Dressing Fish

Dressing Fish

This photo, taken at Campobello shows James Brown, Dr. John Manning, Ollie Brown, Mr. Ayres of Baltimore and Emmerson Brown "dressing Cod" around the year 1910. The island's first fishing weir (pronounced "ware") was built in 1840 to trap herring. Over the years hand-lining and trawl fishing provided many Campobello natives with a living. Also the manufacturing of wooden boxes for shipping fish became large industry. Photo published in the Saint John Telegraph Journal January 26, 2002. Submitted by Karen Small Added February 15, 2002
