beer as well as driving in the country and on
back roads. James is survived by his wife, Doris Ann (Alward)

Wendell Dickinson of Upper Woodstock passed away peacefully on
Thursday, May 15, 2003, surrounded by his family, at the Carleton
Manor. Wendell was born in Hartland, May 22, 1922 to Frank and
Gladys (Leston) Dickinson. He was a veteran of World War 2,
serving in the Canadian Air Force, an avid hunter and fisherman,
with many stories to tell. Wendell enjoyed a long career as a
social worker. He is survived by his wife Iva Dickinson; five
sons, Frank Dickinson of Woodstock; Kim (Nancy) Dickinson of
Jacksonville, NB; Randy and (Karen) Dickinson of Fredericton, NB;
Stephen Dickinson of Ellsworth, Maine; Christopher (Ingrid)
Dickinson of Fredericton, NB; three daughters, Linda (Jim)
Ferrier of Toronto, ON; Cathy (Robbie) Burnett of Woodstock, NB;

DINGEE, GERALDINE CONROD - At the Queen Elizabeth II, Halifax on
February 12, 2003, Geraldine Conrod Dingee of 117 Church St.
Bath, NB E7J 1A5, passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Born
in Greenfield, NB, she was the only child of Charles and Jennie
(Kilpatrick) Caldwell.
Geraldine was a registered nurse at Bath Hospitals. Very active
in her community, she was past Matron of the Order of the Eastern
Star Chapter #7, member of the Daughters of the Nile, Saint John,
Bath UCW, lifetime elder of Faith Memorial United Church and
volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society and Red Cross.

of Carlow, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was
predeceased by son Brent Arthur and grandson Craig Wayne Dingee.

Funeral services to be held Saturday at 1 PM from the Church, Rev.
Les Johnston to officiate. Interment will be in the Bristol

DIONNE, VIVIAN LOUISE -
Of Woodstock, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on
Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the age of 67, following a brief
battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 44 years,
William E. Dionne, son Michael (at home), daughters Anne
Katherine of Toronto and Jean Marie (Andrew Lane) of Montreal,
father William C. Green of Saint John West, brother Frank Green (Maura)
of Saint John West, sister Rose Marie Foster (Doug) of Lake
Utopia, several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by
her mother, Dora I. (Pryor)
Green. Vivian was born in
Saint John where she began her piano and organ studies. By age 13,
she was organist at Church of the Assumption. She taught school
until marrying Bill in 1958. Five years later, they moved to
Woodstock. Since arriving in Carleton County, Vivian shared her
musical talents with many, serving as organist at St.
Gertrude\rquote s Roman Catholic Church, playing in Jack & Co.
dance band, accompanying school concerts and beauty pageants,
entertaining senior citizens\rquote groups, Women\rquote s
Institutes and at other community functions. In recent years,
Vivian enjoyed learning to play the fiddle, practicing with the
Carleton County Fiddlers, and attending Fiddle Doos across the
province. Vivian was a past president of St. Gertrude\rquote s C.W.L.
In September 2001, she was awarded the Bishop Dollard Medal in
recognition of her long-standing service to church and community.
Thank you, Viv, for the fond memories and especially for all your
wonderful music. Resting at The Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main
Street, Woodstock, with visiting on Saturday, May 18, from 7-9 PM
and Sunday, May 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be

Mr. Maurice Dionne 1936 - 2003
MIRAMICHI, NB - Mr. Maurice Dionne of Derby, passed away at Mount
St. Joseph Nursing Home on Monday, November 17, 2003 at the age
of 67. Born in Bath, NB, he was the son of the late George and
Mary (McLaughlin) Dionne. In addition to his wife, Precille (Babin),
he is survived by two daughters Jacqueline Kippers (Steven) of
Port Elgin, ON, Nicole Lagace (Richard) of North Bay, ON; three
sons, Martin (Andrew Chow-Woon) of Toronto, Matthew (Jeanette) of
Aylesford, NS; Sean of Moose Jaw, Sask; three sisters, Anne of
Woodstock, Marie of Smith Falls, ON, Marian (Barry Hennessey) of
Armstrong, BC; three brothers, William (Bill) of Woodstock, Henry
(Barb) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Nicholas (Ruth) of London, ON;
eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his
parents, Maurice was predeceased by one sister-in-law, Vivian and
two brothers, Joe and Paul. Maurice attended Our Lady of Good
Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Millerton and was a member of
the Canadian Liberal Party of Canada. Maurice grew up on a farm
in Johnville, New Brunswick, and before he left home for
teacher's college, the family moved to a farm on the out skirts
of Woodstock. After completing teacher's college in 1956, his
first job as a teacher was in St. George. He taught in various
other locations, including Yellowknife and Baie Comeau. In Baie
Comeau, he met Precille, and the two fell in love. They were
married in 1961, and began their family in 1963. After moving
about in Eastern Canada, Maurice and Precille settled on the
Miramichi, where Maurice took a job as Principal of Millerton
High School in 1966. Politics was always Maurice's second love.
In fact he knew he wanted to be a Member of Parliament from the
age of 12. In 1974, he secured the Liberal party nomination in
what was then the riding of Northumberland-Miramichi. He served
in that capacity until 1984 and was elected again in 1988, and
left politics in 1993. As a politician, his proudest
accomplishments included bringing jobs to the Miramichi in form
of expansion of the pulp mill, dredging the Miramichi River, and
securing the prison for Renous. He was also very fond of the many
different groups who make up the Miramichi riding and was a
strong supporter of the francophone and Migmac communities. On
November 17, 2003, he succumbed to Alzheimer's after a protracted
12-year battle. The family will receive relatives and friends at
Northumberland Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20, 2003 from 7
to 9 and on Friday, November 21, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November
22, 2003 at 11 a.m. from St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church in
Renous with Msgr. Joseph Woods officiating. Burial will be in Our
Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Millerton. The
funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral
Home, 102 Pleasant St., telephone 622-7741.

