Curry's Cove Graveyard

The following photos' were taken by Robert Hooper in the fall of 1999. They were provided to the site by Rod Fleck. Thanks to both gentlemen ... Robert for making us aware of this small overgrown graveyard, and taking the pictures and Rod for the copies of the photos.

This very old cemetery that was located on "Cook's Point" formally called "Windmill Point" on a lot of the old maps. This graveyard was at one time known as "Cook's Cemetery". The stones are located about 200 feet from the bank and approximately half way between the road at Tinker Hill and the breakwater, located in the same cove. In the fall of 1999 there were only 3 stones remaining. It has been told by some of the older island residents that the cemetery was a fairly large area in it's time, however it has been neglected and almost forgotten over time. It's very grown up and difficult to access. The information on the stones is listed below. A number of years ago a local man, now deceased, used some of the stones for a walkway in his yard. The locals were very upset but they were not returned. Added 15/3/2001
