Mrs.W.D. CAMBER - Woodstock,
NB, Oct. 10th (1928)
Mrs. W.D. CAMBER died very suddenly of heart failure at her home
on Albert Street last evening. She was sitting in front of the
fire talking to her daughter when she passed away. She had been
suffering from heart trouble for some time but had improved
considerably lately and been able to walk down town. Deceased is
survived by one daughter, Faye, at home, and one son Clyde at
Grand Falls. She was the widow of the late Dr. W.D.CAMBER.

CAMERON, CATHERINE MARY - Passed away at The Carleton Memorial
Hospital in Woodstock, N.B. on March 12, 2002, she was 87.
Catherine Mary Cameron of Woodstock, N.B. was born on October 1,
1914 in Scotland to the late Duncan and Margaret (Farmer)
Cameron.
Ms. Cameron taught school most of her life in a variety of places.
She is survived by one sister, Peggy Cameron of Lower Woodstock,
N.B. and 13 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one
brother, Murdo and one sister, Elizabeth. Remains resting at The
Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Rd. Jacksonville, N.B.
where friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday March 14, 2002.
Funeral service will be on Friday March 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.
from the funeral home. Rev. Fred Synder will be officiating.
Interment will take place at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery at a

CAMPBELL, GRACE -
The death of Grace Campbell of Perth-Andover, occurred on May 25,
2002 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital at the age of 75. Born in
Lakeville, NB. She is survived by her husband Eugene Campbell,
one daughter Linda (Ron) Peterson of Charlotte, N.C., one son
Gary (Jill) Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona, three granddaughters Dr.
Stacey Peterson Carmichael and her husband Steve Carmichael,
Sally (Harry) Moore and Stephanie Campbell all of Arizona, one
grandson Todd Peterson of Raleigh, N.C. Predeceased by her
parents Henry and Pearl (Bell) Wilson. She was a member of the
Eastern Star and Daughter of the Nile. Resting at White\rquote s
Funeral Home, Perth-Andover with visiting hours Tuesday May 28,
2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 PM.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2002 at 2 PM
from St. James United Church, Perth-Andover with Rev. Martin
Carnahan officiating. Interment in Larlee Creek Cemetery.

Of Woodstock passed away at Carleton Memorial Hospital in
Woodstock on Monday, September 16, 2002, at the age of 87. Leitha
is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Roland) Robichaud of
Moncton, NB; three sisters, Shirley Prescott of New Denmark, NB;
Ruth Hitchcock of Ortonville, NB; Gladys (Wendell) Gallagher of
Ortonville, NB; one grandson, Neil Robichaud of Moncton, NB; one

nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Walter

Darlene A. Campbell of Upper Hainesville, formerly of Hartland,
passed away on June 30, 2003 at the age of 63 at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. She was predeceased by her
daughter, Elizabeth Campbell, father James Lovely, and a sister
Brenda Hollene. She is survived by her children Sharon (Paul)
Dugas of Shearwater, NS, Paula (Laurie) Lees of Burton, NB, Bill
Campbell (Kent Martin) of Vancouver, BC, four grandchildren,
mother, Reta Lovely of Hartland, NB, sister, Nancy Lovely of
Moncton, NB, nieces and nephews. Resting at the Britton Funeral

Ernest Byrne Carey of Hartland passed away on Sunday, February 24,
2002 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. He was born
July 9, 1911 and was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret (Hatheway)
Carey. He
is survived by his wife Florence (Miller) Carey of Hartland,
daughter, Rose Marie (Stuart) Dick of Nepean, Ontario,
grandchildren, Margaret (David) Lynch of Kanata, Ontario, Graeme
(Grace) Dick of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, great granddaughter,
Brennah Lynch, nieces and nephews. Resting at the Britton Funeral
Home, High Street, Hartland with visiting hours on Thursday 7-9

Of Woodstock, formerly of Fosterville, NB passed away at Carleton
Manor in Woodstock on Monday, January 6, 2003, at the age of 89.
Delbert is survived by two sons; Floyd Carr of St. George, NB and
Harold Carr and his wife Claire of Valleyfield, PQ, one daughter;
Kathleen Risseeuw and her husband Joseph of Lower Sackville, NS,
one sister; Mamie Boone of Bristol, NB. He is also survived by
several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his wife; Pauline (Wood) Carr; his

CAVERHILL, ERVIN BEVERLEY E.
Beverley (Bev) Caverhill of Rossville passed away November 20,
2003 at his home. Born at Southampton on October 25, 1942, he was
a son of the late Ervin and Alice (Sinnott) Caverhill. Bev was a
trucker and a woods contractor. He was a member of the Nackawic
Sno-Drifters Snowmobile Club. He is survived by his wife, Donna C.
Caverhill; a daughter, Tammy Freeman (Anthony), Rossville; three
step-sons; six grandchildren, Evan and Karli Freeman, Alex,
Jeremy, John and Rachel Davidson; his step-mother, Mary
Caverhill, St. Catherines, Ontario; four sisters, Eunice Dineen (Dayton),
Calais, Maine, Sandra Petrozza (Luigi), Orangeville, Ontario,
Dorothy Rohovich (Norman), Campbell Settlement and Shirley Reeds
(Richard), Ontario; seven brothers, Harry (Edna), Hartfield,
Dale, Michael (Linda), both of Campbell Settlement, David (Barb),
Peace River, AB, Reginald (Mary), Rusagonis, Darren (Darlene) and
Nelson, both of Ontario; a special aunt, Shirley Monteith,

CHAMBERLIN, Pauline A.
CANTON - , 95, of Canton, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her
Canton home. She was born June 25, 1904, inSummerfield, New
Brunswick, Canada, daughter
of Ezra and Gertrude (Creed) Lunn. She graduated from Waterville
High School and was a graduate of Waterville's Colby College,
class of 1926. She married Paul P. Chamberlin on Sept. 3, 1929.
She taught school in Waterville, Winslow and at Oak Grove School
for Girls in Vassalboro.
Following her retirement, she and her husband spent summers in
East Boothbay and winter seasons in Zephyrhills, Fla.. They lived
at the Clover Living Center in Auburn for several years, until
her husband died in 1992. Following her husband's death, she
moved to Canton near her son, ...... She was a member of
the Order of the Eastern Star, Pleasant Street Methodist Church,
Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and Auburn Methodist Church. A
daughter, Nancy Fitton, died in 1997. Survivors include two
sons and daughters-in-law, ..... She was the beloved "Grammie
by the boats" of 12 grandchildren; and is survived by 11
great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Pleasant
Street Methodist Church, Waterville, with burial following at
Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn. Arrangements are by Redington

At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, on Tuesday
October 7, 2003. Claudia Doreen Chase (Nee Giggie) of Bristol
passed away at the age of 73. Born in Bristol, Claudia was the
daughter of Lemuel and Melissa (Vandine) Giggie. Claudia is
survived by her husband Paul, daughters, Paulette (Raymond)
Crabbe, Carol Chase (Ken Brown), Rhonda (Alan) Poynton and Patti
Chase all of Bristol, sons, David (Connie) of Armond, James (Teresa)
of Red Deer, AB, John (Barbie) of Minnesota, Robert (Robyn) of
Keswick Ridge and Michael (Karen) of Halifax, 14 grandchildren,
three great grandchildren, sister, Liota Butterfield and
brothers, Alva and Vaughn Giggie. Predeceased by her parents, son
Donnie, sister Mary Ellen, brothers, Philip, Clayton and Coburn.

