Flour For Distribution Among Indians Arrives
Flour For Issue Among Standing Rock Indians Delayed in Transit Arrives, Now Being Distributed
Two carloads of flour for issue to the Indians of the Agency district arrived last week at Cannonball, and was hauled to Fort Yates the first of the week. The flour will be distributed in 100 pound lots. It is understood that the flour for the other districts, which was delayed in shipping, has also been received and is being issued.
The Standing Rock Indians now have ample provisions to carry them through the rest of the winter and spring, and any suffering that might have been caused on account of the short crop last year has been forestalled by the timely action taken at the council in December, when the Indians through their delegates decided to purchase from the tribal funds for equal distribution provisions to carry them through until next season.
Each individual member of the tribe whose name appeared on the tribal roll June 30, 1916, receives the following supplies: 100 pounds flour; 25 pounds bacon; 5 pounds coffee; 2 pounds baking powder. These provisions except some of the flour, was received and distributed several weeks ago.
Many of the large families will receive enough flour to last them for
a year or more as the amounts above are issued to adults and children alike.
