Indian & Rev War 1774-1781. POW in Montreal, captured at Ruddle's Sta, Licking River. James escaped and made his way on foot to a settlement in northern New York and eventually to his home in Chesterfield. He brecame a surveyor for Daniel Boone and located large tracts of land in Bourbon and harrison Counties between the Licking and the Kentucky Rivers. He became one of the largest early landholdeers in the state and his heirs received about 10,000 acres for his Rev War services.


James rec'd land in Charlotte Co. VA in his father's will and is listed in the 1800 tax lists there.