CHASE, RONALD F.
The death of of Ronald F. Chase of Hartin Settlement, husband of
Audrey P. (Dow) Chase, occurred unexpectedly on Wednesday,
September 24, 2003 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born in
Newburg, Carleton County, he was the son of the late C. Edward
and Eva M. (Lewis) Chase. Ron was a forester most of his working
life, and was a member of the Marne Baptist Church. In addition
to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Karen Chase of
Portland, Maine, and Carla Chase of Fredericton; sisters Norma
Ross of Woodstock, Ruth Furrow of Hartin Settlement, Barbara
Robichaud (Ronald) of Sunnyside Beach, Frances Briggs (Lewis) of
Meductic, and Susan McIntosh (Donald) of Fredericton; brothers
Douglas Chase (Bernice), of Stirling, Ontario, George Chase (Gloria)
of Meductic, and Ralph Chase (Rhona) of Hanwell; a brother-in-law,
Aubrey Dow (Mary) of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by a brother, Charles, in 1952. Resting at

April 1, 2002, he was 79. Roy Stanley Chase of Weston, NB was
born on April 21, 1922. He is survived by his five children,

Chase of Weston, NB, Shelia Smith (Raymond) of Creston, BC,
Sherman Chase (Stephanie) of Kennebunk, ME, and Stuart Chase of
Weston, NB, six grandchildren, Jason Woodworth, Wally, Bruce and
Mary Smith, Amanda and Chris Vose and one great-granddaughter,
Faith, two sisters, Jen Copp and Dora Gallop of Plaster Rock, NB

nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Kidney)

CHASE, STUART ALEXANDER -
At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on June 11, 2003,
with his beloved family by his side, Stuart Alexander Chase,
husband of Cynthia (Tyler) Chase went home to be with Jesus. He
will be remembered as a loving husband, adored Daddy, devoted
brother, caring and generous friend and faithful servant of his
Lord. Born in Woodstock, NB, he was the son of Wallace Chase and
the late Doris (Turner) Chase. Stuart was an Insurance Agent with
Clarica. He was an active member of the Marysville Baptist
Church, past Chairman of the DEPAC School District #18, and
served for four years on the SPAC at Barkers Point School. He
enjoyed golfing, traveling, and camping. In addition to his wife
and father, he is survived by, one daughter, Katelyn Chase at
home and one son, Tyler Chase at home; two brothers, Scott Chase
(Mary) of Island View and Chris Chase (Patricia) of Woodstock;
loving parents-in-law, Garnet and Violet Tyler; sisters-in-law,
Tammy (Chris) Price, Stacy (Craig) Hudson, Mindy (Kirk)
McMinniman; brother-in-law Ted (Karen Stone) Tyler, several
nieces and nephews, all of Fredericton. Besides his mother, he
was predeceased by one niece Shayelyn McMinniman and his maternal
great grandmother, Myrtle Price. Visitation will take place at
York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton North on
Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be
held from the Marysville Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14,
2003 at 2 pm with Rev. David DuBois officiating. Interment will

Christian, John B.
One of
Hartland's most popular residents, John Birdsel Christian died at
Hotel Dieu Hospital in Perth on Sunday, Nov. 27, after a lengthy
illness. Born at Simonds on Dec. 14, 1886, he was the youngest son of the late James D. and
Emma Davis Christion.
Mr. Christian's maternal ancestors came to Canada from England
and Scotland and his paternal ancestors from Denmark and the Isle
of Man. He was the last surviving member of the family.
Mr. Christian was employed in the United Farmers' stores at
both Woodstock and Hartland for a period of 31 years and had
retired about 10 years ago. He is survived by his wife,
Margaret May Hallett, whom he married in Sept. 1909; daughters,
Mrs. Clarence (Ruth) Hendry, Somerville and Fredericton; Helen E.,
Montreal; Mrs. Woodford (Maude) Craig, Hartland; Mrs. Eric (Ethel)
Bailey, Sawyerville, P.Q.; sons, Kenneth K., Napanee, Ont; J.
Howard, Fredericton; also three granddaughters, eight grandsons
and one great grandson.
The largely attended funeral was held on Wed. Nov. 30, from the
late home at 2 p.m., followed by services at the Primitive
Baptist Church at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Walter Campbell,
assisted by Rev. Philip Giberson. Funeral text was taken
from 14th chapter St. John. Mrs. Eileen Smith was organist
and the hymns "Pearly White City", "Transformed",
and "Shall We Meet Beyond the River", were sung by Mr.
and Mrs. Leon Cogswell, Fort Fairfield, Maine. The pall
bearers were two sons, Kenneth and Howard, and sons-in-law,
Clarence Hendry, Eric Bailey, Woodford Craig and Donald Hallett.
There were many floral tributes, also Gideon Bibles and
donations to cancer fund as well as donations to the Maplemount
Home for Children. Internment was made in the family lot in
Greenswood Cemetery.

CLAIR, MAXINE ELAINE (NOBLE) -
Maxine Elaine Claire died suddenly September 13, 2002 at her
residence. Maxine was born in Bristol, New Brunswick on November
13, 1919. She was the beloved wife of Eldon for 63 years. She is
survived by her twin sister Pauline Gallagher of Fredericton, New
Brunswick, and brothers Larry Noble, Zephyrhille, Conn.. She will
be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews as well as many
friends and neighbors. A private service was held at the Giffen-
Mack Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in Scarborough. Donations
to the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton Scholarship Fund
will be greatly appreciated by the family.

Audrey Mae Clark of Grafton passed away at Saint John Regional
Hospital in Saint John on Monday, September 22, 2003, at the age
of 71. Audrey is survived by her husband Richard Clark; three
sons, David (Mina) Clark of Toronto, ON; Paul (Cathy) Clark of
Toronto, ON; Bruce Clark of Ottawa, ON; two daughters, Linda (Gary)
Miller of Toronto, ON; Nancy (Kirk) DesRosier of Ottawa, ON; two
brothers, Fred Brooks of Halifax, NS; Frank (Lena) Brooks of
Kittery, Maine; one sister, Beryl (Philip) Perrigo of South Port,

