(I) Robert Randolph Henry was born April 26, 1846, in Virginia. He was educated in the University of Virginia, and ran away from school to join the Confederate army during the civil war, at the age of sixteen. He lived for many years at Chester, South Carolina. During the civil war he rose to be adjutant to General William Mahone.

He is practicing law at Tazewell Court House, Virginia. He married Lucy Strother Ashby, of Culpeper Court House, Virginia, a first cousin of General Turner Ashby, of the Confederate service.
