"I have since researched Chief Glass, and located the following information. As I told you, the term "glass" in Cherokee is "adaketi" His Cherokee name was Tauqueto, which no apparent meaning has been located. He was THOMAS GLASS as found on a letter by him and Richard Justice: "Richard Justice and Thomas Glass to Governor Blount, Lookout Mountain, 5 March 1792," in American State Papers, Volume 4, (Washington, D.C.: Gales and Seaton, 1832), 263-264. The letter includes many mentions of him as "Glass," while it is signed by Thomas Glass. I would assume he was a halfbreed and as there was people by the name of Glass affiliated with the Cherokees, his parents should be easily located. For my benefit and yours I intend to discover these facts, though I would suggest looking for yourself to verify what I have found. There are several mentions of him in the ASP, and it might help finding his lineage. Also listed are his part in the Collinsworth family slaying. Of course, this family was living on stolen land, and Chief Glass only was protecting lands illegally claimed by encroachers of sort. I will send more when found. If you want more info, please write or leave a message. Yanusdi

GLASS (Cherokee name- Adaketi= Glass) Lived at Lookout Mountain for a period, and served as a Lieutenant under Dragging Canoe. Was known as a citizen of the Chickamauga towns just after 1777, but later migrated to the West. Also known as Thomas Glass, which implies he may have been a half-breed.

THIS TEXT will be found in Brent A. Cox, Heart of the Eagle: Dragging Canoe and the Emergence of the Chickamauga Confederacy, with an introduction by Charles W. Crawford (Milan, TN.: Chenanee Ridge Publishing, 1996), 235. This text is currently being considered by a press, so the final information will eventually change."