CLARK, IRENE MARGARET
Of Fredericton passed away peacefully at her home on October 12,
2003. She was born in Woodstock, NB, eldest child of the late
Gordon and Gertrude (Reddal) Purvis. She was predeceased by her
beloved husband, Gartley and her brothers, Frank and Arnold.
Irene was the cherished mother of one son, Gordon (Jean) of
Ottawa, and two daughters, Wanda MacLean and Diane Fraser (Doug)
of Fredericton; beloved grandchildren to Misty Thomas (Joel) of
Saint John, John Clarke (Theresa) of Edmonton, Dana Jo Brownell,
(Paul) of Fredericton, David Clarke of Ottawa, Erica, Currie-Fraser,
of Chapel Hill, NC, Brittany and Tyler Fraser of Fredericton; and
much loved G.G. to great grandchildren, Cassandra and Jarrod
Thomas of Saint John. Irene is also survived by two sisters,
Edith Gibson of Woodstock and Bernice Cail of Fredericton, and
one brother, Edison Purvis (Jane) of Woodstock, and several
nieces and nephews. Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother,
and was an active member of the Gibson Memorial United Church and
the UCW for over 56 years. A past Matron and member of the Devon
Chapter # 37, Order of the Eastern Star, and an honorary member
of Celestial Chapter #3, OES, and was a past Grand Officer. She
loved to play bridge and was a member of the Hillcrest Bridge
Club. She also was an avid fisherwoman in her earlier years and
would often be seen landing a big salmon on the Miramichi while
Gartley looked on. A celebration of Irene's life will begin with
visitation at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, on
Wednesday, October 15th from 7-8 p.m. The memorial service will
be held at 2 p.m. from the Gibson Memorial United Church with Rev.
Boyd Vincent officiating. Interment to be held at a later date. A

CLARK (PATRICK), GLORIA LAURA -
77, Nine Mile River, NS. It is with great sorrow that we announce
the passing of Gloria peacefully at home on August 8, 2002. Born
in Benton, NB, she was the daughter of the late, Thomas and
Juanita (Mills) Patrick. Gloria grew up in Benton, Juniper and
Woodstock, NB. For a time, Gloria worked as a hairdresser in
Woodstock, NB. Then along with her husband Gerald, she owned and
operated Clarks Cleaners Ltd., in Woodstock, NB, and since the
early 1970\rquote s in Halifax, NS. Warm, generous, kind and
witty, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is
survived by sisters, Marjorie Knapp, Riverview, NB; Hilda Avery,
Scarborough, ON; Gretchen Welteroth, Williamsport, PA; brothers,
Leland Patrick, Nine Mile River, NS; Carl Patrick, Newmarket, ON;
ten nieces and nephews; thirteen grand nieces and nephews. Gloria
was predeceased by her husband, George Gerald Clark; brother,
Frank Patrick; sister, Annie Augusta Patrick. Cremation has taken

Mona Clark of Woodstock, NB on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Carleton
Memorial Hospital. Wife of the late Winston Clark.Born in

CLARK, RELLAND MANZER -
The death of Relland Manzer Clark, husband of the late F. Joan
Clark (Tarry) occurred on September 12, 2002, at Woodstock, NB,
at the age of 95 years. Born in Aroostook Jct. on March 26, 1907,
he was the
son of the late Manzer S. Clark and Dimereze (Pelkey). His brother Clinton Clark and
sisters Lela, Geneva, Runa and Kathleen also predeceased him. Dr.
Clark is survived by his daughter Dimereze Clark of Presque Isle
Maine, and son Simon Clark and wife Susan of Woodstock NB. He is
also survived by two granddaughters; Andrea J. (Daniel) Goodell
of York Maine, and Marie D. Grant of Presque Isle Maine; 2 step-grandchildren,
Simon and Michelle Partington of Woodstock NB; nephews, Leon (Mary
Ann) Thornton of Canterbury, David (Sheilah) Cronkite of Mahone
Bay, NS and Michael (Shirley) Clark of Upper Woodstock and nieces
Patty (Marc) Samson of Espanola Ont., Enid (Leonard) Draper of
Toronto Ont. and Winona (Vincent) Grant of Ottawa, Ont. Dr. Clark
served in the Canadian Army during World War II (1939-1946) in
the Carleton & York Regiment and other appointments. In 1937
he was one of four Officers who represented New Brunswick at the
Coronation of King George VI. Dr. Clark, a chiropractor who
practised in Woodstock for 52 years, also served as President of
New Brunswick and Maritimes Chiropractic Associations. He was
also President of the Woodstock Lions Club. Remains now resting
at the Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road,
Jacksonville NB, E7M-3S5. Funeral service will be held at the
Saint James United Church, Chapel Street, in Woodstock on
September 14, 2002 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can
be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #11. Legion service
will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday from the funeral home.

George A. Clark, 89, of Fairfield, died Sunday morning, Dec. 24,
2000, at a Waterville nursing facility.
He was born Oct. 22, 1911, in Summerfield, New Brunswick, Canada, son of the
late John D. Clark and Jenny Hamilton.
He married Hilda B. Weston on July 8, 1936, and they enjoyed 63
years of togetherness before she died March 24, 2000. The couple
moved from Summerfield in 1945.
He was employed 30 years by various dairy farms in the area,
retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, where he
was an usher for years, served on the board of trustees, was a
Men's Club and the Couple's Club member.
He was a member of the Siloam Lodge 92, Ancient, Free &
Accepted Masons, in Fairfield and served as master, on the Board
of Trustees, and in other capacities during his 50-plus years of
membership.
He was a member and patron of Merrymeeting Chapter, Order of the
Eastern Star. He was a member of the Past Matrons and Past
Patrons Club.
He served on the original board of directors of the Police
Athletic League in Fairfield in the 1950s.
He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox with his wife and attended
local high-school sports events.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Carleton and Ralph Green, and
a sister, Thelma Clark.
Survivors include a son, Richard B. Clark, and his wife, Blanche,
of Fairfield; a daughter, Linda M. Clark, of Fairfield; four
brothers, John Clark, of Clinton, Glenn, Mavor, and Leslie Clark,
all of Albion; two grandchildren, Eric B. Clark and Michelle L.
Clark; four great-grandchildren, Karlie and Tragen Clark, and
Dustin and Dylan Brown; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St.,
Fairfield, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Fairfield
United Methodist Church, U.S. Route 201, Fairfield, with the Rev.
Thomas Bentum officiating. Spring burial will be made at
Maplewood Cemetery, Fairfield

— Arnold "Hamy" Clinton Hamilton Sr.,
81,
died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at a Madison nursing home after a long
battle with cancer. He was born July 22, 1920, at Middle
Greenfield, Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada,
the son of Percy
and Winnifred (Lunn) Hamilton. His mother
died when he was seven years old. He moved to Albion with his
father in 1935, graduating from Besse High School in Albion,
class of 1941.
He worked on the family farm with his father until 1946, tested
milk for a year, and drove a tractor-trailer for St.Johnsbury in
Waterville for five years. He drove a milk truck for Woodland
Dairy from Skowhegan to Watertown, Mass., for seven years and
then worked for Fox & Ginn for 21 years. He also worked for
Alsko Air Freight and Bart Air Freight, and worked as a part time
driver for Redington Funeral Home in Waterville.
He was active in sports in school but especially enjoyed baseball.
He was an avid gardener and reader and enjoyed the outdoors. He
was a member of the Maine Snowmobile Association and was recently
a member of the Heart of Maine Square Dance Club. He was Past
Master of the Albion Grange and belonged to the Pomona, State and
National Granges.
He was
predeceased by a brother, Harry, who died at age 16 in 1942, a
brother, Burton, who passed away several years ago, and a sister,
Lillian, who died in 2001.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty J. (Colbath)
Hamilton of Clinton; two sons, Arnold "Sonny" Jr. and
wife, Jane, of Albion, and David and wife, Jane, of Skowhegan; a
sister, Hildred Antworth, of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada;
five grandchildren and a great grandson; seven stepchildren,
Deborah Taylor and husband, Roy, Robert Hartford and wife,
Earlene, all of Dover-Foxcroft, Susan McCormick and husband,
Michael, James Hartford and wife, Lynn, all of Dexter, Lynda
Patterson and husband, Jerry, of Lamoine, Lorna Leighton and
husband, Dwane, of Stetson, and Greg Hartford of Franklin;
several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and
nephews. He also loved his three cats and they will miss him very
much. Hamy will also be sadly missed by long time friends, Pat
and Dana Hunter of Hinkley.

