Died at home of his son in Woodstock, 24 Oct. 1879, age 89 per Anglican, page 74, service by Thomas Neales, Rector of Woodstock (does not say where buried & have been unable to find tombstone or cemetery record for him or wife, Mary.) In 1851 census of Carleton County, New Brunswick states David came from Ireland in 1819, with Mary. He settled in Watson Settlement, Carleton County. It is believed that he had a brother who was in America during the War of 1812. In January, 1977, Etta found papers in Woodstock Library which show Tax Assessment 4 February 1843: FAULKNER David $40., FAULKNER William $25. their assessment 1842 was FAULKNER David $40., FAULKNER William $45. #122 Nov. 1837 David Faulkner, Psh Wakefield, held mortgage #1040 on land, Psh. Clarence Faulkner (Faulkner Lineage #2) said that his ancestors came from Parish Raphoe, Donegal County, Ireland. Did our ancestor, David, come from Donegal also? Through Bill Ives of Florida, I learn Mary's maiden name was ROGERS, which explains why land was being exchanged between the Faulkners & Rogers. Crader, P O Box 327, Thornville, OH 43076 I'm researching the line of brothers William, Edward, & James? Faulkner who came from Ireland ca. 1720-40 to the Boston, Mass. area. Also the line of Robert Faulkner, b 1733 supposedly in Medford, Mass. & is said he was an adopted son of Edward above. Robert & wife Hannah went to Colchester County., Nova Scotia ab. 1762 with a group of New England settlers. He died there ab. 1813. Also James Faulkner went to Nova Scotia with him (relation unknown) possibly uncle or brother. Robert & James had several children & prob. many descendants in nearby areas of Canada. 20 March 1989 letter from: Yvonna E. Brewer, 984 W. All of his children by Nancy were born there between 1879 & 1894. It is said that he gave a portion of land for a church & cemetery. They are listed as Baptist on the census. The church is no longer there, but members of the family are said to be buried in the cemetery. If this is true I believe his first wife, Martha Jane, Chester Tiny, possibly Henry, & William are buried there. William died 29 April 1894, purportedly of pnumonia. * The story of Nancy McAdam Faulkner Laskey is tragic & may even prove to be unpleasant. She was 15 when she married William. He was 38, a difference of 23 years. That may not be unusual for the times but it is a considerable difference. William's oldest son, also named William was 12 at the time. On the 1891 census Nancy is 29, William the son 27, Almon 21 & Freman 19. Nancy was 4 months pregnant with Sarah when William died. I have no idea if William's first family were still a part of the household when he died. When Sarah was still a babe in arms, probably Feb. or March of 1895, the farm house burned to the ground. Nancy saved the children & a sewing machine; the rest was lost. Myrtle told the story of walking in the cold winter night to the home of neighbours. I have no idea what happened to William's estate, the farm, or his first family. Page 8: There is considerable evidence to support that Nancy's children were "farmed out". *"HISTORY OF CANTERBURY" in Bugle 18 Aug 2001:
"New Year"s Day in 1862, troops of the 62nd Regiment had set out on boat for St. Andrews, along with English reinforcements. They were to rest for a few days during their journey in Howard Settlement, now known as Canterbury. The village was named after Fiscount Canterbury,an English governor. By 1878, 41 buildings stood in Canterbury..... The first store in Canterbury was owned by Jemima Anderson. It sat at the top a hill & thus originated the name "Jemima Hill". Henry carr owned a general store where H. A. Price once did years before. The building was sold a few times in the years that followed, & it still remains today, now the local hardware store. Another general store was owned by Thomas Falconer on the corner of the old E. Lundon Estate, but it has since been destroyed by fire. Where the Irving now stands, the Cunningham Bros. Garage could once be found. Before that, James Gould, Solomon Gould's son, owned a grocery store in the same spot... There was a major fire that wiped out at least 3 important buildings in June of 1892. Everything from the train tracks to J. H. Carr & Son;s store went up in flames. Miss London's store & Mr. Falconer's store were included in the loss...." They were Loyalists. My grandmother was born in Saint John New Brunswick in 1883 (although we have been unable to locate a birth record of this). Her parents had already migrated back to Mass at the time of her birth but they returned to Saint John for her birth. The grandparents were living in Saint John at this time. The family probably belonged to the Methodist church. If not, then it would have been the Church of England. The names I know of these Faulkners are: My grandmother: Effie Hope Faulkner; her parents: Ada Jane Faulkner & Frank Alden Faulkner; grandparents: George J. Faulkner & Elizabeth Cunningham. She married Thomas Nodden, after 1926 (?),in Woodstock New Brunswick. Nodden spelled with an "e" in write-up in Newspaper Thomas NODDEN's first wife, Minnie May, died 19 Dec. 1926. Lil & Tom lived on Richmond Street, Woodstock New Brunswick in same house Herb & Vera Faulkner rented from Harry Faulkner in 1940's. Thomas H. Nodden became only the second resident of Woodstock to serve the town as mayor in non-consecutive terms, unfortunately he also became the second mayor to succumb to death while in office. Nodden began his service to the municipality as a councillor. Following several terms at the council table, he chose to compete for the mayoral seat, which he won in 1919. His first successful term began with a 211-178 election win over John S. Leighton. Nodden was re-elected to office in 1920. It was not until 1933, at the age of 72, that Nodden was elected for a third term in the mayor's office. In the seventh month of his one-year term, the mayor died, on Aug. 7, 1933. He had been ill for only a few days, previous to which he had been attending to his business and civic duties as usual. He was taken seriously ill about ten days before his death, his condition quickly became critical. Nodden was for many years a well known figure in and about Woodstock. He was born in Bellville, and spent most of his life in the vicinity. For several years he farmed at Nortondale, and then spent a few years in the western United States. During his residence in Woodstock, he was engaged as a produce store keeper and potato shipping business. Woodstock citizens of all walks of life turned out en masse to pay their last respects to the memory of Thomas Nodden. Following a simple service, the body of the late mayor was taken to the Methodist cemetery for interment, followed by one of the longest processions seen in this vicinity for many years. The Knights of Pythias, of which Nodden was a member and past chancellr commander, were in charge. Besides the Pythians, groups participating included the firemen, police, other civic employees, The Carleton Light Infantry, and the C.L.I. band. Fellow members of the council were pallbearers. In 1983 there is still a trust fund in name Lillian R. Noddin at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Woodstock, New Brunswick. See "Alice"- her mother Jane deeded property to Alice & Lillian R. Faulkner on 20 April 1916, Lower Main Street, Woodstock. When did Lillian dispose of her share of this house? In 1927 Albion R. Foster, trustee, Town of Woodstock, grantor to Lillian R. Sophia Boulier-Faulkner & grandson Gerald Hanlin
Not sure if she was born in Tobique; Herb thinks she was from up that way. According to her son, Bob, Sophia was a good cook, a good worker, & a good spender. She was of Roman Catholic faith but turned Anglican with her husband. The story goes that when no further children were produced after Pikie, the priest came to her house & told her to have more children. She resented this & ceased attending the Roman Catholic Church. Her family say that Sophie was a very generous neighbour. This is attested to also by the Sercerchi family, who say that she helped them many times.
