"Henry Tandy, Jr. was, according to his deposition, "17 years or
thereabouts," when he witnessed the will of Lawrence Washington
(brother of the grandfather of George Washington) in 1677. He
apparently married Priscilla Watson, relict of John Watson,
according
to an entry in Old Rappahannock Co., Va. Order Book which
states, "Reference is granted between Capt. George Purvis,
plaintiff, and Mr.Henry Tandy as marrying the relict of John
Watson, defendant, till the said Capt. Purvis next arrival into
this colony." Priscilla must have
been six or seven years senior to Henry Tandy since her son,
John, was born in 1671 according to his deposition on 10 Jan
1694 in court.
On 11 Nov 1702, Henry Tandy is apparently living in King and
Queen county because an Essex county deed refers to him as
"Henry Tandy of the parish of Stratton Major in the county of
King and Queen." He died intestate within a year because on 11
Oct 1703, his sister, Martha
Parker, and her husband, John Parker, petition for
administration of the estate of Henry Tandy.
The reason for Henry's move into King and Queen county is not
revealed in the Essex records. The names of his children are
engulfed in the oblivion of the lost King and Queen records, but
two Tandys who appear later seem to be his sons. There is some
disagreement among genealogists as to the children of Henry
Tandy, but John and Roger are generally accepted by all. Other
children sometimes listed include a John Tandy and a Martha
Tandy."
4. The inventory of his estate in Essex county, VA listed only a
few head of cattle and other small items. (Essex county Deed
Book 12:98).
5. Henry Tandy was born in that part of Rappahannock that became
Essex county in 1692.