service and committal will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in

CLOWATER, Douglas Calvin
The passing of Douglas Calvin Clowater, 40, of Centerville, New
Brunswick, occurred unexpectedly at the Northern Carleton
Hospital, Bath, N.B. on Sunday, July 9, 1998. Born the eldest son of the late Calvin P.
Clowater and Shirley (Crain) Clowater. Douglas was a 1975
graduate of Centerville High School and attended Moncton Tech
School. He was employed with East Coast Distributing,
Fredericton, N.B. until his employment with Thomas Equipment,
Centerville, N.B. In 1981 he was transferred as office
manager to McCain Foods Limited, Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba.
In 1986 he returned to McCain Produce, Florencville, N.B.
until his passing thus giving him 22 years with the McCain Group.
Douglas was a life long member of the Centerville United Baptist
Church. He was an avid support of Camp Shiktehawk,
Due to his dedicated support a cabin will be erected in his
memory. He was also active in various civic organizations.
His dedicated service will be greatly missed. Douglas is
survived by his wife of thirteen years Marlene... Clowater; one
son..., one daughter..., his mother Shirley Clowater,
Centerville, N.B. one sister..., three brothers....
He was predeceased by his father Calvin P. Clowater in 1988....
He also leaves to mourn his Manitoba family.... Funeral service
was held at Centerville Untied Baptist Church on Wednesday, July
22, 1998 with Pastor Dale Carson officiating. The prelude
by church organist Gerald Boyer and church pianist Annie-Laurie
MacMillan was gracefully rendered. Musical selections
"For You I am Waiting", by Shirley Graham and "Tears
Will Never Stain The Streets Of That City" by Andy Drier
were beautifully sung. "In Times Like These" was sung
by the congregation. The eulogy was delivered by Mitch
MacMillan, Centerville, N.B. A touching poem was composed
by Aunt Clarice Clowater, Bridgewater, Maine. U.S.A. Pallbearers
were Vernon Thomas, Stephen McCain, Dale McCarthy, Charlie
Fisher, Lynn Kinney and Clifford Crain. Following the
service interment was in the United Baptist Church Cemetery.
The large attendance at the funeral service and the many
charitable donations were eloquent testimonies to the love and
respect in which Douglas was held. Funeral arrangements

CLUFF, FLORENCE GRAY GIBSON
Florence Gray Gibson Cluff passed away in her 90th year on
November 19 at the Woodstock Hospital. She was the daughter of
the late William
A. Gibson and Jessie E. (Gray) Gibson and the widow of Hollis V. Cluff. Survived by
her niece Beverley Gibson Richardson (Paul) of Kanata, Ontario,
four great nieces and three great nephews. Her sister Janie R.
Anderson, brother Howard E. Gibson, nephews Clinton Gibson and
Richard Gibson, and two great nephews pre-deceased her. Florence
was a graduate of Woodstock High School and the New Brunswick
Normal School. She started her teaching career at the age of 19
and taught in several areas in New Brunswick, followed by 12
years in British Columbia where she retired after 47 years in a
profession she loved. On retirement, Florence and Hollis returned
to Jacksonville, New Brunswick. After Hollis's death in 1986, she
was one of the original residents at Windsor Court in Fredericton
which was her home for 13 years. During the past few months, she
was a resident of Carleton Manor in Woodstock.. Many thanks to
the staff at Windsor Court, Carleton Manor, Chalmers Hospital,
Minto River Valley Health Centre and the Woodstock Hospital for
the care given to her. Also for the compassionate care of Dr.
Mutrie and Dr. K. Srinivosan. Florence was the adopted mother and
grandmother at the home of Marg and Keith Allen where she enjoyed
many special times. She was a member of Wilmot Street United
Church in Fredericton, Order of Eastern Star Celestial Chapter #
3 and the NB Retired Teachers' Association. A memorial service
will be held at The Culberson Funeral Chapel, 188 Connell Street,
Woodstock, at 11:00 a.m. on November 29, 2003 with visitation
prior to the service. A private interment will follow at
Jacksonville United Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Rotary Camp or charity of choice.

Laura Robinson Cogswell, 92, of Somerville passed away suddenly
on Wednesday, July 10, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and
Annie (Pratt) Fowler. She
was predeceased by two husbands, Fred S. Robinson and Elwood H.
Cogswell. She is survived by children Pauline Robinson of
Florenceville, Glenna Wright of Yellowknife, NWT, Laurene Goddard
of Moncton, Arthur Robinson (Marilyn) of Saint John, thirteen

Paul Delbert Cogswell, 65 of Saint John, N.B. died peacefully on
October 4, 2002 at home surrounded by his family after a
courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Cogswell was born in
Waterville, NB, son
of the late Arthur and Margaret (Flowers) Cogswell. He was a former supervisor at
the Sugar Refinery until his retirement in 1994 with 38 years of
service. Del will be sadly missed by his wife Ruth (Little) and

COLLICOTT, SARAH MAE -
The death of Sarah Mae Collicott of Woodstock and formerly of
Canterbury occurred at Carleton Memorial Hospital, Woodstock on
May 24, 2002. She was the wife of the late Fred H. Collicott.
Born at Dover Hill, Victoria Co., NB on May 1, 1914, she was the
daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (McManus) Cassidy.
Predeceased by her husband Fred in 1977, her parents and her
sister Agnes. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Lorette,
Fredericton; a brother-in-law, Gerald Collicott (Esther),
Halifax, NS; several cousins; her Collicott nieces and nephews
and her many friends. She was a teacher, having taught in many
New Brunswick schools including Grand Falls, Plaster Rock, Bath
and Canterbury. Sarah Mae was an avid letter-writer,
corresponding with family and her many friends from the Ridge
Manor Campground in Florida where she spent twenty-five winters.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Thomas Catholic
Church, Canterbury and was an historian at the St. Francis of
Assisi Shrine, Skiff Lake. Each year she donated a handmade
afghan to be raffled, with the proceeds going to the upkeep of
the Shrine. Her hands were seldom idle, doing knitting,
crocheting and tatting which she enjoyed giving to others. After
the death of her husband Fred, she completed and published the
Collicott Geneology which she had started. Mass of the Christian
Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 14 Mill
Street, Canterbury on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. Celebrant Father
Dan Melanson. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. For those
who wish to make a donation in memory of Sarah, the family has
suggested the St. Thomas Catholic Church Building Fund or a

PRESQUE ISLE - Eliza Jean Cook, 87,died Jan. 22,
2001, at a Presque Isle hospital. Mrs. Cook was born on April 19,
1913, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, the daughter of John and
Laura (Purington) Currie. She was a member of the Presque Isle
Congregation of Jehvovah's Witnesses. Mrs. Cook was a graduate of
the Presque Isle General Hospital Nursing School and the
Children's Hospital of Portland in 1933. She is survived by a
son, Edward B. Case of Caldwell, Idaho. She is also survived by
four stepchildren, John Cook of Caribou, Thomas Cook of Presque
Isle, Catherine McDaniel of Phoenix, Ariz. and Christine Malloy
of St. Martin, Calif. She was predeceased by her first husband,
Edward B. Case in 1948, and by her second husband, Donald M. Cook
in 1978. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will
be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Presque Isle
Jehovah's Witnesses Hall, Houlton Road. Donations may be made to
the local building fund of Jehovah's Witnesses in Presque Isle.