DORE, JOANNE EVELYN
Mrs. Joanne Evelyn Dore beloved wife of Duane of Hartland, NB,
passed away in Calgary on April 30, 2002 at the age of 59 years,
after a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne was involved as a
volunteer with many activities in the town of Hartland. She was a
giving person with a heart of gold, always putting others ahead
of herself. Besides her loving husband, best friend and soulmate,
Joanne is survived by her family: David (Crystal) Bartlick of
Edmonton, Terca (Al) Wood, Earl (Heidi) Dore, Sandra (Wayne)
Richardson all of Calgary, and Jennifer Dore of Hartland, NB, and
five grandchildren, William, Kaylin, Duane, Chante, Jordan and a
grandchild soon to be born. She is also survived by her twin
brother, John Skogg, of Edmonton, brothers Ernest (Brenda) Skogg
of Australia, Laverne (Liz) Skogg of Kelowna, BC and Darield
Skogg of Edmonton as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives
and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Eric and Evelyn
Skogg.
Funeral service was held at the Eastside Memorial Chapel,
Calgary, followed by cremation with burial at a later date in
Fredericton, NB.

Deanna M. Donovan of Skiff Lake passed away September 28, 2003 at
her home. Born at Woodstock on February 25, 1942, she was a
daughter of the late Horace and Myrtle Kennedy as well as the
late John and Violet Fleming. Deanna is survived by two
daughters, Jullian Dow (Kevin Wright), Woodstock and Jane Donovan-Bedard
(Sylvain), Canterbury; a son, John Donovan (Annette), Skiff Lake;
her faithful companion, Robert Donovan; eight grandchildren,
Oran, Cornelia, Robin, Jesse, Mikayla, Jacob,Tyson and Josh; two
sisters, Dorothy Bolger, Elmwood and Shirley McGuire (Gerald),
Woodstock; three brothers, Larry Kennedy (Marilyn), Elmwood,
George Kennedy (Greta), Kirkland and Edwin Kennedy (Vicky),
Canterbury; two aunts, Mary Grant (Sterling), Woodstock and
Dorothy Grant, Woodstock; several nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her husband, Francis N. P. Donovan on March 30,
1992. Resting at her home, 2155 Route 122, Skiff Lake with
visiting hours Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas
Church, Canterbury on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. by
Rev. Dan Melanson. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Grace (Love) Downey, age 78,
occurred at her home on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. Born in Woodstock,
she was a
daughter of the late Willis and Ella (Purvis) Love. Grace graduated from UNB in 1945. She served
for a number of years as the Director of The Women's Institute
Home in Woodstock, retiring in 1988 and moving to Sackville. She
is survived by sons, Patrick (Debbie), St. Catherines, ON, and
Timothy (Daana), St. Albert, AB; and daughters Kathleen (Wylie)
McMullen, Sackville, Susan (Jack) Nolan, Aurora, ON, Joanne (John)
Reinstra, Steveston, BC, Linda (Mike) Rao, Guelph, ON, and Brenda
(Roger) Odera, Edmonton, AB. She will be sadly missed by
grandchildren, Gregory, Peter, Briar, Michael, Jessica, Danny,
Alexe, Scott, Anna, Lee, Sarah, Jacqueline, James and Jennifer,
sisters Verna Higham, Toronto, Shirley Mactavish and Doreen
Brittain, both of Hampton NB, and a brother David (Eleanor) Love

Mary Rose Downing-Hathaway (Corbett) of Perth-Andover, age 66,
passed away at the St. Joseph Hotel Dieu Hospital on July 5th,
2002. She leaves behind her daughter Rosemary (Thane) Elliott of
Clearview; her sister Cecilia Corbett of Fredericton; brothers
Joseph (Audrey) of Woodstock, Maurice (Rita) of North Johnville,
Louis of Woodstock, Francis (Edith) of Fredericton, George (June)
of Royalton, Alvin (Rita) of St. Stephen, and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands George Downing and Cecil
Hathaway; her son Joseph Downing, and brother Cecil Corbett.

