1767 Acres of Indian Land Sold At Land Sale Monday

Price Averaged $9.45 per Acre - Another Sale Will Be Held Some Time During The Summer When A New List Will Be Offered For Sale

Eight out of nine bids were accepted at the sale of Standing Rock reservation Indian land held at Fort Yates Monday. A total of 1767 acres were sold the average price paid being $9.45 per acre. On account of the inclement weather this past week the sale was not as large as expected. Another factor is the fact that this land had been advertised a number of times before, most of it having been listed in 1915. But considering [ ] conditions the result is very satisfactory and shows that there is a demand for land, especially the [ ] ity that is fit for farming [ ] cessful bidders at this sale can [ ] on making initial payment [mode on] the land and begin farming it at once without waiting for the sale to be approved. In case the sale should be rejected later, a lease fee will be charged for the land. The amount of the lease fee will probably be fixed at 50 cents per acre where the land is used for farming purposes.

Another sale will be held some time during the summer. A new list of land that has not been up for sale before will be advertised. The complete list will be published in the Pioneer.