CORCORAN, LEO CLARENCE JOSEPH SR. -
Leo Clarence Joseph Corcoran Sr., 53, of Woodstock and formerly
of Holmesville, NB, passed away at his home on Friday, November
29, 2002. He was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Doherty
Corcoran.
Leo is survived by his children Jill (Sterling) McIntosh of Bath,
David of Fredericton and Leo Jr. of Holmesville and their mother
Georgina Corcoran of Holmesville, sisters, Theresa (George)
LeVasseur of Oromocto, Mary Ellen Corcoran of Holmesville and
Elizabeth (James) Allison of Campbellton, sister in law Joy
Corcoran of Holmesville. Predeceased by his parents and brother
Joseph. Remains resting at Kilcollins Funeral Home, Bath,
visiting Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of the Christian Burial will
be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM from St. John the Evangelist
Church Johnville with Rev. Keith Nielsen. Interment to take place
in the Johnville Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be
made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Carleton County
Food Bank.

Nackawic, passed away October 18, 2002 at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital. born at Nackawic on January 11, 1939, she was
a daughter
of Evelyn (MacDonald) Corey and the late Clifford Corey. Dr. Corey is survived by her
mother of Nackawic; a sister Marion Kirkpatrick (Howard),
Woodstock; a brother David Corey (Edna), Nackawic; several
nieces, nephews and cousins. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home,
585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, with visiting hours Saturday from 7-9 p.m.
and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at

and 21 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Wendall D.

Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Monday,
December 17, 2001. Born on June 30, 1915 in Hartland NB, she was the daughter of the late Clyde
and Mary (Long) Rideout. She graduated from Hartland High School in
1913, Provincial Normal School, Toronto Bible College and Hickox
Secretarial School of Boston. She was a teacher in NB and a
Secretary in Boston, Mass. and Albany NY. She was a resident of
Wentworth Ave, Riverview since 1977. Marion a member of the
Whitepine United Baptist Church and involved in Women's
Missionary Society, Senior Bible Study & Prayer Group. She is
survived by daughter Carolyn Campbell (Gordon) of Liverpool, NS;
sons, Frederic (Sandy) of Winnipeg, Chris (Ju) of Fredericton;
grandchildren, Andrea, Charles (Chuck), Bryan, Lisa and Kevin;
two sisters, Margaret Hoyt (Rev. Burton) of Houlton, Maine and
Doris Degrass of Brantford, ON; half-sister Elizabeth Rideout
Palmer (David) of United Arab Emirates; halfbrother, David
Rideout (Jeanne) of Barrie, ON; several nieces, nephews and

Basil I. Crabbe, 69, died Tuesday at his home in Unity following
a long illness. He was born in Cloverdale, New Brunswick, Canada,
Aug. 20, 1918, son of Willard and Nina ( Prosser ) Crabbe. He was
employed for many years with the Cianbro Corp., Pittsfield, and
was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife,
Darlene ( Nichols ) Crabbe of Unity; one son, Barry Crabbe of
Benton; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne ( Sue ) Ripley of Rehobeth,
Mass., and Mrs. Ted ( Gay ) Leighton of Monroe; one sister, Donna
Bagley of Beverly, Mass.; two brothers, Clayton Crabbe of New
Brunswick, Canada, and Harry Crabbe of Fort Meyers, Fla.; five
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. One
brother, Carvel Crabbe, and three sisters, Grace Grass, Della
Carter, and Doris Crabbe, all died previously.

The death occurred on February 21 at her home in Debec, N. B. of
Miss Elizabeth Crabbe. She was of a kind and generous disposition
and made her home with her parents whom she cared for in their
declinging years. She is survived by 3 sisters Mrs. B. J.
Lenehan, Houlton, ME, Mrs. Louise Denning, Debec; Miss M. T.
Crabbe, St. Stephen and 2 brothers James A., Debec and John of
Los Angeles. Another brother predeceased her in January. The
funeral was held from St. Agnes Church with High Mass of Requiem
sung by Rev. P. A. MacFarlane and interment was in the adjoining
cemetery. The pallbearers were Clinton Kelly, Thomas Kennedy,
Bernard Griffin and Joseph Crabbe.

OBITUARY, Francis Crabbe Francis Crabbe, the well known C.P.R.
engineer died 4 o'clock on Saturday morning after a 10 day
illness from grippe and heart disease. He is survived by
wife and three children. His one year old child died on
Wednesday. Deceased was a perfect specimen of
manhood, standing over 6 ft tall, weighing 240 pounds, and was
one of the strongest men in town. A clean living man and
general favourite, his sudden death shows the uncertainty of life. A
special train left Woodstock at one o'clock on Sunday afternoon
containing the body, hundreds of railway men and citizens in
general for Debec, where was witnessed one of the largest
funerals ever held there. After services by Rev. C. J.
MacLaughlin in the church were he was baptised 35 years ago, the
buriel took place in the Catholic cemetery adjoining and thus
passed one of the most popular of the Railway Boys.

The death of James Crabbe of Debec, Carleton County, occurred at
the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Eldon Kerr, Oak Mountain, on
March 18. He was 84 years of age. He was a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Crabbe, of Debec, and had been a resident
there all his life. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. Wilmer Alward and
one son, Joseph Crabbe; one sister, Mrs. James Denin, Debec; one
brother, John Crabbe, Ashland, Oregon. His wife, the former Miss
Ellen Dugan of Bath, died 19 years ago. The funeral was held from
the residence of Mrs. Kerr to St. Agnes Church in Debec where
High Mass of Requiem was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Donald S.
Gillis. The pallbearers were Theodore Griffin, Gerald Pickard,
Harry McCoomb, Robert McDonald, Ensley Porter and Thomas Kennedy.
Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery with prayers at the grave by
Father Gillis.

OBITUARY, Mrs. James Crabbe
The sudden
death of Mrs. James Crabbe, aged 59 years, occurred February 13,
at her residence at Debec, Carleton Co., NB, after an illness of
a few weeks, but her death was unexpected and was a great shock
to her family and community. She was the daughter of the
late Hanora and Patrick Dugan of Johnville. She leaves to
mourn her husband and three children, Rheta, Mary and Joseph all
at home. Also four sisters and three brothers: Mrs.
Stephen McNichol, Miss Catherine and Johanna Dugan of Lynn, Mass.,
and Miss Bridget Dugan of Bath, N.B.; John, Timothy and Daniel,
all of Bath. The funeral was held from her
residence to St. Agnes Church at Debec, on Tuesday morning, at 9:30,
where requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Dean McLaughlin with
interment in the Catholic cemetery.
The
pallbearers were John Dugan, Thomas Kelly, John Pickard, John
Whalen, James McGann, and Frank O'Donnell.

