East Quoddy Lighthouse

The light house was established on the island in around 1829, and is one of the oldest lighthouses in NB. The beacon is visible for 13 miles, and located 64 feet above high water level. prior to becoming automated it was a diaphone with blast 5 seconds interval, 15 seconds. It is located at the Northern tip of Campobello on a small island. It is accessable at low tide by walking across the sandbar. Over the years a number of persons have become trapped on the island due to the quickly rising tides in the area and have to be rescued by local fishermen. Submitted by Judy Milne Added 15/8/2000
