aka: David I, King of Scotland (1124-1153), Earl of Huntingdon. United Alba with Strathclyde. Earl of Northampton. Popularly reputed as a Saint, His feast day is 24th May.

"Ancestors of Phillippa of Hainault"
"Burkes Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage Baronetage and Knightage" One Hundred and Fifth Edition
"David I, who succeeded in 1124, extended the work of his mother into the politcal orgaization of the kingdom............... David I admired this system to the extent of importing it into his own kingdom, which he effected partly by transporting Norman and Breton barons and knights as the feudal superiors of existing small landowners (the fortunes of the great families of Bruce and Stewart were founded by this means) and partly by converting the Celtic aristocracy of 'Mormaers' and 'Toiseachs' into Earls and Barons. The process was assisted by his endeavour to create a universal system of law.

David I, likewise introduced into Scotland the great offices common to the courts of Europe; Constable, Chamberlain, Steward and Marischal. He founded the first Royal Burgs, towns which were granted the privilege of foreign trade in return for dues paid directly to the King. He imported European monasticism, and established Cistercians at Melrose,...................... "The Stewart Kingdom of Scotland 1371-1603"; Caroline Bingham; St.Martin's Press, NY; pg 6, 7."

David I "the Saint", King of SCOTLAND.

THE SCOTCH-IRISH OR THE SCOT IN NORTH BRITAIN, NORTH IRELAND, AND NORTH AMERICA
CHAPTER XX FROM MALCOLM CANMORE TO KING DAVID
"The crown then passed by inheritance to David, the youngest son of Malcolm Canmore. He had spent the early years of his life at the court of the English king, and in England married Matilda, daughter of Waltheof (son of Siward), Earl of Northumberland and of Huntingdon. David afterwards succeeded to the earldom of Huntingdon."

Night coming on, prevented our meeting them; and next day, being rainy, made it difficult to follow their tracks. As they were on their return, Captain Hickenbotham marched to join captain Ingles down New River, etc." The letter does not state which Higgenbotham he is referring to.