Illness At Debec Miss M. T. Crabbe, a woman who for
54 years helped shape the lives of many young men and women along
the St. Croix River, passed away Monday, February 19, at 82 years
of age at the home of her sister Mrs. J. P. Denning, Debec,
Carleton County. Conducted School 54 Years Miss
Crabbe was principal of the St. Stephen Business College, which
opened its doors in September 1896 and continued to play a
prominent part in the education of youth in the community until
it ended classes in the spring of 1950. Students of her
school have gone out to positions of trust and responsibility in
Canada and the U.S. and business firms relied on her
recommendation without hesitation.
The original
site of the school was in the Barker Block corner of Water and
Main Sts. but two years after opening it was moved to the Bonners
Building over the store of Iveber and Grimmer, since destroyed by
fire, at the site where now stands the store of C.A. O'Brien and
Son. Keenly Interested In
1914 when the Olsen Building was erected the institution made its
final move to headquarters over the Stedman Store, where Miss
Crabbe taught commercial and stenographic subjects for 34 years. Miss
Crabbe was always interested in the welfare of her graduates and
she derived her greatest pleasure from calls and letters from
former students telling her of their success in their occupations.
The fact that frequently business offices needed no further
recommendations than a certificate of graduation or diploma from
St. Stephen Business College testifies to the esteem in which she
was held by employers. Every graduate knew that before a
diploma was presented work had to be completed. Ill Since Christmas When
the school closed, Miss Crabbe returned to her former home in
Debec where she fell ill at Christmas. She passed away
Monday morning. She is survived by two brothers,
James of Debec, and John W. of Klamath Falls, Ont.; and two
sisters, Mrs. J. P. Denning, Debec and Mrs. B. E. Lenihan,
Houlton, Me. Two nephews and two nieces also survive. The
funeral was held yesterday morning at Debec and interment took
place there.

CRABBE, NEVILLE J.
The death of Neville James Crabbe, of 17 Ferris Road, Red Rapids,
N.B. E7H 2A1 occurred at home on February 14, 2003. Born August
17, 1927 in Riverbank, N.B.,
the son of Harold and Helen
Crabbe of Riverbank.
Neville attended Florenceville Schools and in 1943 joined the
merchant marines. After the war in 1946 Neville returned to work
in the family sawmill business. In 1947, Neville Married Audrey
Stephenson of Florenceville. Over the next 55 years, Neville
lived in Florenceville, Bristol and Arthurette and worked in the
wood products industry all of his life. Neville was very active
throughout his life in service clubs, an ardent fly fisherman,
hunter, guide, ball player, dart player, canoe poler, woodsman
and friend of many people. Neville is survived by daughters,
Sharon Brodbeck (Chris) of Fredericton, Shelley Bulmer (Banford)
of Bristol; sons, Harold Crabbe (Paula) of Bristol, Stephen
Crabbe (Joanne) of St. Andrews; sisters, Audrey Clark (Hal) of
Halifax, Avis Savage (Ed) of Lakeville; brothers, Deane Crabbe (Joyce)
of Bristol and Paul Crabbe of Fredericton and Neville's loving
companion Barbara Guest of Arthurette; grandchildren, Lindsay
LePage and Lisa Lepage, Fredericton, Jennifer, Snihur, Bristol,
Sarah Crabbe Calgary, Jesse Bulmer, Perth, Alex Bulmer, Bristol,

The death occurred at he home in Debec, after three days of
illness of pneumonia, of Mrs. Richard Crabbe,Sr., in her 89th
year. She was a woman of gentle, kind disposition, devoting her
life to home and family.The funeral took place on Sunday
afternoon from the church of St.Agnes in Debec, followed by a
large number of people, to pay their respects to one who had been
a life-long resident in their midst. Her life was best described
in the words of the text, chosen by Re. C. J. Mclaughlin: "She
was greatly renowned among all, because she feared the Lord very
much, neither was there anyone that spoke an ill word of her,
Judith V111, 8th." Her life he said, from the beginning was
a preparation for her last end, and she ever retained that
simplicity of faith in God so characteristic of the people of her
generation. Devoted to her family, home,and church, she had left
to all the example of an ideal wife and mother. Faithful in life,
she was faithful unto death. We speak, he said, of heroes and
heroines on the battle field, we speak of Judith, Esther and
Ruth, but are these not removed from the scenes of the world
strife and unknown, presiding over the sanctuary of our Christian
homes, mothers whose courage, devotedness and self-sacrifice
would equal that of our noblest heroines. The large concourse of
friends and relatives following her remains were , he said, the
best testimony of a devoted and well spent life. She is
survived by her age husband, six daughters and three sons: Mrs. B.
Lenehan, of Houlton; Mrs . F. A.Dugan, of Homesville; Mrs.
Jas. Kelly,of Lakeville; Mrs. James Dennin, of Maxwell; M.T.
Crabbe, of St. Stephen; James of Debec; John of McGill,
Nevada., who has been visiting his aged parents, for the past
seven months, Thomas and Elizabeth at home.

After an illness of only a few days the death of Richard Crabbe
took place at his late residence in Debec. He was the last
surviving member of one of the pioneer families whose parents
came from the British Isles. Although deceased was in his 93 rd
year, he was still keen in intellect and never ceased to
keep informed of events, through reading and conversation.
In politics he was a Liberal. His untiring industry and
uprightness and the good will shown towards his fellow men
without regard to creed, made him a valuable member in the
community of which he was a life long resident. His family
are: Mrs. B Lenehan, of Houlton; Mrs. Margaret Kelly,
Hartland; Mrs. James Dennin, Debec; John W., Los Angeles;
James H., Debec; Mrs. M.T. Crabbe, St.Stephen; Elizabeth and
Thomas at home, besides several grand children. His wife
predeceased him five years ago. The funeral took place
Thursday from his home to St. Agnes Church, where a high mass of
requiem was said by Rev. J. C. McLaughlin. Interment was made in
the adjoining cemetery.

On Wednesday, June 5th, the death of Mrs. Richard Crabb occurred
at her home in Richmond. Her death after a few days illness from
pneumonia came as a great surprise to all. She was in her 44th
year, and was the daughter
of Mrs. Laurence Keefe of Lakeville. She leaves to mourn her sad loss
her husband and seven children. She was much esteemed by a large
circle of friends and acquaintances, and her funeral which took
place in the Catholic Cemetery at Debec Junction on Saturday
morning, was one of the largest in that vicinity for some time.

A long and useful life came to a close early Sunday evening, May
20th, when Richard A. Crabb retired Debec farmer, died after a
brief illness, of his daughter, Mrs. Jennie McGuire, Broadway,
Woodstock. Mr. Crabb was in his ninety-four year, having been
born in Debec January 31, 1858. He was the son of the late William and
Ellen Crabb.
After a successful farming career of over 60 years he sold his
farm a few years ago and retired from active work. Despite his
advanced years he retained possession of all his faculties to a
remarkable degree and was about until only a few days before his
death. Surviving are three sons, Roy; Don; and Clayton; two
daughters, Mrs. Arthur Kallenberg, Calais, Maine, and Mrs. Jennie
McGuire, Woodstock; thirty grandchildren and fifteen great
grandchildren. High mass of Reqiem was sung at St. Agnes Catholic
Church in Debec on Tuesday morning with the Rev. Father Gillis
officiating. Interment was in the family lot in St. Agnes
Cemetary, Debec. The pallbearers were Arthur Kallenberg, Donald
Rush, Edward Lawson and Bernard Griffin.

