Mary was a Campbell of the line of the Duke of Argyll.
[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #4673, Date of Import: Sep 4, 1999]

The Campbells apparently were among the Scot Presbyterians brought over to Ulster, Ireland from 1616 to 1620. The records show that 40,000 Scotsmen came over at that time. James IV of Scotland (James I of England) tried to solve both the Scot problem and the Irish problem in this way. The Campbell clan was in disgrace in Scotland because of the massacre of the McDonalds by them at Glencoe.

ID Number: I18869

  • OCCUPATION: Pres. Of James Taylor & Son Bank
  • RESIDENCE: Newport, Campbell Co. KY

Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Campbell Co. KY. JOHN B. TAYLOR was born in Newport, Ky., in 1837, and is the sixth in a family of eight children born to Col. James and Susan (Barry) Taylor. Col. James Taylor was a son of Gen. James Taylor, a native of Caroline County, Va., who was born in 1769, and was a distinguished soldier and statesman. He immigrated to Kentucky in 1792, and was the owner of large landed estates where the city of Newport now stands. He was, under Jackson, paymaster-general in the war of 1812, and was also the first clerk in Campbell County.

Col. James Taylor, the father of our subject, was born August 9, 1802; was the executor and manager of his father's estate, and was president of the Northern National Bank for twenty-five years. He was a prominent citizen in Newport, and died March 29, 1883. Mrs. Susan (Barry) Taylor was a daughter of William T. Barry of Lexington, Ky., who was postmaster-general under Gen. Jackson.
He was a member of Congress, Unites States Senator, and held the office of circuit judge for many years, and was minister to Spain when he died. He was an Episcopalian in religion, and his daughter, Susan Barry Taylor, was a member of the same church. She was born September 27, 1807, and died December 8, 1881.

John B. Taylor was president of the bank of James Taylor & Son from 1867 to 1882. In 1862 he married Miss Bettie Washington, daughter of Capt. John Thornton Washington, and great-grandniece of Gen. George Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are members of the Episcopal Church.