WINTHROP Laura Carpenter Doyle, 93, of Winthrop, died
Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
She was born June 6, 1906, in Bloomfield, New Brunswick,
daughter of Charles and Lina (Beckim)
Carpenter.
She graduated from Norridgewock High School, Emery Beauty School
in Portland and Maine School of Commerce in Auburn. She was a
past matron and life member of Abnaki Chapter, Order of Eastern
Star. She was employed by the state for more than 20 years and
was the No. 1 person at Doyle's Tree Service.
Laura was a classic Yankee lady in every sense of the word, with
an alert mind, willing hands and a desire to be active in her
world. She doted on her family and grandchildren and was always
there for them or anyone in need. She was renowned for her
ability to cook prodigious amounts of food, particularly
desserts, and made the best-tasting chocolate-chip cookies ever.
While retaining her ultimate femininity, she could work equally
alongside anyone else to get a job done no matter how difficult,
and still maintain a positive outlook on life, and always had a
good word for everybody. Her family is grateful for her example
and her teachings.
Survivors include two sons; five grandchildren, and husband and
four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband,
Roger Doyle. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 5, at Roberts Funeral Home, 26 Bowdoin St.,
Winthrop, with the Rev. Dr. Peter Misner officiating. Burial will
follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Narrows Pond Road, Winthrop.

DRISCOLL, DAVID M. -
Peacefully, with his loving family at his bedside, David M. (Dave)
Driscoll, husband of Geraldine (Gerri) (Gill) Driscoll, passed
away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday September 14,
2002. He was the son
of the late Rev. Gordon and Annie (Stacey) Driscoll. He was a proud father of four sons; David (Pat),
Don (Leslee Shea), Jeff (Colleen) and Sean (Susan Mayes). David
will be sadly missed by brothers and sisters from British
Columbia; Ernest (Cora), Gordon (Lois), Jean Sherwood (George)
and from the Maritimes; Betty, Dorothy Jenkins (Ralph), Murray (Nita),
Joan Fogarty (Michael), Grandchildren; Matthew (Catherine),
Kendra, Morgan, Brendan, Kaitlyn and Joshua, many nieces, nephews
and cousins. Born in Newfoundland in 1932, his family moved to
Woodstock in 1944 and later to Saint John NB. In his earlier
years Dave had worked as a Real-estate Agent, worked for Personal
TV, K Mart and later owned and operated his own music store,
Dave\rquote s Music. Dave had his private pilots license and
loved to fly when he was younger, he also loved fishing, hunting,
music, spending time with his grandchildren and when his health
declined watching many birds that came to the bird feeders at his
home. He is predeceased by his parents also a brother Wallace. A
Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18,
2002 at the Kings Valley Wesleyan Church, Quispamsis. Dave\rquote
s family will receive visitors at CASTLE "Kings Chapel"

DUGAN, Grace-
The death of Mrs. Grace Dugan, wife of John Joseph Dugan,
occurred at her residence, Moose Mountain, Carleton County, after
a brief illness. Mrs. Dugan was a daughter of John Lloyd
and the late Catherine (Harding) Lloyd, and was born at Red Head,
Charlotte County in 1908. Surviving are her husband, two
daughters, Mary and Theresa; two sons, James and Lewis, her
father; five brothers William, Vernon, Matthew, Albert and Basil;
one sister Miss Ella Lloyd, an uncle James Harding, as well as
several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held from the
residence of Mrs. Richard Dugan to St. John the Evangelist
Church, Johnville, for High Mass of Requiem celebrated by Rev. J.
W. Coughlan. The pallbearers were Ambrose Riley, Joseph
Crain, Leroy Dugan, nephews; John J. Dugan and Joseph McSheffery.
Interment was in the Johnville Cemetery with prayers at the grave
by Father Coughlan.

DUGAN, TIMOTHY
DUGAN - Timothy Dugan died on May 25th at his home at Moose
Mountain at the age of 85. He was born near Saint john in
1862 and moved to Carleton County in boyhood with his parents
where he has since resided. His wife, formerly Miss
Catherine (Crabbe) Dugan predeceased him eight years ago.
They celebrated their 50th anniversary about nine years ago.
Mr. Dugan leaves to morn, two sons, Richard, Moose mountain, and
John, with whom he made his home; four daughters Marguerite,
Lynn, Mass., Mrs. John Crain (Rose), Mrs. James Dionne (Nellie)
Arthurette, N.B., and Mrs. Lillian Riley Skowhegan, Maine, also
many grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A sister,
Catherine Dugan, Lynn, Mass. is the last surviving member of the
family of eleven. The funeral was held from his late home
to St. john Evangelist Church where Requiem High Mass was sung by
Rev. D. T. Warner. Pallbearers were six of his grandsons,
Joseph Crain, Edmond Crain, Dennis O'Donnell, Francis O'Donnell,
Ambrose Riley, and Leroy Dugan.