Los Angeles. The funeral was held from his late residence to St.

William Henry Crabbe, died at his home at Debec, on Nov. 11 at
the age of 73, after a lingering illness. He was born at Debec, N.
B., August 3, 1881, son of the late Henry Crabbe, and
Elizabeth Rush. He was a life-long resident of Debec, and
he was a member of St. Agnes Parish and the Holy Names Society.
He was married to Mary McInerney of Saint John, who died November
1, 1937. By this marriage, four children were born, two of whom
survive, Mrs. Marie Allaire (?) of Sanford, Maine, and Donald
Crabbe, of Debec. He is also survived by his wife, the former
Genevieve Carten, formerly of Fredericton, N. B., one sister, Mrs.
Margaret Fitzpatrick, Houlton, Maine, and one brother John
Crabbe, of Northampton, Mass. Eight grandchildren, and several
nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral was held November 13,
from the residence to St. Agnes Church for High Mass of Requiem
celebrated by the pastor, Rev. D. S. Gillis. The pallbearers were
Ronald Crabbe, Anthony and Gordon Fitzpatrick, nephews, and Harry
McComb, Frank O'Donnell and David Griffin. Interment was in the
family lot in St. Agnes Cemetery with prayers at the grave by
Father Gillis.

Mabel May Crocco, of Woodstock, New Brunswick, who passed away on
June 14, 2002 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Crocco was
born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on September 10, 1901, daughter of the late William J.
and Margaret M. (Laws) Salter. Mrs. Crocco is the last
surviving member of her immediate family. She is predeceased by
her husband Peter Michael Crocco, daughter Marie Spicer, son
James F.H. Crocco, sister Lillian Fleet, brothers Thomas and
William Salter. Survived by grandchildren James Spicer, Catherine
Olsen, Peter Crocco, Leslie LaPage, James Crocco, eleven great
grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Resting at The

CRISP, JAMES R. -
James Robert (Jim) Crisp, husband of Valerie (Langdon) Crisp,
passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, July
18, 2002, at the age of 79. Born in Waterville, NB, he was the son of the late Rev. Spencer and
B. Faye (Hallett) Crisp. Jim attended Mount Allison University and
worked in the Insurance Industry for most of his career ending
with State Farm Insurance and for a period before his retirement,
he was employed the Corps. of Commissionaires at the Coast Guard
as a W.O.I.. He was a WWII veteran and served in the RCAF as a
Lieutenant for the Pathfinders 405 Squadron and was a P.O.W.,
first President, in 1950 for the RCAF Association (105 Cumberlain
Wing), member of the RCL Jervis Bay Branch #53 and the Air Force
Association, # 250 of Saint John. Charter member of the Simonds
Lions Club and Past President, one of the founding members of the
Loch Lomond Villa Inc. He enjoyed building boats and salmon
fishing. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Rev. Robert
Crisp (Tammy \lquote Elizabeth\rquote ) of Calgary and Jeffrey
Crisp of Saint John, two grandsons, David and Matthew of Calgary,
several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one
son Jimmy. Resting at Brenan\rquote s Select Community Funeral
Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on
Saturday only, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at

Arnold E. Cronkhite of Nackawic passed away January 11, 2003 at
Carleton Manor. Born at Southampton, on December 12, 1916, he was
a son of
the late Perley and Bessie (MacDonald) Cronkhite. He was a carpenter by trade.
He was a member of Woodstock Mansonic Lodge for 57 years. Arnold
was a devoted father and grandfather and is survived by two
daughters, Susan Peterson (Dale) of Woodstock, and Jo Ann
Cronkhite (Wayne) of Temperance Vale; a son, Joe Cronkhite of
Nackawic; a sister, Ruth Caverhill of Nackawic; a brother, Allen
Cronkhite (Juanita) of Nackawic; eight grandchildren, Beth Ann
Marr (Mike), Michael Cronkhite, Danielle Kinjerski (Kris), Peter
Cronkhite, Caitlin Cronkhite, Kyle Cronkhite, Kasie Peterson and

CROPLEY, WILFRED STERLING (BUD) The death of Wilfred Sterling (Bud)
Cropley of Fredericton occurred on Monday, September 29, 2003 at
the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in St. Croix, he
was the son of the late R. Wesley and Mae (Hall) Cropley. Bud
taught in many schools in New Brunswick, including in Meductic,
Woodstock, Perth-Andover, and the Kingston Penninsula. He later
worked as an accountant for Paul Embleton. Bud was a very musical
person who could play many instruments, and was a former member
of the Burtt's Corner Community Band and the Woodstock Legion
Band. A Veteran of World War II, Bud served his country overseas
with the Princess Louise's 8th Hussars in Italy and Continental
Europe. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for more
than 55 years, in Woodstock Branch # 11 and Fredericton Branch #
4. Bud also enjoyed golfing. He is survived by a sister, Alma
Dickinson of Fredericton; a brother-inlaw Joseph Neale of
Calgary; and several nieces and nephews. Bud was predeceased by
brothers Richard (Dick) Cropley and Wayne Cropley; and by sisters
Bernice McAleer, Elizabeth (Beth) Neale, and Hester Cropley.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive
at Douglas Avenue, Fredericton North, on Thursday from 2-4 PM. A
graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM at
the Legion Section of the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. The Venerable
Walter Williams will officiate. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute
Service will be conducted by the members of Branch # 11 at the

CULBERT, Francis P. - passed away April 6, 2005. He was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 15, 1921, a son of the late Patrick E. and Helena (Gallagher) Culbert. He was educated in Lowell public schools and graduated from Lowell High School. He also received many certificates in statistical math from Sunoco Products Co. During World War II, Mr. Culbert served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the 260th and 373rd Corps of Engineers. He was stationed in England, France, and other parts of Europe. He received an honorable discharge after his military service. He was a recipient of numerous decorations and medals, including the World War II D-day Commemorative, World War II Battle of the Bulge Commemorative, the Cold War Commemorative Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. He also received three Bronze battle stars and a special diploma from the Secretary of Defense of France for his contribution in the fight to liberate France during the June 6, 1944, landing at Normandy. He was a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He worked at J.J. Newbury's in Lowell and in Springfield, Vt., and before retiring was a quality control supervisor for Sunoco Products Co. in Lowell. He also owned Culbert's Variety store on University Avenue and A Belvidere Florist on Rogers Street, both in Lowell. He was a parish member of St. Rita Church in Lowell. Mr. Culbert was a member of the American Legion Post 100 Pelham, the American Society for Quality Control American Valley Section, the Pawtucketville Social Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 19 of Lowell. He was an active fund-raiser for the American Heart Fund, the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society. Mr. Culbert was an avid golfer and for many years enjoyed summers at Silver Sands Campground, Chester, N.H., and for the last three years at Calef Lake Campground in Auburn, N.H. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Marie and Christian Castner of China, Maine and Westford; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick and Judith (Dean) Culbert of Pelham, John Culbert Sr. and Linda (Bently) Culbert of Lowell, Timothy Culbert of Winthrop, Maine, Joseph Culbert of Lowell and James Culbert, of Manchester, N.H. Mr. Culbert also leaves 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Madeline (Culbert) Vincent; grandfather of the late Stephen Joseph Culbert; and great-grandfather of the late Ella Marie Spychalski. and engaging anyone who dropped in for a visit in a spirited
debate on a wide range of topics. He was an avid reader,
historian, and genealogist. Joe left a wealth of information for

