INDIANS CAN BORROW OF U.S.

Those With Land Can Secure Up to $600.00 in Monthly Payments

Banks are on hand at the Standing Rock agency for pension applications for old and feeble Indians who have trust property. Those whom have can through the government make a loan up to $600 without interest which money will be reimbursable to the government upon sale of the land. Congress has appointed $175,000 for this purpose and Indians older than 60 or 65 years of age will be considered for these funds and they will be given them at the rate of $20 or $25 per month. There are probably forty or fifty Indians upon the reservation that will benefit this fund and secure some needed resources at times when they need it and it is felt that several thousand dollars will be distributed throughout the Standing Rock reservation from this fund. It is a source of help to Indians who need it which will be of much benefit to them during their life and no contribution is asked by the government along interest charges. Many of the older Indians have considerable property in lands and right now when land is a drudge on the market this fund will be of real benefit to them.

Supt. E. D. Mossman hopes that many of the older Indians upon the reservation in need will take advantage of this opportunity to secure much needed necessary funds to sustain their immediate needs in cases where they have an excess of land or are financially in distress and must depend upon the charity of the government for a livelihood.
