"Possible scenarios: Robert Bishop could be a brother to
Elizabeth, wife of John Gregory, Sr. If that were the case, one
would think that he would have left his land by Will to his
sister and other siblings (if any), not to his nephew, John
Gregory, Jr. A more tenable explanation is that Elizabeth was
the widow of Cyprian Bishop and mother of Robert Bishop. She
then remarried John Gregory, Sr. Robert Bishop may have finished
growing up to adulthood in the home of John Gregory, Sr., and
his mother, Elizabeth. Robert Bishop died a young unmarried
adult, and left his 480 acres by Will to his stepbrother, John
Gregory, Jr. In this later scenario, Elizabeth would not be the
mother of John Gregory, Jr. or Mary Gregory or the other known
children of John Gregory, Sr. Also, in the later scenario, the
allegation that Mary Gregory, wife of James Taylor (d. 1698) had
a middle name “Bishop” goes out the window. This allegation
never seemed right to me in any event because middle names were
rare in the 17th century, and even more rare with women than
with men."

Mary Gregory's mother is Elizabeth. I doubt her maiden name was
Bishop. I think she may have been previously married to a Mr.
Bishop and she had a son, Robert Bishop, by her first husband.
The legend says that the Robert Bishop who died in 1678, willing
some real property to John Gregory, Jr., Mary Gregory's brother.
Mary Gregory's mother was Elizabeth but her maiden was NOT
Bishop. She was married to John Bishop . John Bishop and
Elizabeth had son name Robert Bishop and a daughter. The
daughter COULD HAVE BEEN NAMED Mary Bishop. This where the
mix-up could have take place. I have not idea when John Bishop
died.
Elizabeth's father possibly Edward? Bishop Birth: in of Virginia
Colony 1607, 1611;
Marriage 1 Spouse Unknown; this info from World Connect tree,

AUG 1900 in Wetumpka, Elmore Co., AL Death: WFT Est. 1901-1990
possibly this one m. Higginbotham, but. spouse is Alice Thomas
Married: 9 JUL 1932.