At his residence, on Saturday, July 27, 2002; Richard Murray
Cullen of the Turnbull Nursing Home, husband of Veronica Mary (Brayall)
Cullen of 62 years. Born in Johnville, NB he is the son of the late Dennis and
Briget (Irvine) Cullen. Richard married Veronica in 1940 and moved to
Saint John in 1942. He was employed with L.E. Shaw Concrete Ltd
for over 20 years as a fork lift operator, retiring in 1984 at
the age of 69. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Assumption
Church. Surviving in addition to his wife Veronica are his
children Anna Marie Washburn (David), Ron, Murray (Beth),
grandchildren, Travis, Tyson, Tyler, Trent Washburn, Christopher
and Johnathan Cullen, great grandson Brandon Washburn, brother
Harold Cullen of Boston, Mass, many nieces and nephews. Richard
was also predeceased by brothers William, Patrick, Peter, Dennis,

CUMMINGS, HAYWARD MURRAY
Hayward Murray Cummings, born October 16, 1921 in Southampton,
passed away peacefully on October 19, 2002 at Carleton Memorial
Hospital in Woodstock. Hayward grew up on the family farm in
Southampton and served overseas in the military during the Second
World War. After returning, he worked with his family in their
lumber and construction business. He married Greta Griffiths on
July 12, 1947. After his retirement, he enjoyed working in his
woodlots, gardening, sugaring, attending church / community
functions and always being there for his family and friends. He
is dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his wife and
children, Barb (Dana) Fox, Sharon (Bob) Morrison, Ashley (Margie)
Cummings, Nancy McLaughlin, Jeffrey (Brenda) Cummings, Lisa (Jamie)
Grasse and Julie (Brent) Goddard; 17 grandchildren, Tim, Danita,

Maj. Donald W., (Ret.) U.S. Army Reserve, 75
PALMYRA - Major Donald W. Curtis, 75, (ret) U.S. Army Reserve,
died Nov. 13, 2000, at a Bangor hospital.
He was born May 2, 1925, at Bristol, New Brunswick, Canada, the
son of George and Ella (Elkins)
Curtis.
He was a
graduate of Aroostook Central Institute, attended aircraft school
at Quoddy Head and was a graduate of Officer Candidate School. A
veteran of World War II, Don also served in the European Theater
as part of the Army of Occupation. He served 20 years of active
duty overseas in Germany, Newfoundland, and Iran, and later
stateside, retiring from the Bangor Army Reserve Center in 1963.
After retiring from the military he worked as a quality control
inspector for Edwards Corporation in Pittsfield, and later, as a
self-employed upholsterer at Old Tavern Upholstery. His interests
included gardening, photography, the outdoors, carpentry,
reading, traveling, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ida Joyce (Green) Curtis
of Palmyra; his children, Carl G. and wife, Sheila (Howland)
Curtis of Hudson, N.H., and their children, Bryan, Russell, and
Carla Curtis; Patricia L. and husband, Gary Jordan of Richmond,
and their children, Heather and Chris Jordan; Gary W. Curtis and
his companion, Susan McMillan of Newport, Gary's son, Christopher
Curtis, and Chris's infant daughter; Richard L. and wife, Celeste
(Violette) Curtis, and children, Terra, Garrett and Avery Curtis;
Donna and husband, Dale Holden of Madison, and their children,
Nathan Cardozo, Cassidy and Haley Holden; siblings, Audrey
Knowles of Bucksport, Albert and Janice Curtis of Waldo, George
Curtis and Robert Curtis of New Haven, Conn.; many nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ina Curtis. Family
visitation will be private. Graveside services, with full
military honors, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in
Palmyra Village Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.

CURRIE, ARTHUR GORDON -
81, of Salisbury passed away Thursday November 6, 2003 at the
Moncton Hospital. Born at Woodstock he was a son of the late
Robert E. and Grace (Williams ) Currie. Arthur was a Veteran of
the Second World War having served with the RCAF in Continental
Europe and Africa as a wireless operator. He retired from the
Federal Government as a Adjudicator with the Employment Insurance
Department. He was a member of The Salisbury United Church, a
life member of the Riverview Veteran's Association, a member of
the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 31, Salisbury and the Senior
Hamm Radio Operator's Club (VE1HW). Survived by his beloved wife
of 46 years Jean (Ash), daughter Kimberly Leffley (Terry) of
Salisbury, cherished granddaughters Kristen and Holly Leffley, a
dear sister Muriel Cluff of Woodstock and several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Linda Lee Currie (1974)
and brothers Robert and Ralph Currie. The family will receive
relatives and friends at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350
Salisbury Road (372-4800) on Sunday evening 7-9 p.m. The
Riverview Veteran's Association will conduct a memorial tribute,
Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. The Funeral will be held
from the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday November 10 at 1:30 p.m.
with Rev. K. Zwicker officiating. Interment at Fairhaven
Cemetery, Moncton. If so desired memorials to the Friends of the
Moncton Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice may be made
in Arthur's memory.

CURRIE, HAZEL IRENE -
Of Woodstock passed away at Carleton Memorial Hospital in
Woodstock on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the age of 85. Hazel is
survived by two sons, Gordon E. (Elizabeth) Currie of Orono, ON;
H. Keith (Eunice) Currie of Shellbrook, Sask; two grandchildren,
Darren and Randle Currie; several nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her husband, Ralph Currie, her parents, Thomas and
Eldee McBride; two brothers, Charles McBride; Howard McBride and
one sister Madeline Lockhart. Resting at The Scott Funeral Home,
815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB, with visiting on Friday from 2-4pm
and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 pm
from Scott Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Beverly Brazier will be
officiating, with interment in the United Church Cemetery,
McKenzie Corner. If desired donations may be made to Women' s

CYR, MARGARET HELEN -
Passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at The Carleton
Memorial Hospital, she was 74. Margaret H. (Jenkins) Cyr was born
in Richmond Corner, N.B. on Sept. 1, 1928 to the late Frank and Alice (Lagassey)
Jenkins.
She is survived by sisters, Annie Gervais (Sylvio), Richmond
Corner, N.B., Gladys Williams, Upper Woostock, N.B., Jo-Anne
Williams (Joseph), Richmond Corner, N.B., Pauline McLean, Oshawa,
Ontario, Frankie Thornton (Jim), Illinois, USA; Brothers Albert
Jenkins (Patricia), Oshawa, Ontario, Almond Jenkins (Jean),
Oshawa, Ontario as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial
service will be held from St. Gertrude\rquote s Catholic Church
in Woodstock on Monday, November 25th, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with
Father Samuel Diotte officiating. Interment will take place in
the Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock, N.B. Carleton Funeral Home has
